It’s wrong though. Most blacks after slavery chose the surname Washington. It was the number one name they chose, other than keeping their ex slave master’s name. So it would be easier to find relatives who were sold off.

Itd be nice if people knew history. Slavery as an institution wasnt accepted by everyone. The British empire was on the way to abolishing slavery and that's why the founding fathers fought the revolutionary war. It wasnt just about taxes. Also Lafayette used to write letters critical of Jefferson and Washington for having slaves.
