3 months ago, I started weight training for the first time using a push/pull/legs split, no days off. I loved it, I felt great. I used to take a cold shower afterwards and leave the gym feeling like a champ. However, after like 1 month, my body just told me "No". Is it good to workout when your sore does that mean you will get extra muscles like the muscle fibres are already weakened and broken down so if I do workout for the same muscle group during sore will I get more muscles because those muscle fibres are weak so if I hit them again they will easily be broken down so will it get give more muscle ? @@imperia6368 i have no idea about the second part. But to create soreness, what you should do is progressively overload everytime. Because if youre doing the same thing over and iver again your muscles wont see a difference and wont feel anything afterwards.
He really is telling the truth about making me sore as shit. I'm currently taking his Max Size program, on day 2 (btw there's only like 4 total exercises in a day in this program) and my first one was squats. @@imperia6368 I wonder that too🤔 but then sometimes I think it’s cuz I’ve worked a muscle in a different way, haven’t worked a muscle in a long time, or worked a new muscle.
I’ve just started working out for the first time in 10 years. I’m 30 . I’ve never been more sore in my life than the first few weeks of squatting. Oof. Now I’m chasing the soreness.
mpnl21 You need to let your muscle recover for more growth. So I wouldn’t recommend to workout the same muscle that’s swore. Workout other muscles while that recovers. Then workout that muscle while the others recover
Miguel mejia no, bottom line is if you’re sore after a workout you did it right and if you’re even more swore the next day then you know you definitely tore your muscle fibers. After that just let it recover and work on another part of your body that isn’t swore.
7 weeks ago I was 35, 6'4", approx 180lbs. Very skinny as I've been my whole life. Since 15 (20 years) I've struggled with chronic depression and chronic anxiety. For over a decade i gave up on myself and accepted it, accepted that this was as good as it was going to get for me which was horrible everyday. 6 weeks ago my ex gf asked me to accompany her to the gym and I declined at first but she talked me into going with her and staying for the hour or so. I've been in the gym every single day since that break through as I like to call it. I hit 200lbs for the first time in my life, I feel so good and so different physically/mentally/spiritually that I cannot describe it with the words I know. 7 weeks ago my depression was a 8/10-9/10 on a day to day basis. My anxiety levels were also a 8/10-9/10 daily, my self confidence was non existent and I had NO hope for any future. Today I ran a mile in just under 8min to warm-up, my ab workout started with 5 sets of 15 reps situps, then 4 sets of 15 reps leg raises, then 3 sets of 15 sitting twists with 20lbs added. Next I went to biceps and followed what I've learned on this page, then I worked out my back. Fitness and exercise is the most important part of my life right now, I'm focused on getting better and better and better
Never stop. And feed yourself to grow. Exercise, quitting smoking and following /learning your passions is they key to a happy life full of activity and prosperity.
Just from my own anecdotal experience, when I started increasing my protein intake with supplements the severity of muscle soreness reduced. So from this I can only say that soreness is only when the body hasn't got the nutrients/ rest to repair, opposed to not training hard enough. I'm building more size than I was previously without the soreness.
Same here. I train 3 days a week hardcore full body and I'm seeing amazing results. Little soreness. I think with proper sleep, nutriton, hydration, and supplementation can really help make a difference between being super sore or not.
nah not true, muscle soreness is your muscles being inflamed (sign of potential growth) against your nerves and small tears, you dont always feel this pain/soreness and you might feel it in like weakness/stiffness of the muscle.
I trained biceps hard for a month or 2 now, i decided to take 2 days off working out, after i measured my biceps they went from 14.5 inches to 15 inches with no pump.
“I promise you i’ll make you sore as shit.” lmao i couldn’t help but chuckle at that one. we love you jeff thanks for passing down all your fitness knowledge to us.
The crazy thing is we still do not know what actually gets sore. Is it the muscle, the fascia etc. Most have no nerve endings so the jury is still out.
I'm always sore the next few days after a workout. If I'm not then I know I only went through the motions and my workout was a waste of time as the muscles were more than capable of dealing with that workout. I'm glad I came across this video.
I found that every time i train my chest, the next day it is tender and hurts when I push with my hand on the muscles. I never had this issue before, partly because I was doing heavy lifting lowe rep. I switched to high rep low weight now after every training I get soreness. I take this as indication of good workout. Cheers.

Thanks for this Jeff. You have really opened my eye about my effort in the gym and at home. I notice if I take some time off I’ll be sore but eventually not get sore from workout. I’d say this is from cheating myself in the weight room and with my diet.
If I go a long time without lifting and then decide to get back into it for a while, I'm always ridiculously sore after the 1st workout. But on the next one I don't get nearly as sore. I feel I can get that soreness back if I just push it harder on the next workout. Mixing up volume and intensity from week to week I feel gives you the best of both worlds between strength and endurance.
Show us how to get sore. You are killing it brother!! I’ve lost 70lbs and am getting into cutting now. (Your) Videos are great for learning muscle health. Leon
I like the soreness too. especially when it starts to improve, stretching feels great. I have a question though. The title of the video claims it explains the soreness, but why does it take like 24 before you start to feel it? Is it the growth that causes the pain? And also, it only hurts when you use the muscle. If it would be the damage itself it should hurt all the time and there shouldn't be a delay.... So what is really causing the pain???
Peter Faber Maybe because the muscles are in shock, and it needs to pass before the pain comes in? Like when someone gets shot or badly injured? I dunno... good question, tho, but i dont think knowing the reason is important at all
Your muscles ache because when they are used, there will be Micro tears in it and when your body repair the muscle,it gets stronger but I still don't really know why it takes 24 to truly hurt
He always droops the knowledge on us. His advice for the gym can be applied to everything in life. Like " Stress stimulates growth"! I'm gonna carry that with my for now on. That should be on a t shirt .
I love when I'm so sore I could crawl out of the gym, and daydream about going back to the gym the next day for more. Also like how Jeff uses science to target muscle groups.
I like muscle soreness cuz it’s reassurance that you gave your all but I think I pulled something in my right arm and I can’t tell if I did or not. I worked out like 3-4 days ago and it’s just getting worse and my left arm is basically fine
If it’s getting worse, DO NOT keep working it. That means damage is not healing and you may have a mild tear/sprain. Rest a few days and see if it gets better. If not, see a doctor
The formula I know, and that I tell people, is that getting in shape is 10% exercise, 30% diet, and 60% sleep. Everyone I know who knows things about things has told me that's either dead on, or really close. What do you think?
Oh Jeff your workouts get me sore, but i'm in the best shape of my life and everyone stares at the gym at the woman with the biggest biceps thanks to you! 💪

@@imperia6368 no. Muscle soreness is an indication that you have trained more than enough. You don't have to be sore always. If you did a workout and become sore the next day , the next time you do the same workout don't go that hard . You can get gains without be sore. But you should train to failure. And sometimes you should workout hard enough to break plateaus and you can be sore. Doesn't mean you should be sore every day. I watched one of your videos for the first time only 2 days ago and I was immidiately hooked! You're a true pro.
Part of the charm and appeal of this channel and the videos are the random cuts, yet at the same time long truly well done takes, and unexpected little things like the shoulder sleeve and others in other videos

I got worked to the point where after my 100th squat, I racked the weight and couldn't keep myself off the ground. I mistakenly did this after physio the yesterday and now I can barely move. I'm not excited to see how I feel in the morning. Love your program, Jeff!
doing 100 of ANYTHING is a dumb idea
Dude, I stumbled onto your channel looking for motivation in losing the pounds I've picked up the last 10 years and how to get stronger and feel better while doing all that. I highly love your videos.
Some kind of weird red cloth on Jeff...
Thanks man, you made me feel good about feeling sore.
I'm so grateful for this channel, can't tell you how much I've learned
the only time muscle soreness isn't good is when it's your rectum
(standard no homo disclaimer)
When you can't handle that shit coming out anymore
I have tendon issues where some days they are so bad I literally can't move my arms and something like opening a door becomes a challenge but I'm still fighting for a healthy body gotta keep it up
That's why creatine is great, it gives you muscle and rectum soreness
Your heart is a muscle, don't want that sore
When you've been shitting so hard that it starts cramping...

@@imperia6368 I wonder that too🤔 but then sometimes I think it’s cuz I’ve worked a muscle in a different way, haven’t worked a muscle in a long time, or worked a new muscle.
@@youngchang3550 yes ,it happens ,like if you don't train a muscle for a long time and then u do it ,it takes you directly to muscle soreness
I’ve just started working out for the first time in 10 years. I’m 30 . I’ve never been more sore in my life than the first few weeks of squatting. Oof. Now I’m chasing the soreness.
YESSSS!!! A program that initiates soreness would be appreciated. Thanks.
Great topic but i feel like you missed the most important point of it. "Should you train while being sore?"
Good question, would love to see that topic
He has an older video on that question
mpnl21 You need to let your muscle recover for more growth. So I wouldn’t recommend to workout the same muscle that’s swore. Workout other muscles while that recovers. Then workout that muscle while the others recover
bottom line.. if you're sore after a work out, you did it wrong.
Miguel mejia no, bottom line is if you’re sore after a workout you did it right and if you’re even more swore the next day then you know you definitely tore your muscle fibers. After that just let it recover and work on another part of your body that isn’t swore.
I actually like the soreness I get from working out, usually more sore the 2nd day after working out hard.
Real talk. I expect the soreness immediately the next day but it just lingers and kicks in the 2nd day after training hard 😂💪🏾

Hey man. That’s awesome! Congrats on pushing yourself and feeling better about yourself! Keep going!
W gf bro
This channel is awesome. No BS, lots of facts and I trust this guy.
This is just bro science and is not true
nah not true, muscle soreness is your muscles being inflamed (sign of potential growth) against your nerves and small tears, you dont always feel this pain/soreness and you might feel it in like weakness/stiffness of the muscle.
I trained biceps hard for a month or 2 now, i decided to take 2 days off working out, after i measured my biceps they went from 14.5 inches to 15 inches with no pump.
This the only channel I trust about working out
“I promise you i’ll make you sore as shit.” lmao i couldn’t help but chuckle at that one. we love you jeff thanks for passing down all your fitness knowledge to us.
Cheers.
Those who disliked, could you explain muscle soreness the way you think he should've...

after doing some of your workouts tutorial, im glad youtube recommended this to me
If I go a long time without lifting and then decide to get back into it for a while, I'm always ridiculously sore after the 1st workout. But on the next one I don't get nearly as sore. I feel I can get that soreness back if I just push it harder on the next workout. Mixing up volume and intensity from week to week I feel gives you the best of both worlds between strength and endurance.
thats called "muscle confusion" workouts, this is the 1 basic format to bodybuilding
Jeff needs to go on Joe Rogan!

“I can’t walk you through your next 23 hours of your day”
Aw man... smh
I dunno... good question, tho, but i dont think knowing the reason is important at all
Its gotta be about sleeping I bet but I dont know
Your muscle starts to hurt when it has started the recovery process. That's why you dont feel it right after the workout but a 7-8 hrs sleep later.
@@fahimnabil9619 oohh, that makes sense
Your muscles ache because when they are used, there will be Micro tears in it and when your body repair the muscle,it gets stronger but I still don't really know why it takes 24 to truly hurt

A lot of respect for this individual.

The formula I know, and that I tell people, is that getting in shape is 10% exercise, 30% diet, and 60% sleep. Everyone I know who knows things about things has told me that's either dead on, or really close. What do you think?

@@imperia6368 no. Muscle soreness is an indication that you have trained more than enough. You don't have to be sore always. If you did a workout and become sore the next day , the next time you do the same workout don't go that hard . You can get gains without be sore. But you should train to failure. And sometimes you should workout hard enough to break plateaus and you can be sore. Doesn't mean you should be sore every day. And you should not work the sore muscle , because you won't have enough strength to perform well. Any more questions you can ask me. I'm happy to help
