ya, but at least he's humble enough to answer. My guitar teacher met the guy 3 times and he said he's an awesome, down to earth guy who is exactly what you'd hope your guitar idol would be
It's amazing no matter what Eric plays through it still sounds like Eric. I met Eric after a show in El Paso, Tx and he treats all his fans like old friends. Super cool and down to earth guy. He autographed my Keely modified Tube Screamer...
Eric Johnson is an artist who has stayed true to himself and his music...he sets the bar high in terms of his mastery of the guitar and always seems to reinvent himself with every new album! One of my favorite musicians to listen to the sonic textures he weaves are amazingly beautiful! A glimpse if how humble this world renowned musician is... I met him many years ago in Austin before he released Ah Via Musicom, his masterpiece and he was the nicest guy! Great video!
Thats the reason I love Eric Johnson. At 21:00 he starts talking about how to get over a slow period in your playing, and he says never get lazy. Even after years, he put out material that was new and original that no one sees coming. And he does crazy covers. Good job Eric
I just discovered this today and I can't thank you enough for posting this! I learned Eric was in town a week after it happened. It was even worse to hear that he'd had this Q & A. Thanks to you, I was able to now hear it. And I wasn't disappointed! Brilliant job! :)
Such a sweet humble guy, really great and genuine..such a talent. I was watching him play with Carole King and her band. He Couldnt have been more than 19… a teenager and he was smoking all the older players more than twice his age…classic.
I’m so happy I found this video oml- y’know that little girl in the pink jumpsuit? That’s me lol. My dad used to be the store manager (he’s the guy that walked back and forth in the black shirt and shorts) and my little brother was in the blue shirt! Dang I miss that store it was like a second home
Gotta love Eric Johnson. Such a down to earth, articulately well spoken, cerebral human being. No wonder why he’s such an intelligent and innovative musician.
Certainly one of the best guitarists that has ever walked the planet. But he also has to be one of the nicest aswell. His clean Strat tone and chord voicings are stuff of legends...
Every musician should be just like Eric. Usually the shit happens when bands get money, fame and thatkinda stuff. Then they forgot who raised them on top, Fans, who bought their music! I love to see how Eric is having a nice regular chat with regular fans like just normal guy : P I bet Axl Rose cant do that..
Very rare musician. A really nice guy and talented at the same time. Also btw, how many times do you think EJ has answered the question, "When did you start playing?". My guess is at least 2,312 times.
Great question about Good to Me.. I so TOTALLY dig the more 'Rocked Out" live versions more... Awesome video, thanks so much for recording the entire interview. -Z
Y’all are making the me feel bad. Eric was super chill and really really nice, I know the questions were bad but he didn’t seem to mind- actual musicians from Pittsburgh are usually super nice
would be an outstanding learning experience for guitarist of eric would do more of these sessions. he's loaded with knowledge & interesting views. aside from his talents, he's got an extremely pleasant & funny personality. one of the greatest musciains of our time.
Really?!?!?! REALLY??!?!?!?! You can ask EJ any question, and you don't think to ask, "Can you walk us through how you build your tone?" "Can you play some straight chords without variations so we can hear what the rest of us might sound like playing with a tone like that?"
ThatVaiGuy I'm building a pedalboard with the same exact pedals, I would have asked about a series hookup for us modest's? I'd especially ask about the whole tube driver after the echoplex setup deal. I think that Q&A would have gone better here in NYC, lol!
This Is a Pretty Good Q & A Session , Can Of Bad Audio , But All and All Really Informative. E J ' s The Most Humble Down To Earth Guy , But Is Coming Up On Legend Sta-us. THks For The Upload : ) 4444jcm
hah, yeah but notice how he stopped immediately after Eric started playing! at least he had (not much) but SOME sense... Be it a big stage, or a little one at guitar center... who could follow Eric?
It's almost as if these people arn't aware one of the most influential guitarists of a generation is sitting before them totally down to talk about anything. Questions just seemed sort of rudely asked, not really thought out to well, the fact someone is noodling on a guitar in the background is rediculous, Eric Johnson is in the room, like shit you'll learn more from listening to his words than you ever will fucking around on a guitar.
eric fav get the fender head i designed with sarah and the new guitars we designed and get the talkie show night thing done over need month on thing with the fractal and other boxes and simple roll track
I hear what you're saying but (no disrespect intended) it seems to bother you more than it did him. He isn't a deity, he's an incredible guitarist. He seemed to be genuinely baffled as to why the battery myth got so completely misinterpreted. He appeared to take all the distractions in stride as well. I was amazed how he seemed interested in nearly every question no matter how mundane and predictable. Pretty impressive.
Eric Johnson is the Bob Ross of the guitar world.
So nice to see someone so talented be such a nice, down to earth guy. No ego, no pretense. The world is a better place with EJ in it.
He's a Texan.

Eric is using a Mad Professor Golden Cello in this video!! Sounds AMAZING!!!

Thats awesome!
EJ has to be the nicest guy in the music business bar none! I have 2 of his amazing Stratocasters!
Doyou have his '54? I can't understand what he says about the pickguard?
my favorite musician of all time in my hometown...the day after I moved away. ...poetically fitting for how the next couple years played out. fuck.
One of the kindest people in the world.
You feel like saying to that guy strumming chords in the background "you do realize that's Eric Johnson, right?"
His playing is Magical. Period.
Loved the bit (no pun intended) about analog v digital, and his keen interest in DSD in particular.
Yes that was mine too.

Dude is a Class Act.
what a great guy
I'm an Atheist... But if ever there was a God....... Eric Johnson would be it!
Talented, powerful, and amazingly humble.
Nice of him to mention Joe Robinson as an up and comer. Joe is phenomenal and I'm sure he will take off once he finds his niche.
bro this is literally my local guitar center, god damn i wish i knew he was coming by in 2012!

what a stupid question about the fast part in cliffs of dover, eric is a fuckin genious man !! he can play that song at max speed
I can’t believe I have been in the same store as the master! I wish I could have been there just sit in awe of this humble guitar virtuoso
Here's to hoping I look this good when I'm 60; if at that point I had even half his chops, that'd be cool too.
I wish I was there to ask questions
Great interview..... Thanks for posting.
Such a cool down to earth guy and a great guitarist.
I want more

damn I've been looking for this workshop for days and wouldn't find it. Dude, finally!
haha I have this fantasy that at 22:14 he just turns and hulks-out, screaming, "I'm ERIC F****** JOHNSON!"
Eric is God!
un maestro el unico , ERIC

His dad died in like 2004 so that's really awkward.
Peter Sorensen Guitar how do you know?

His voice is great
You can definitly tell his sound emits from his fingers and technique, not all from the equipment.
I wonder what effects unit that was that he plugged into right there in the store...Sounded pretty cool for just an impromptu thing!!
What a class act.
2:49 woah the camera gltiching on the fender amp mesh ahahah the shutter rate or something some phenomenon
Surprisingly though, Eric's answer was very interesting and informative.. wasn't such a 'dumb question' after all

CRappppp I missed him OMG I didnt know he was in town
The questions are ridiculous !
Eric is great....
That is him ? Your Uncle Pete.
He’s a modern day Beethoven but electric guitarist
Whoever is making that god awful racket at 20:45 needs to have the crap slapped out of them.
I know what it's like to make a jazz fusion sounding song and having someone tell you it sounds like a TV theme.
Love you Baby.
hah, yeah but notice how he stopped immediately after Eric started playing!

got it. Cliffs was cut on your 335
Thank God, altho I can't play like you but I have that shoes :p
Cool dude
What a guy... What a guuuy....
digital removes the warmth from sound. guess that is what compression does.
Music Master !
It's painful to see EJ treated like this. Sounds like that there were fewer than 10 people in the audience.
Princesston Pittsburgh!?!?!?!?! Let's try that here in NY, lol. Come on....it's EJ, original G3 folks!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do all the people asking questions sound so angry? :/
Thomas W Cause it's Pittsburgh, they're due back to the factory any minute now

He must be a religious, catholic guitarist based on the coolness.
