    Saw him in KC last year. He's certainly a real crowd kind of person. He'd talk to people in the crowd between songs. You can tell he loves what he does and has never let it go to his head.

    I was grateful for this. I was so in love with you & I was in my really big kitchen preparing my many ingredients for my marinara. I was listening to your To Whom It May Concern continuously looped for hours of play when he came in stupidly telling me about your Jamaican batteries. Stupid because as batteries drain their sound changes. Makes great sense to me that it could be quite frustrating to any Master Guitarist. This from the guy that had a completely CG album created on computer. People really are crazy Dylan.

    Hmm... I have a black Eric Johnson Strat (my favorite guitar of all time), but his is different. I hate when guitar companies do that. The one he's playing has different fret inlays and it's relic'ed. there's no way it would have aged that fast. Also his has a string tree and the neck seems to be flamed. Anyone else notice that?

  • @bizarrefruit
    @bizarrefruit 7 лет назад +9

    For the amazing tones he has, his gear is actually pretty low budget, excluding the amps of course.
    I have a DD-3 and to be honest I'm so surprised that he uses any pedal that doesn't have true bypass, maybe he modded it though.
    A bad workman blames his tools, this guy shows that brilliantly in this video, lots of his pedals aren't even boutique pedals.

    • @graxjpg
      @graxjpg 4 года назад

      bizarrefruit what he’s lost from the dd3 is so negligible that what he’s got is not affected.

    • @bizarrefruit
      @bizarrefruit 3 года назад

      @@breakingthe4thwall260 Yeah? Do me a favour then, look up how much a stock boss DD pedal is and then go look at magnetic drum delays.
      Tube screamer, DD and Fuzzface; you can buy all three, today, including the TS808 reissue for £400 on Andertons. If the sun were only as far away from Earth as those pedals are from budget we'd be burned to smithereens
      Yeah, they are specific iterations he uses and I'm sure he put in mods, but those pedals started as low-mid range at best.

    • @bizarrefruit
      @bizarrefruit 3 года назад

      @@breakingthe4thwall260 No, not 400 dollars, see the pound sign?
      Sorry to break this to you, but your ability to afford something does not determine where it sits relative to what is available to, bought and used by other artists of a similar calibre to E.J.
      Your argument is no more valid than claiming that a Ford Mondeo isn't a low budget car simply because you can't afford a Ferrari.

    • @bizarrefruit
      @bizarrefruit 3 года назад

      @@breakingthe4thwall260
      I've tried being polite with you while you've been a tool since your first comment and have barely read my messages.
      If you had you'd know it was £400 (POUNDS) for THREE pedals; two at just over £100 ($136 DOLLARS) and the reissue at £165.
      In the world of pedals, £100 is still a budget pedal. That doesn't mean there aren't cheaper pedals but when other delay pedals can cost £450 each and rack effects cost thousands, Boss pedals sit at the top end of the budget tier.
      Some people save up for years to buy the things they would like for their passion, even if they don't make much money, that is true all over the world. You would get really upset if you saw how much a 'budget' harp or marimba costs.
      All of that might matter if we weren't talking about Eric Johnson's pedals relative to his budget, not yours or anyone else's.
      Finally, you have no idea what my experiences are, so go fuck yourself.

    Eric is right about one thing, the fuzz is picky about what you put in line with it. I also liked the flanger effect as well, I'm surprised more folks don't use it when playing lead guitar; it sounds amazingly good if blended just right.

    • @spartacus2296
      @spartacus2296 9 лет назад

      I can relate to you thinking that people should use flange for lead as well as rhythm. I use flange for just about any thing from power chords to solos.

    • @summershark
      @summershark 8 лет назад

      Emil Kabban. Eric is amazing. But he doesn't suit a fuzz to me. Butler and plex and plexi is part of his style. Fuzz sounds too buzzy

    • @emilkabban6085
      @emilkabban6085 8 лет назад

      Mark Soderlind The true secret to fuzz is using the effect with a tube amp with some drive in the preamp. The fuzz clips the waveform straight across the top, playing that through solid state amps is too brash. The tubes will squash down and smooth out the waveform, that is why Jimi sounded so good through the Marshalls.

    • @summershark
      @summershark 8 лет назад

      Emil Kabban
      Duh?
      Of course.
      All he has is tube amps.
      Plexi, twins and a Dumble.
      I was just saying I like fuzz, But Eric sounds better using his usual tone.
      When he started his solo career there was no fuzxface on his board. Didn't need it.

  • @primatebuddy

    @UKToneKing I'm not really convinced he was talking so much about the effect of tremolo on the actual tone so much as he was referring to how the trem itself sounds. It's easy to notice a difference between a Floyd versus a stock Strat tremolo, so I think what he was talking about it how the Super Vee sounds more like a stock Strat.

    @UberNoobtard I believe that fuzz face was made for EJ custom by Jorge Tripps of Way Huge fame who heads up R & D for Dunlop. Also Joe Bonamassa's gold fuzz that he's been using for years was originally made for EJ but EJ didn't like so Jorge gave it to Joe. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an EJ signature fuzz face before long :-)
