still very usefull device today , if your a basic computer user . I written my entire Application for Home depot on a newton and printed it no problem . these machines are still good for basic internet communication
That’s pretty cool. I’m getting one of these pretty soon. I was going to set it out on display, but I always use old electronics for fun. I’ll have to see what I can do with the eMate
I landed one a few months ago for only $29. Unfortunately it's in classroom mode and there's no way to restore full mode without the password entered by the instructor. Hopefully the infamous hinge issue doesn't brick my eMate (I'm opening and closing the screen slowly so as to minimize the force on the hinge.) If any instructors who used these back in the day around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex sees this and might remember any passwords please let me know! (I purchased it from a seller in Euless so I assume it spent its days around DFW.)
Waffles And Carolina Just got one in classroom mode as well. Hold the power button then press and hold the reset button then let off the power button while holding the reset. It will ask if you want to restore to factory settings
There is a good video from This Does Not Compute that shows how to protect the hinges from further damage by simply adding a couple of washers, that way you can prevent the hinge from being a problem in the future.
Thanks for posting this! It's great to see anything new for the eMate 300.

Tonight I just discovered that this device existed. The fact that touch screen devices like this were available in 1997. Completely blows my mind 🤯
WAY ahead of its time. Discontinued after less than a year, and the iPad wouldn't appear for 12 more.
yes but it had the same apple shenanigans of proprietary ports, and for audio, come on.

I managed to obtain 2 for completely free from my schools hardware club. Will fix the battery soon.

I bet someone at apple looked at the newton and a laptop and was like, "Guys, I have an idea hear me out..."

these monochrome lcd's have been replaced by e-paper displays, but I prefer these LCD monochromatic displays.
