As a veteran I have to largely disagree with your views on trade in PoE. You're perceiving the external trade search, 3P programs, and in-person trading as an inconvenience that something like an in-game auction house could fix because you view the issue through the lens of being a buyer and the accessibility of buying. However, you're not considering the actual economics involved. In short the choices surrounding trade that GGG can control are purposely prioritizing economic balance and ensuring that value can be found in drops. The inconvenience is actually the point of the way it is.
For example, in-person trading A.K.A synchronous trade has a completely different supply/demand dynamic than an auction house A.K.A asynchronous trade. If you are on for 4 hours then you'll only have access to the supply of those 4 hours of people who are online, at their computer, available to trade, and willing. Also, because someone has to stop what they are doing to trade it therefore has an opportunity cost, which sets a floor price for what people are willing to stop to sell for. It's why many very common items in PoE are still worth 1-2 chaos because the buyer is effectively paying for the service of the trade not the item. It's the same reason buying bulk is more expensive not cheaper. Trade being annoying to deal with is literally adding value to items. Compare that to an auction house and during those 4 hours you would have access to the supply of whatever the posting duration would be and there would be no inherent opportunity cost for the seller to set a floor If that post duration was 24 hours then that would be like having at least 6 times the supply and people undercutting. The value of most drops people found would race downward and bottom out.
Take it from an old wow AH goblin who sold millions of gold to pay for wow subscriptions, gear, and mounts. An auction house does nothing but make it a buyers market. The problem is the easier it is to buy the harder it is to sell and the less everything you can generate from playing the game is worth. And it would absolutely not remove the need for external programs or 3P programs. They would simply change form and function towards the heightened competition of selling and undercutting. I'd sit at the AH on multiple accounts running trade skill master posting/canceling thousands of auctions every few minutes using pricing scripts while looking at The Undermine Journey website for item/price heat maps and paying for an SMS service to text me when certain other AH entrepreneurs came or went offline so I'd know what my competition was doing and could undercut them on stuff when they were inactive. I enjoyed it but by no means could I do it and other activities in WoW other than queue BGs.
In PoE the main way to make wealth is playing the game, optimizing what content niche you want to farm/supply, and how to extract maximize value/hr from what you're doing and picking up. Some will farm heist for alt gems and replica uniques, some will farm delve for Aul and fossils, some will farm blight for oils, some will farm Alva for corruption alters/lens, some will farm harvest, some will farm breach, and on and on. The community covers the spectrum that one person generally can't do without being an absolute survivalist expert in PoE. That's what makes it one of the best in-game economies ever as well as indirectly promoting build diversity around the demand for rewards from different kinds of content. No RF build wants to farm Maven for Legacy of Fury I can tell you that.

First of all, thank you for your PoV, and I think you are EXTREMELY correct. Incoming long response :]
I think we just value different parts of the experience. I value the buyer experience, where accessibility is the goal, not oversaturation of the market. Basically, I think the use of an in-game auction house may be up for discussion, but making trade easier to engage with is something i strongly recommend.
Using real world examples for this, PoE trade right now reminds me of buying or selling a car, home, or playing your hand at the stock market. Yes, it is 100% possible for anyone to buy a car, but most of the time, its a very inconvenient experience unless you are buying from a dealership or using a trusted site like carvana, autotrader etc. The dealerships and dealer sites make it easy for customers to buy and sell cars, taking away the barrier to entries that come with dealing with an individual seller. Individual sellers can set their price anywhere, they can hide details of the car that would be important to know, they can scam you or tell you lies. Individual sellers are also selling out of their home which means its harder to find their advertisement and you have to schedule test drives (if they allow it) or meet ups that prolong the experience and give both buyers and sellers the anxiety of "What if the other is untrustworthy?". Long story short, the car market has benefited by being accessible, even though many would argue that the car market IS a sellers market rather than a buyers. Prices continue to go up, because prices have adjusted to the increased value of having a car for its functionality or luxury.
Now on the other hand you have the stock market, which is less accessible to the common consumer. The stock market introduced penny stocks for the exact reason of pumping more money into the stock market economy. But it was also a way that the common consumer could afford to invest in stocks. Most people dont have thousands of dollars of extra income and a degree in economics or business. But all you have to do is pick a stock, invest a lower minimum and you have a chance to make some money. No stock broker needed. That being said, the stock market as a whole is still less accessible than most other markets. You still have "big money" controlling most of the trends. The knowledge of how to engage with the stock market is equally as important as having connections in different industries that can give you tips on how a company is doing. Really tip-toeing around what is legal. The normal consumer doesn't have enough money or experience trading to truly engage with the stock market, and if they do, they are entering in a space dominated by those with much more money to play with. So a lot of people feel the stock market is incredibly daunting and will never try their hand at trading stocks.
My point with PoE trade is that you dont have to go 100% one way or the other. Accessibility does not mean simplicity. GGG can still have friction with the process while teaching new players or casual players how to trade so they can join in the fun. Its also a bit easier for GGG to do this than in the real world because GGG controls this world. They can control the value of things because they can control scarcity, buyers and sellers fees, the rules of engagement for trades. they can increase or decrease the value of items through its functionality or the luxury of having them. They can control the economy, not just keep people from entering it.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, GGG knows more than we do. They know the inner workings of the game, so if they say that trade needs to be this way - well that's just the way it is. ARPGs are tough to build economies in. Especially for long periods of time. WoW's auction house and economy was GREAT even with bots, because the design of the game made trade a valuable part of the gameplay and the simplicity meant items were easy to understand, sell, and buy. Overtime the economy was just too oversaturated with items and gold and bots/gold sellers exacerbated the problems that Blizzard had created expansion by expansion.
Either way, I still respect GGG for taking a stance one way or the other. This is a game, not the real world, so maybe engaging with advanced economics shouldn't be a requirement and GGG can just make a game they think is fun xD

      @arcc4 Год назад +1

@@AllTradesJackReviews Appreciate the well thought out response.
Your car analogy misses in a couple of ways. For starters a sellers market is low supply/high demand and so of course prices raise and incentives towards increasing the accessibility of buyers to find sellers to meet demand. Games economies have the opposite problem in that by their very nature players aren't just buyers and sellers, but also near endless producers. This tends towards an unlimited supply and if allowed a severe buyers market like in the cases of many in-game auction houses can just result in rapid inflation and goods devaluation.
It's not that GGG doesn't want it to be easier and more accessible to trade, but that accessibility itself is the danger to the game economy, the value of loot drops from actually playing the game, and also just the principle of allowing it to be as player run as is practical.
As for making it simpler that's a whole other problem. The fact is PoE is an advanced economy whether or not someone wants to learn the ins and outs. That advance nature is a manifestation of the game's itemization and natural market mechanisms like Mathil making a build using a certain unique and it suddenly having a 500% jump in value. I just don't see how simplification on the user end is possible given the complexity of demands and variety of supply.

@@AllTradesJackReviews so after finishing this massive beast of a video and hearing all of your new commentary, I have some thoughts. (wall of text incoming, please stick with me :P )
First and foremost - You're right. In so many ways. PoE is unforgiving, overly convoluted and likes to equate randomness and tedium with difficulty.
I stopped playing WoW in Shadowlands after 14 years of playing consistently. I had been playing PoE on and off for about a year at that point, and so I swapped out my time spent on WoW with more time in PoE and I also picked up ESO.
I tell you this because I want to underline how similar most games are, and how each game is really just a different variation of the same question "What kind of player are you, and how do you want to play this particular game?".
I would like liken WoW's leveling (base game) to PoE's campaign. Levelling through WoW's newest content expansion would be like PoE's map progression. WoW's end game (open world solo content, pvp, mythic +, or raids) is similar in idea to PoE's end game (juiced mapping, bossing, heist, expedition, etc).
The general progression of the end game is similar. You start out broad and general: in WoW an example would be doing random heroic dungeons then regular mythic dungeons then mythic plus dungeons or normal and heroic raiding. And you keep repeating that loop of content for every patch and every expansion with each tier of upgrades allowing you to do yet more difficult content. In PoE the example would be: you finish map completion and kill eater of worlds and searing exarch, then shaper and elder, then sirus, then maven, then uber shaper and elder, then uber sirus, etc. Again, each tier of upgrades allows you to move further down the difficulty progression. If you're a solo player in WoW, or a casual player in PoE, your path of progression looks different, but the feel is the same. Thus, in essence, each game is really asking "What kind of player are you and how do you want to play this game?"
I don't have the kind of time I used to have when I was 20. I can't raid Mythic 3 nights a week and push Mythic+ keys anymore. Neither can I devote 200 hours every league in PoE to grinding for currency so I get the next upgrade that will allow me to progress further in Delves or Heists or Bossing. So, I changed my approach to playing games.
I play ESO because it's friendly to casual players, the sub is optional and comes with a ton of extra goodies and I can play the game the way I want and at my own pace. I play PoE in the same way. I play each league for the first 3 or 4 weeks, farm some currency, buy some good all-purpose items and then bounce back to standard knowing that all of that currency and all of those items will come right back to me in standard when the league is over. This allows me to progress infinitely on my 2 or 3 highest level characters. I get free full respecs every 3 months in standard so I can try out new builds if I want, and I get a short break playing a new league for a few weeks every 3 months without feeling like all of my progress is lost and that I have to start all over.
For me, this is the kind of player I am now and the way I want to play games. I encourage you to ask yourself the same kinds of questions. I can hear the frustration in your voice at times, and while it's completely understandable, there's also more ways to play and approach the game that might not be so frustrating.
I love your content, I've been watching from the beginning. I like your unique takes, your stubborn persistence, and your curiosity. Keep sane, exile.

@AllTradesJackReviews excellent video! Sounds like we have had a very similar experience even down to using Poison Concoction followed by Pox's RF Juggernaut builds! Lol! I have been playing off and on since the console launch (PS4) (2017?), and the trade issue is IMO a better system, with the use of a trade market board in towns. However prices 50- 100% increased acrossed the board due to less player on console. It's very discouraging at times.

Also my approach now. First character in PoE. My tactic was simply to hoard Skill points and use them only when I needed them to progress so I knew where I HAD to use them. Now just doing the first Tier of maps even though I could do a bit higher ones at least. I feel following a guide would have had a way bigger risk to demolish my motivation to play the game, especially if I still messed up something.
Totally hooked on the game and eagerly waiting for PoE 2 to eventually come out :) Gotta love that microtransactions are going to be shared with PoE 2

However I have so much more fun playing at my own pace and making my own builds. I’m a beginner and I can honestly say you don’t need a guide there’s a very real chance of a guide sucking the fun out of the game. Go in blind or just watch a couple of streamers play through either way do your own thing.

While I appreciate your Review I kept wanting to comment on several things during the first part.
1 - Overlay Map you can move it to a different part of your screen, You can Zoom in and out while its open, You can fully customize it making it more or less transparent and even hiding parts of it like the elevation type feature and just show the boundary lines through the display options in the settings menu. So I disagree with the overlay being bad I actually love it more than any other ARPG's to date because its so customizable. Also the Corner one you can zoom in and out on as well so that may have solved your issue with it.
2 - Extra systems Yes the game has implemented a crap ton of different side content with unique systems from previous leagues but while they may not have those specifically in the help section when you are introduced to several of the more in-depth ones they have a NPC that explains what they are and what they do and give you a mission of sorts running the mechanic. So while not all of them work like that the bigger ones do. Including Heists, Beastiary With Einhar, Blights with Cassia, Delves, Harvests, Expeditions, Temple Runs with Alva the NPC's have more than just lore they also explain what to do involving those types of things.
3 - Passive tree always seems to freak people out until I mention that its just a passive tree not a typical skill tree because you dont get skills from the passive tree you get skills from gems slotted into gear and or linked to other slots with supports and such. So basically all people have to worry about is the next like 1 - 3 options on the tree. And like you said its pretty fun browsing around the tree looking at the bigger nodes to see what they do. Or where to get that stat boost they need to eqipt a new piece of gear or skill like if its a witch and they need to grap a 30 dex Node to get a skill to compliment thier setup like a movement skill that isn't a int based one like Dash or Smoke Mine or Shield Charge for example.
4 - Also curious if you were on Standard Mode or in a challenge league? The vast majority of people that play Path are usually in a challenge league only hitting Standard if they want to test a build a week or so before a new league starts. Otherwise its normally slow as far as game population on the standard mode. Also nowhere in the website or game does it say anything about PoE being a MMORPG. Its a ACtion RPG a spiritual sucessor to Diablo 2.
Ony game trying to be that is Diablo 4 and doing it badly I hear.
Regardless dug the video hope to see you in game at some point I also mostly play solo but I am never opposed to group play.

Cool with a reflection video :)
In regards to ep. 7 & 8 respectively, i don't know from which game, but some game taught me to just spam the "more info" key for everything, and that really got ingrained into me in PoE where the ALT key pretty much helps on everything (especially if you've toggled the advanced descriptions on, funnily enough, that isn't on by default because they feel that the information given would be overwhelming for new players lol).
And ep 8, everything regarding trade has been discussed time and time again (and you're getting pretty close to stances that have surfaced over time haha). Generally agree with the take that specifically price-checking should be built-in (also integrating the trade website itself would be great), and imo everyone should get a premium tab for free. But i actually believe that trading at its current state (and if it was made more frictionless) hurts the low/mid-end of mapping-players the most as it furthers selling stuff you don't know how to interact with instead of learning by trying (especially i.r.g. to crafting), because as you said it's so much more "bang for your buck". Which are also the vibes i'm getting from GGG. Just know that they try to design it around making it clunky for those willing to engage with it for buying/selling items, and have changed their stance to making it simpler to buy stuff in bulk (stuff so you can run mechanics you want fx. scarabs).
Some mechanics are absolutely balanced around trading (fx. current league mechanic crucible), but most stuff isn't unless you get to high-medium-end of endgame. I don't play even near optimally myself, but league starts (where the trading market is for lack of a better word "spicy") i generally first trade when nearing maps ~6 hours in but don't really do a lot until i get to tier 16s or if my build is shit :D
But i remember when i first started trading (with the non-premium tabs and forum posts, it is possible! even if way way way way worse of an experience), and i'll just say that the friction you're experiencing is probably mostly from the knowledge-gap between you and established players about what to sell, where the friction the community in general are talking about is the friction in buying stuff. If you sell (normal) stuff at a competitive price that you'd be happy about getting in raw currency drops, it's pretty frictionless most of the time.
Getting the knowledge required for not spamming price-check on everything, you just generally get better at filtering stuff out you know won't sell. That or stopping with caring and just dumping everything into the big stash tabs with a general price that you slowly lower :)))

    • @AllTradesJackReviews
      @AllTradesJackReviews  Год назад +1

That's interesting! As I become more familiar with the game and trade in general, im sure that some of the knowledge gap will close and I may not feel like its as hostile as it is, but i do feel for new players. i am 600 hours in and i still have a main component of the game i dont understand? that must be even more frustrating to someone coming in at 50 or 100 hours lol. But honestly, Trade isnt the worst thing. Its just inconvenient. and that seems to be the goal!

Imo, if you will give every new player premium stash tab - bots will destroy league economy. Bots are a bit of a problem now, but in a free game with a free prem stash tab... Anyway, yes, trading system can be better, and I hope that GGG will improve it.

Tysm for making this beast of a series. Got me really interested at first but as I got further I realized how much I would both love and hate several things about the game and ultimately realized I am not ultimately in the target audience for the game. Its something that is hard to accept especially not putting any hours myself into the game but as someone that puts all my time and effort into whatever game is fascinating me at the moment, this video was very VERY helpful in deciding what I should do.
For those curious at what point I decided it was on the 4th episode where he starts explaining how little information the game itself gives you. I absolutely love discovering things all by myself and despise things like """"information discords"""""" so seeing that you basically have to look up stuff about core systems if you dont want to spend hundreds of hours tinkering with what the game has to offer was the defining "yeah looks cool but I dont think its really all for me" moment. Suprisingly it was the games HUGE skill tree that initially peaked my interest after playing roughly 100 hours of D4 and WAY TOO MANY HOURS of warframe.
Interestingly I also have found warframe to be almost equally vitriolic towards new players, but for entirely different reasons.

My proposal to fix trade while still keeping some amount of limitation and friction (which Chris insists must be a part of trading otherwise it'll make trading "too good"), is taking inspiration from the old school MMO model of having an NPC helper that you hire, make it so you can attach one premium stash tab to that NPC, and then have that NPC stand in some kind of social hub, possibly your hideout here, selling your items to other players.
It'd work seamlessly with the current system, you'd put items there, a price, and wait, the difference would be that players would be able to go to your hideout on their own, without a need for an invite, trade with the NPC vendor themselves, while you CONTINUE PLAYING THE GAME and not worrying about it.
It'd automate the entire process while still keeping a manual element, some kind of friction, at least for buyers, while making it painless for sellers.
They could even monetize it so you can buy multiple NPC vendors or stash slots for a single one, I wouldn't mind paying for the convenience.

Think I stumbled upon your channel when you put out Pox' RF Juggernaut guide vid. Back then I was trying to finally crack the hard core (pun intended) of PoE again for the n-th time. Really like your approach to just go in blind first and I will give it a go myself. While I see your points how a guide is helpful, min-maxing and guides have taken a lot of fun of exploration out of gaming for me over the years, so now I kinda enjoy the discovery phase more, albeit being quite painful. Feels more rewarding when it finally "clicks" without having a cookie-cutter leveling guide on the 2nd screen...
Keep doing what youre doing, love your reflected and yet laidback style. Fingers crossed your channel grows further, well deserved :)

Thanks for sharing your journey and I really love the "Director's cut with commentary" :D
One perspective about trade I found interesting, is you saying that an item does not feel earned if you trade for it. But you did get the currency and hence you fully earned the item. I do agree though that PoE in Trade League is focussed on currency making and not target farming, unless you specialise in that farm :D
But that being said target farming is actually in the game, but ofc in a multitude of different ways and systems (divination cards, boss drops....) and leads to even SSF players getting to pretty dope builds but with much higher time investment.
Just one perspective I wanted to add in comparison to other arpgs which is the upside: You don't have to mindlessly farm for many hours on end, maybe never seeing the item you are chasing and since everything is of value all time you spend farming does contribute towards your goals, which ultimately makes it so satisfying to me. I don't feel like wasting away hours at small odds. But I do also enjoy playing SSF or even Ruthless from time to time for the excitement of building from what I get and having to target farm and craft my own stuff :)

First video I watch from you, random youtube recommandation. Really liked it a lot. You speak well, you take time to understand things and have a meaningful judgement. Editing was enjoyable as well.
I must have around 2k hours on PoE, want to give some feedback about your opinion.
The way I see PoE nowadays that I have some experience with it, is kind of an infinite grind. You place your own objective for the season, it's kind of a sandbox in a way. Maybe this league you want to focus on heist to understand truly what it can give you?
Maybe this time, you will pick a strong meta build to kill an uber boss for the very first time?
Maybe you want to reach the milestone to finally acquire a chase item?
Maybe this season you just want to a good old build you started on couple years ago and don't try too hard?
I play both SSF and trade league, and to be fair they serve different fantasy purpose. I feel like trade league is fine once you get a grasp of pricing items. It allows the "average" player (like me, with 2k hours) to reach the pinacle content of the game. SSF is more like customisation, learn mechanics slowly but very rewarding.
I feel like new players kind of need to understand that doing all the content, all the boss, etc is not for everyone and it's ok. if this season you burn out at T6 map and you reach a wall, it's ok, as long as you enjoyed the journey. Maybe you will do better another league, maybe not. The fact that you need hundred of hours of grinding to get to the pinacle content is kind of cool for players that want to play this game for years and never really feel they have accomplished everything.
I used to burn out from league kind of quickly when I was a noob, doing maybe one out of 2 seasons. Didn't really understand how to keep scaling, how to reach another milestone. The more I play nowadays, the more I understand those things, and tend to play longer into the league, doing every league. It's a game that rewards your time learning in a very meaningful way.
About your criticism for trading system, I just wanted to point out that it has an advantage (in my humble opinion) you didn't consider. It's the fact that it create a sense of community when you are forced to interact with others people. You have to visit hideout, speak to people. Some of transaction I made have led to good friendship with fellow PoE players. You still feel like you are a part of a community. I've played diablo 3 in the very beginning of the game, when there was an aunction house. It felt so lifeless that everything was automatized. Sometimes trading is daunting, but I like the fact that it helps you to interact with the people from the community.
anyway thanks for your video, I liked it a lot. Hope you enjoy your time doing it!

I think starting blind is fine as long that u dont go into the game expecting to complete the harder content at the start.
Its the absolutely best way to learn the game.
But after u have played it for awhile its a good idea to pick up a guide so u can complete the harder content while learning the deeper parts of the game.
After that is done it could be a good idea again to play blind again or go ssf.
I started the game at the wrong end and played hc with a few friends in a group for a few leagues and we quit after a few deaths every time. But later when I stated playing by myself it was very easy to jump into trade.
After a few leagues of that I learned that ssf was way more fun for med since I dont like the handholding and instant upgrades u can just buy.
Keep the content coming and gl on your journeys!

I think you may have misunderstood the trade manifesto. The game is totally balanced around trade, but it's balanced around it being inconvenient. Veteran players are not even listing items below a certain threshold (2c - first day, 10c - third day, 30c - second week for example), because (as you said) it takes away time from them doing the content - earning progess towards their next big thing.
This dynamic keeps common items still somewhat valuable as totally new players can still sell them for some profit.
This is mostly a "microeconomics" theory which is unconfirmed but is plausible and GGG sticks to it.

I'd be very much in favour of changes to make PoE easier for new players. For example, SSF could actually just boost drop rates to not waste your time so much to make the seasonal completable without trading. If you lock me into SSF forever, I am okay with that. I also think having free unspec points until level 70 could be really useful for new players because I honestly don't see how they can make meaningful decisions at low levels when their knowledge of the game is at an all-time low.

Loved your series, For your next league i would suggest that you increase your focus on gear crafting, there is so much to learn there and it will give you a better perspective of trading as well. Its a bit sad that you played RF but didnt engage in the most fun part of the build which is crafting the GG gear for it. Once you learn how to make items, you can take pride in buying a 30c base then using 50c worth of materials to create a 1-3Div item and then you can try again on a new base to make a 5Div item and sell the lower one. Its a really great feeling of accomplishment to transform your knowledge into power and money.
I'm a 2hrs a night casualdad but my biggest accomplishment in the game after many leagues of following guides and crafting my own gear, i transitioned to making my own build and items. Then transitioned again to SSF(Delve-league) where i used 2months and 25 days to beat Uber-Elder, the hardest content at the time. To this day that remains my biggest point of pride(Even if i'd never do it again, screw fusings, i'm back to trade-league).My point is that your initial stubbornness to learn by yourself as value but you are right, Learning from example is the way of the game, but its totally the best feeling to manage to make things yourself. It takes many leagues under your belt but its acheivable with dedication.
You said in the early videos 'The game is about picking up and finding upgrade for you build' Then later said 'Trading is the game'. I disagree, Trading and picking up items are processes to gather ressources. What you DO 'with' those ressources IS the game. To me , Crafting is the game and its beatiful, you havent scratched the surface :)

I've been playing this game for years, and I think it's greatest weakness is that it explains so little. Just take something simple like when you get or need to select a new skill gem, you read it's description and it says "deals chaos damage" on it. Your first question will obviously be what the hell is chaos damage? If they had just added a way to click on the word and give the user a small brief explanation right then and there, this game would be a lot easier to understand for new players. But they've never done that which is a shame since I know a lot of people who just dropped out because they didn't understand certain things. Many people points to the wiki, but who the hell wants to be searching through web pages when they start playing. Hopefully they spend more times on this part of the game in PoE II.

And as you find out later in the video, elemental resistance is very important in this game. Like first time you died to one of the elements, which would be cold, a small popup should have appeared just telling you what the problem is. Instead you had this frustrating time playing the game, while this is not hard content at all if you just add some resistance. Resistance later on becomes mandatory and need to be capped, but the game doesn't inform you about this at all.

OK, I finally finished this movie. 😅 I watched it piece by piece over the past two weeks. Great job as usual on the presentation. I've seen all previous episodes separately before so this was a nice recap.
Having said that, I wanted to chime in my 2 cents worth. I've tried POE blind, and I've tried POE following a build guide. I have to say I had more fun playing it blind. When I followed a build guide, I got bored quickly. It felt like driving a Tesla on Autopilot. You don't actually drive, you just watch the scenery around you. It's what turned me off to the game. I didn't feel I was playing it. I felt like I was watching someone else's build being played.
I've since moved onto Grim Dawn. If you're a fan of D2, then this is just up your alley as it's almost a clone with its own twist. I find myself thinking about the game when I'm not playing it, and watching as many YT educational videos trying to absorb it when I can. Once I figured out how to focus on a damage type, It felt like a Euphoria moment as I stared destroying things.
I'm loving Grim Dawn, and there's a big update coming end of summer/early fall. I hope you find the time to try it one day, maybe review it. Just get the complete Definitive Edition when it's on sale on Steam.
GLHF rest of the way. Looking forward to more videos. 👍

I think the difficulty of PoE comes more from getting the stats right than the actual gameplay. The gameplay can be hard on its own, but true mastery can only come from understanding what stats make your build work, how to modify your equipment just right, and tightening and tightening the build like a well-tuned engine.

Hey, loved the series and loved hearing the new commentary on this one. It's fascinating to see the behemoth of a game that PoE is thru the eyes of a new player. This is an interesting video ( ruclips.net/video/o-mA55WPVKc/видео.html ) which made me believe they left the new player friendly aspect on the back burner. I guess they are more focused on keeping the player base they've build than being greedy in expanding it. PoE2 will fix it COPIUM.
I hope you continue to document your Path of Exile journey from the perspective of "new player tackling the high end game". I read comments about people being happy of reaching red maps or certain bosses for the first time in xxx hours of gameplay and how accomplished they feel all the time. Would be interesting to see you kill Uber bosses/dabble in to some high end crafting/crazy investment farming strategies or doing some highly optimized meta builds.
For all the Diablo 4 refugees, don't be discouraged to try out Path of Exile, it's an incredible game and you can tailor the game to your liking or choose how much endgame content you want to engage with, which makes learning step by step a lot easier.

My advice for any intermediate players is to learn to craft, especially the items of your build. Crafting your own items most of the time is cheaper, and still gives you the satisfaction of creating a powerful item. I'm not saying craft all the items you wear yourself but especially the more expensive ones, unless it is annoying to craft. There are many guides on youtube, maxroll, etc. on how to craft specific gear for builds, for example there are many guides on how to create a +2 rf scepter or how to create a +2 phys dot amulet. Crafting is also the most profitable thing in the game , with most high end crafters making mirrors a day. Especially when crafting for popular builds, most high end gear you are crafting can have failure crafts, where you don't get everything you wanted, for example you were trying to create a item but it didn't roll elemental res on it which you need to cap your resistances with. Typically you can sell these items for more than you use to craft it in the first place. For example a week into crucible league I was crafting a amulet for my build but I needed res and attributes, but my first craft didn't hit either so I sold the amulet profited a bunch that I was able to restart the craft, make the amulet and came out with way more currency than I started with. The profit margins are usually pretty big with crafts, I spent roughly 17 divs creating the amulet and sold it for 30 divs. While it didn't sell quick, it was still in good enough demand that in a couple of hours I had it sold.
My second piece of advice is that you shouldn't be afraid to juice maps for more money. I'm not talking about ultra juicing maps that have 8 mods, 100% delirious, etc. I'm talking about general juicing, like using basic sextants, Kirac mods, and scarabs. Most low investment strategies are typically always profitable. I remember when I used to be scared to invest into maps because I thought I was going to lose currency doing so, but a lot of the great strategies typically always make profit. While it isn't always immediate profit you just have to trust the process. For example, I know most the time I use a heist sextant and use Kirac's heist mod that I'm not going to making immediate profit even if I sold everything in there. However, I know that if I save up all the heist contracts and blueprints I get from them and then run them, I will make more than enough profit to make up for the initial investment
TL;DR: Learn to craft, gives a sense of accomplishment, and is insanely profitable. Don't be afraid to use currency to make currency. Invest in your maps and you will be rewarded with more profit out of them

Generally my advice would be to follow a guide and resolve yourself to learn something new each league while enjoying the new content and a new character archetype.
That way you get the benefit of playing a coherent character build that can actually beat content and give you that dopamine hit when you find a valuable item, but you also progress towards being able to play more and more unguided. Eventually you can even try your hand at making your own end game viable character!

I do not think the game is predatory. The issue with stash tab space is only relevant "AFTER YOU START ENJOYING THE GAME". It takes quite a while before you actually need to buy the stash tabs. I did say you can go through the game on an entire character with just the basic stash tabs. Secondly. The game is not really promoting the microtransactions while playing. Ask yourself how many times the game reminded you of the mtx while you played the game the first time.

I don't want to point on anything but imagine paying a lot of money to a game and still ask you to buy in game items and reminds you that buying this and that would make your progress even faster.
Predatory? No. GGG doesn't create problems for you to purchase in game stash tabs. Other people play the game per league w/o even using stash tabs so much (PoE racers). Stash tabs are there if you want to commit your time inn a free to play game. MTX are there to support the devs and gives you awesome items btw.

You put to much emphasize on strategy XD. You just need more health, defences and resist. You have about 2k less life in act 8 than you should have. Not to mention. From act 5 and onwards, you really need to start maxing out the resist which is 75%.
Like. You mention the game can be complicated. But if you die 10 times at a boss. I think the game is doing a good job of telling you that you need to focus more on you're defences.
The difference in difficulty is related to the mechanics of the game. You can have a lot of armour and feel safe in one area because the enemies do physical damage. Then get one shot in the next area because you run into something that does fire damage in which you have to little resist.

First of all, loved this video. Watch it all and it was super fun. In the 2+ hour of content, the only thing i disagree is the trading bit. Its like dying of dehidration and refusing water because you dont like sparkling water.
I see why, and agree is kinda annoying, but i actually dont waste that much time trading. Its like the campaign: after u learn it (how to do it), its easy. The 5 min it takes to make a trade its way better than The hours of research, farm, crafting it would otherwise take. Either u want to make all yourself (go ssf and research to learn how) or go trade and enjoy doing The mechanics and other aspects of the game u like (=
If at some point the trade go ingame, great. If not, nothing will change.
If u like the game, why not put some effort outside the game to learn the intrinsics. Im algo noob, but every league i learn something New. And thank god for trade, 'cause crafting is still Hard for the more high end items (god bless those Who make and sell spark gloves)

You can choose how much of it you want to interact with. im ok with the POE bloat because I’m accepting going into it that I’m never going to get very far. I enjoy ARPGS so I’m going to have fun just playing, trying to learn, and seeing how far I can get this is with realistic expectations that’s the key to making the game more enjoyable. POE must be played slowly it’s not a game you just race through. It also helps to be playing other games because the fact that your time will be so limited it keeps you from getting overwhelmed you kind of know to take the game casually and at your own pace. This is just my perspective a new POE player.

Microtransactions in poe arent predatory at all. If you need more stash tabs or specific stash tab like currency or map that mean you spend in that game at least 50-100 ours. I think that buying some coins for 15 or 20 USD for this time isnt much. And i say that as someone who dont earn payment in dolars. For me 20 USD is like 80.
But to make this even better for new players. There is "first blood starter pack". Its worth 20 USD(same as 200 coins). And you have there 200 coins, blood effect on weapons, AND a stash tab. So with 20 USD you have shit worth around 40 USD.

about the trading in PoE. GGG definitely want people trade. It's easy to make a AH but they definitely will not do so. Here is why. For buying, it's annoying but overall it's not that terrible to just browser on the trade website or to use an addon. But for selling,, 99% of the time the seller set up another accounts and addon for trade. Their main character wouldn't stop farming and go back to the hideout to commit the trade. And of cos by doing so their trade-mule need to have premium stash tabs.

Well, I think game could use some reduction in amount of things. Wisdom scrolls could be deleted. I personally would delete Alva and whole Vaal system. And cumulate options. Everything you can craft/upgrade should have atleast 2 specific sources how to get it or 1 primar and 3 secondary. Let's say Delve, Expedition and similar minion hording mechanics should drop everything you can't drop atleast from 2 specific sources like Essences, Oils, Catalysts.
I would prefer that Einhart and Harvest do same things.
But this is only my point of view

didnt like this vid at chapter 4. lots of misinformation, presented as a polarizing difference between casuals and nerds. the truth is a casual with the right build guide will make it just as far as nerd on a hipster build. just wrongly presented. my only criticism. comparing poe to sekiro or elden ring is just completely disingenuous
you just had bad gear and didnt understand why your gear was bad. its really as simple as that. hours of this video were squandered simply because you didnt understand that core tenet of arpgs.
for example you think you need armor when you have 1k armor- thats just wrong lol. one single "phys taken as X% element" on a chestpiece would make you directly that much tankier, etc etc.

Discovering or trying things on your own is an amazing way to play! That is extremely awesome that you are doing it too. Thats what I started with, and I wouldn't have done it any other way. Eventually, I just gave in cuz I wanted to progress and I didnt have enough time on my hands to learn it myself. But there are some things I still wont read guides on, like the seasonal mechanics, or crafting recipes, stuff like that!

Then there’s this girl that turns into a deadly sea turtle crab. And a dead pirate sends you to go ahoy her. Then there’s this really big demon guy that hid inside a statue for like some undisclosed amount of time and he’s like yawn it’s go time now bitches and he tries to take you out but you’re like nah man this path is full of enough exiles you know what i mean? And that’s just the first half.

5:27 love watching this vid. But do not agree with this point at all. One of the reasons I havent gotten into PoE Is that there is no weight to combat. A ground slam feels like hitting with a pillow into enemies that dissolve like rice paper. I hope this gets changed in PoE2!

    • @AllTradesJackReviews

It actually seems like it will be! Or at least the animations will change which I think will help A LOT. Some of the spell animations look like they interact with terrain too which I think will help spells feel like you are actually doing something rather than just an overlay with minor graphical interaction.

"the content bloat" narrative that asmongold pushed months ago is absolutely wild. I couldn't imagine bitching about almost unlimited ways to play endgame that you can target and block on an atlas tree and calling it a problem. IN A FREE GAME. I think people just love to bitch. It absolutely blows my mind. "THERE ARE TOO MANY THINGS I CAN DO".

    • @steel5897
      @steel5897 Год назад

I think you're missing the point. In any kind of game like this a new player will instinctively wonder what content or mechanics he "should" be doing if he wants to progress and succeed at the game, and when there's so much, to someone without intricate knowledge of how each of those mechanics interact with the progression of the game, it's impossible to know. This can lead to overwhelming choice paralysis, confusion, and new players doing something else and quitting the game.

i do not understand why players complain about the game not teaching them how to play the game. the game is meant to be discovered by you the player. once upon a time there was no guide and no one to teach you how to play any game. these days you just get on youtube or twitch and watch others play the game so you can play the same thing what others are playing.

The video gets funny towards the end because you think the game owes you an easy gear progression because you are following a build guide. I used to think that six links were a big deal and that creating them was insane because who can farm that many fusings? Your problem exists because you dont think about farming/trading efficiency. You dont need to farm 1500 fusings. You need to farm a couple hundred essences and a few fossils and maybe sell some gear you crafted for your build that you don't use anymore. You have an SSF mentality in trade. Its the same sort of mentality as being stubborn not following a guide. This will keep you frustrated and poor where you feel stuck. The PoE economy is just another endgame.

Not really about the top tier content and the passive skill tree. There is indeed notes that are superior to the others, but 85%-90% are usable for top tier content aswell.
The whole passive skill tree depends on your build, it has nothing to do with meta.
It's a combination of gear!/pantheon/enchants/.... And the passive skill tree fills the gaps of the rest.
