- Is MAPPA’s Vinland Saga Season 2 too slow? Many people have criticized or say they hate Vinland Saga Season 2, Farmland Saga/Slave Arc and Thorfinn for being boring, having no action, having a slow pace, and more. But is it true? In this video I analyze Vinland Saga Season 2 and compare it to the manga to see if it really is too slow.

Do you guys think Vinland Saga Season 2 is too slow so far? Or is the hate overblown?
I haven't read the manga, I just wanna know the sick action is coming back lol. Does the show return to action like it was in season 1?
(Minor spoilers) I wouldn’t say to the same extent as Season 1, but there is some action.
@@Druong is the manga far past this farm arc? Is there more action in the future seasons of the show?
@Br8kz yea mostly in the Baltic sea war but that's pretty far away
@@Br8kzbruh💀. If u only care about action watch a shonan. Do u really need an action scene to be engaged with a story that’s exploring complex themes and characters
This season so far has been perfect for me. I've enjoyed every episode so much
Facts
How? I love season 1 but 2 has been dragging so hard, literally nothing is happening. I don't even mean just fights, I mean drama or story. It's literally all filler.
@@Hulk_Be_Smashin Character writing can carry a show for me way more than anything and Vinland Saga is a masterclass of writing. Thorfinn's character study of become a better person is so grounded and real you can't help but relate and no other anime that I know of is doing it like this
@@whyoowhy facts

This season has been extremely boring, right when I think it's going to get interesting it get twice as boring again.
It's so funny because you have a bunch of these fanboys calling everyone meat heads and claiming character development even tho most of the stuff that happened up until now could have Been put in to 4 EP and you would still have understood the context the tags says ACTION ADVENTURE not wheat and Wood chopping . It would be like if they made Goku go to therapy to learn to be a better dad and stretch it out between 24 episode .
Farmland saga IS too slow. they gotta slow it down because their fanbase arent smart and take a long time to process season 2 thinking its actually deep. why is the fanbase soo smooth brained?
That shit way to slow they could’ve made a movie that shit is slice of life farming
There’s no way they could fit 45 chapters into a 2-hour movie
@@Druong at the rate sason 2 went. it definitly can fit in a 2hr movie. soo much of it has been dragged out nonsense and a majority of scenes can be cut. just like how this anime is going to get cancelled at the rate its going. soo many fans have been put off by season 2
@@Druong lol they most definitely could of and just done s2 as s3 instead.
The farmland saga continues 😮💨
This pains me to say because I thought I could appreciate a slow burn but...
Wow, I have to reassess what I think of myself watching this season. It's not a bad season so far EXCEPT for the pacing being so painfully slow and now I feel like a filthy casual for truly having this opinion 🤦🏾♂️
Your not a casual, you just enjoy stories told at a reasonable pace. The entire season is designed for late pay-offs at the end of the season I think because of this the show will not last to a 3rd season
The pacing is fine to me. I think thorfinns character is just boring. Hes just copying his father and not learning from his fathers mistakes it seems like. Askeladd said Thors was naive and thorfinn emotional. I think it would of been better for Thorfinn to learn from it. I hope season 3 will be better.
I love the show and the manga. I know it can be frustrating to wait for new chapters/ episodes but that's how it is. Amazing work needs time.I also like to binge but I always wait until a bunch of chapters are out or the entire season (as you suggested at the end of the video. It's really the best solution to this)
Yeah that’s what I did with the manga after I caught up. Waited a good while for chapters to pile up before reading it again
I think people who watched season 1 also didn’t do it weekly. They heard hype and binged. It’s easier to get into when you smash a few eps. Waiting week to week bores a lot no matter what. For example one piece eps do about 2/3 a chapter. Now if you gave it in chapters a week at modern pacing which does more each ep or about 3x the Amout of story progress that readers do. It would be like watching the equivalent of 1/4 of a one piece chapter a week. Hype gone. Or an easier to understand thing. 5 chaps go into one bleachthousand year ep. So weekly readers are reading in one week about 4 min of an episode and getting hyped no. If a series makes every chapter hyped with big revelations then animated it will feel like a cluster fk. Ok main character in 4 min got powers. Now they beat the main boss in 10 more min. Now they got married cause people like hyped pacing.
Season 1 then 2 is like Game of Thrones (Good seasons 1-6) then House of the Dragon.
You can be the one who says it's a masterpiece,
or you can be the one who has the valid argument that this season is indeed bad.
If we start a show or a book, we see what it is about, and then we continue consuming it because we liked it.
S1 was full with interesting conflicts, characters, and battles. This is what people "signed up" for.
S2 is totally different, as it is an entirely different anime. So of course, most people will be disappointed after !18! episodes of slow-paced character development without any interesting conflicts.
A good author can indeed create such character development while having conflicts. It is not necessary to have a farming simulator slice of life arc with again !18! episodes.
We had conflicts in s2, yeah, but barely. Most of which were really not necessery or those were just very minor ones.
Snake vs Thorfinn, it really was just a few scenes them having an argument and a short exchange of fists.
The husband of the woman in the arc is meh. Nothing that drives the plot further. Make events that actually develop the story, not just one or two characters.
i am happy for those who like this season, but understand the valid critism of those who dont like it.
"valid" crticism, just dont ever watch this show again
@@slenderblakchannelDarkNess understood random guy on the internet who cant take the opinion of others how it seems.
yes, I arrived at the same conclusion as you did about the binging thing, I see on twitter many manga readers saying bad pace, bad adaptation ,etc but for sure is because they can't wait weekly releases
Important fact: it's the same staff from season 1
Season 2 episodes feel kinda slow to me but episode 7 8 really pick up the pace and i enjoy them a lot.
I don't mind a slow paced story but som (more like most) of the episodes in S2 are almost unbearable, and so slow that it just takes me out. At the end of an episode I shouldn't be going 'wtf that's it?' Next to nothing happened. It's not even the lack of fighting either, it's the lack of anything substantial in some eps. I'm on ep 18 at the moment. Feel like maybe 9 episodes worth of content. Def get dbz filler feelings, and that's not good
I think it would be so much better if they drastically upped the pace…3 chapters an episode, give us 9 episodes of whatever comes after this arc. Because the anime seems to be just moving at a snails pace. If everything is action a slower adaptation doesn’t seem that bad because a LOT is going on, whereas this arc because of the pace it’s mostly us just watching a buff normie be enthusiastic about farming and no one else because thorfin dead inside stops feeling like much of anything after ten episodes.
Exactly! I have no issues with the story but God dam it's slow, each episode feels like a drain with 0 pay-off at the ending of each episode. Like even the most recent episode welcome home I did not care for that blokes death it was drawn out way to long for me to care. If you want solely character devolpment over action biting scenes you need more content and pay-offs with the scenes. So far it does not feel like that at all, just because you can have 24 episodes doesn't mean you should make 24 episodes.
I guess I’m just a weird guy cause every Monday was something to look forward to cause I got to see what was going to happen on the farm. When Canute was on screen I had less interest then when the farm was on I was glued to the screen. When you’re so highly invested into the character I personally love the slow burn cause it’s more Vinland saga more of something I love
and here i am loving every episode so much
I came into VS knowing nothing about it, so for me certain expectations were set up in the first season that just didn’t carry over at all. I like the characters but tbh it feels like there are quite a lot of scenes that retread the same emotional ground over and over again. Would probably help if Netflix released all eps at once, but waiting a week for a snails pace of plot movement is frankly getting really frustrating. By now I’m getting the sense that the season will end as soon as something exciting actually happens - it’s just a weird pace for someone who hasn’t read the manga or isn’t already familiar with the arcs
On my opinion vinland saga anime only just mad because the first season make the fans think its a violent and gore anime like beserk with a little bit of character growth
Yeah a lot of people watched season 1 for the fights/war, but even the Prologue arc was much more than just battles.
@@Druong yeah but i think it just people thing it just war and little bit talking for the next war

As a manga reader there doing a pretty good job, although I think the Manga is still better, by episode 10 the pace should have already picked up, I'm excited.
What would you say the manga does better? I’ve heard arguments for both sides
@@Druong some stuff that was cut as well as the art obviously being better. In episode 5 they cut a pretty important line from the end monologue. I also felt like we cut back to Einar's family too much in episode 1 of this season, like I get he's thinking about them I don't need to see it five times. At the end of the day, I'm really here for the music and voice acting. I think episode 6 has been my favorite so far.
@@TylerClear Music and VA is definitely peak. I still listen to Season 1's OST very often.
ep9 was horrendously slow, I fell asleep a couple of times (for real)
@@MlGHTY1 yeah…
Season 1 was pure adrenaline binging experience,BUUUT farm simulator season 2 suuuuuuuuucks....🙄
The hate is most definitely overblown... I think the pacing is all very deliberate. It’s leading up to something and as someone pointed out in the comment section, it’s to build up investment to the characters. And I’d imagine recovering or coping with PTSD isn’t going to be quick or easy. That certainly translates with the pacing. It would be weird if Thorfinn just suddenly decided to not vengefully kill anymore without context leading up to that. Like I said, it’s deliberate because we need to understand how he ultimately comes to that conclusion.
We also need a change of tempo after all that fighting. We need to catch a breather and learn about these new characters they just introduced. I’m guessing since it’s a long manga series, they got a lot of time on their hands. And last, patience is a virtue.
Prologue was 1000 times better. S2 sucks so far and episode 9 was corny as fuck
@@loni1771 aww that’s too bad, because you just have a bad opinion lol.
@@WoWGirl6 does he tho? Many people agree with him. I get you like it but you can't ignore how many ppl don't. The manga even suffered during this arc and is only by chance it continued thanks to the efforts of the author who fought tooth and nail for it to even get it translated to English.
@@poekpally yes I honestly think it’s a bad opinion. A greater majority of people like it and less don’t like it. It’s on several lists for top anime of 2023. My issue with people who don’t like it, is that they don’t like it for the wrong reasons. It’d be like watching a horror movie and complaining that there isn’t enough drama. Or watching a drama and complaining there’s no action. Just because something isn’t what people envisioned or expected it to be doesn’t mean that it’s suddenly bad. Build up is as important as the delivery. Now if someone said they didn’t like it because they think they spent too much time on the build up then I’d think there’s something certainly valid there. Instead of 15 episodes on the farm cut it back to 8. Just throwing out numbers because I thought it was perfect lol.
@@WoWGirl6 how can you dislike a show for the wrong reasons? Like comparing s1 and s2 is a valid thing to do and the seasons are completely different(well aware this is on purpose but if you dont read the manga you wouldnt know). Nearly ever negative comment is that the show is slow paced and lacks action which is valid considering it does lack both of them. I get it the show turns into a journey about a man who struggles to live with his past self and to continue not killing in a world full of death. It's a Nobel tale btw the actually guy it's base off was never a pacifist and did not stop killing he just did not look for it. High ratings mean Jack shit actual viewer count does and profit made does. I'll be interested to see the numbers at the end of season but I have low expectations considering plenty of ppl have already dropped it. I hope it continues as I have seen multiple ppl passionate about it for various of reason but if it doesn't up the pace and engage a broader audience faster the show will suffer ultimately being cancled.
its a show that knows its story and characters very well and does an exceptional job at it, been loving it. and the action will be coming soon
It's peeing me off to be honest! I'm steadily waiting for thorin to come out of his metal state!! Still my favourite anime at the moment tho! London locked in!
Not to be rude but if you're waiting for old Thorfinn to come back it's not gonna happen
Too slow when there's only been 8 episode to come out for an anime season which will eventually have 26. People have been saying it's too slow since only the 4th episode came like Damm give it some time like einar and thorfinn gave those wheat some time to grow, it will eventually pick up like those retainers picked them from the root then you'll get your action or lack there of, which is not bad, most mature shows don't need action packed fights and hack and slash to make a compelling story.
I think it'll be 24 episodes but I totally get what you mean. I think some people got the wrong expectations from Season 1 or are watching Vinland Saga as if it's a battle shonen and are frustrating at the slow pacing for character development.
@Druong right some of the best shows in general have less action and it's telling since they don't need to rely on fight scenes to sell a show.
this season really sucks man every episode is so fucking boring 😔😔
@@simondelavega1938 it's not just action .. vinland saga lacks the dialogues and the progression of the story ...thorfinn's charecter is development is too slow , sometimes annoying to watch ... vinland saga S1 is a masterpiece of a story and the writing of the characters ... it's not only just action ... it's been 9 episode and they are still farming ..I don't hating the show but criticizing it ,I didn't read the manga , maybe it will back on track after few episodes but so far I get why people are saying it's slow ...also seinen doesn't only mean to be complex storyline , a kid show can also change your perspective in a mature way ... people are not saying it's slow because it hasn't seen any action , it actually has some issues

I'm in episode 11 and still find it slow... so bored.. a pity for a great season 1...
Seasons amazing! Seeing Thorfns evolution and struggles builds a deeper sense of investment. Much Respect Mappa
Bingo
If you are expecting more of Season 1's pacing, then yes. But if, for no reason, you aren't expecting that, then it's great. The problem is that, for any show to pull this kind of 180, no matter what anyone says, it is jarring for the fanbase. Imagine John Wick, then imagine if John Wick 2 was about him taking care of his new dog, trying his best to avoid being found out and him dealing with his emotions. Everyone who loved John Wick 1 would probably be really annoyed about John Wick 2. And a third movie probably wouldn't have happened. Both are good for completely different reasons.
This is more than slow. This is dull as all hell. There's tons of WAYYY better written shoes and manga and movies that have significantly better pacing, without any need for a bunch of flashy fighting or anything like that.
It's not JUST story either. There's barely any animation. It's dull to look at. They all move so rigidly and there's no action to break that up of any form. Doesn't have to be violence.
The manga went by way way faster. This is 10x longer than it needs to. It doesn't take as long to read a scene and move on in the manga. In the show that scene is dragged out significantly.
They could literally of done the first 9 episodes in 4, idk why everyone screaming character devolpment. I good story doesn't need the fist half hammering in the same point to have good character devolpment. We get it killing is bad, it's not like they havnt been saying that since the s1 ep1 oh wait they have.
@@poekpally exactly. And everyone defending it are absolutely 100 percent coping. No one in their right mind would possibly enjoy watching that.
This video is "well it gets good later so it's fine". Like no?? It getting good later doesn't make this any less bad. No fighting doesn't mean boring. There's a million shows without violence what so ever, and basically purely conversations, and they are wonderful and entertaining the entire way.
Set up does not mean dull and boring.
@@ImTheMan0fSteel so true, the show is sacrificing so much potential by dragging its feat. I would rate this so much more if it was so God slow.
I love the season so far. I admit from season 1 I miss the political intrigue a lot more than battles and extended fight scenes. I enjoy the show for its characters.
i mean season 1 story was basically just what actually happened in real life the action was the main part of the show it like assassins creed story where thorfinn is the asssssin set in real world events now it’s just boring
As an anime-only, I am super glad that Vinland Saga is taking its time to flesh itself out.
Many times, I see shows ruined because they rush things, The Owl House's final season being the perfect example.
Even the though the plan was supposed to be 20 episodes, it got cut to 3 (I will never forgive Disney).
As a result, character development was shortened, plotpoints that made no sense, and good moments could've been better.
Even though I still like that shows's 3rd season, It would've been way better if Disney just let The Owl House's staff cook.
the owl house is sooo bad. even pickle and peanut solos the mid house. also disney cancelled it because it doesn't get good ratings on disney plus even less than their new shows like peakster and peaktel, and peak girl and peak dinosaur
I gotta say bro honestly this ani.e keept me alive my life has been so boring and i been so so alone that good anime have been the top of my life i know its pathetic but i am tryi g i am working out and working at a fucking starbucks and i gotta say this anime motivated me to be more but not only that be better
Look, is not about the lack of action. Most of us can enjoy any kind of story as long as it good. With that said SEAON 2 TAKES AROUND 5 SECONS PER SHOT OF GRASS AND SKY. Like what the fuck, you could condense 3 chapters into one with no problem, they just drag to much
Overall I enjoyed the season, but episodes 20-23 were painful to get through.
5, 6, and 7 are pretty well paced IMO two to three chapters per episode is reasonable. I do think as we progress we will get episodes that adapt 3 to 4 chapters. The preview for 8 leads me to believe they'll keep up this pace for the most part.
ong the show is just getting started its slower (in comparison to other shows) but its COOKING
HEAVY
Thanks for the breakdown
THE NUMBERS MASON WHAT DO THEY MEAN?
People still be defending this, REMEMBER they're realeasing this WEEKLY, 1 EPISODE PER WEEK so of course people gonna get bored!

Y'all call season 2 a master piece, but truly it's kinda suck and lame. Almost all episodes have talk no jutsu and it really bothers me that thorfinn intended to have no enemies, but he didn't avenge Arnhied death, and Ketil's living the life, and it's disturbing I'm so disappointed.

Season 2 was trash. Season 1 wasn't that good either. Overhyped imo
I loved s1 and the music. Didn’t expect them to ruin the main character and turn the story into a “violence no good” bullcrap
The thing is when a show is beloved by a fan base that’s small. They tend to get hit exactly with what they were looking for thematically. To them it’s near perfect for all. Heck it could be for them. But for others it doesn’t hit the same. It’s still entertaining and about the score it has on mal 8 or so. 8 is great when most barely crack 9. So it’s really out of 9. But fans believe it deserves so much more so they inflate scores and outsiders come in thinking the new scale is anything 8 is ok. Gotta be 8.5, 8.7, etc. When you see 8.9 on mal you start thinking it will change your life with deep story or the most amazing plot or characters and setting plus the annoying people that say overrated if not unique and mind blowingly never done before. In truth it doesn’t need all that. It’s a good show but calling it better than all etc is unnecessary. We can like more than one show the same amount for different reasons. If someone likes the philosophy in Naruto doesn’t make hunter x hunter worst and vise versa. Hype is annoying cause it’s double edged. You need it and many get overlooked without it, but hen you have it most can’t live up to it since we all have a nostalgic fave and a new show with 3 eps can’t beat it. (3 ep rule when people drop)
Season 1 was great askeladd, Canute, drunk, priest, thorfin on demon time, now it's just slaves, slaves ans more slaves
season 1 was GOOD but season 2 is UTTER TRASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
