you're a hero for this. my calc 3 professor never explains each step thoroughly and i was straight lost trying to understand how to find the boundaries. i wish more professors just took the time to go step by step instead of expecting us to pull the info from our asses lol
OMG this dude is so awesome our teacher went over this stuff today! But he writes so fast no one can keep up and listen at the same time. I come youtube today and the first thing i see in the middle page is my subscriptions box. And what do i see? ASK ME, What do i see? I SEE MY MAN PATRICK (JMT) posting a video about absolute min/max. Okay...Actually my midterm is tomorrow and now I am going to preview this chapter...But nice and clear video!
I still have a question though, so what if you have a higher order function, say, f(x,y) = 4*x*y - x^4 _ 2*y^2 and I solve for the critical points and got y - x^3 = 0 & x -y =0. So do I have to always make y-x^3 = x -y and solve for x and y? (this process is super time consuming....) Do you have any other way? Thx!

How about a video on Cylindrical Coordinates? I tried to find one earlier and it seems you dont have any (even though Its Polar Coordinates with z added in). Im sure others besides myself would appreciate it.

What about the cases when your derivatives are a number like Fx=1 and Fy=1 for equation x+y+1=F(x,y) ? on set x^2+y^2
Question: when the equation DNE at a point, that is also a critical point right? how would you find the point where the equation DNE?
DNE is short for does not exist; I think youre looking for "undefined" ;)
setting those partials equal to zero and getting values for (x,y) as critical points in this problem was super easy..
unfortunately on my exams they much more complicated..
is there any algebra videos that explain how to find critical points with much more complicated partials derivatives to set as zero ??
And how do I find the critical points of an absolute value function, such as | 3t - 8 |?
