Man these were so incredible in those days and the handwriting recognition was actually impressive - it seemed so advanced and it was.

I really enjoy the way this video is so heavily scripted ( he says in a really cheesy voice)

Most people wouldn't realize this or just don't get the concept on how this device had made phone calls. Since the phone was never looking for what number you pushed only the tones. When you put the Newton device near the receiver. Soit can listen to the tones and dial the number. As in the same ways when you push the buttons on the phone receiver. Remember Captain crunch whistle if you know what I mean.

The enthusiastic way he says "infra-red wireless technology" perfectly ignores how horrible that tech was to use. XD

RWDY I had infra red headphones, I don't see Bluetooth being that much better to be honest

Looking up Newton videos only to glance up and realize who uploaded the video lol that's awesome man :) You're quite deeply rooted with the older Apple stuff that I seem to only just now be coming around full circle on. Just need a MessagePad 130 now.... :D * 3:10 who needs a Cap'n'Crunch whistle when you have a Newton to assist with all your free long distance dialing? Hahaha...

The technology just wasn’t ready yet. It’s like trying to build a 1990s Mac in the 1960s.

I started out with a 120 and that was really usable. The handwriting recognition wasn't half bad all things considered, like the processors that were available at the time. And the functionality of that assist button (contextual intelligence) is only partly matched to this day. The 2100 I got later was huge step in the right direction, but it wasn't meant to be.

I always wonder how many people bought these back in the day and just couldn’t get the thing to do anything it claimed. Probably almost all of them.

Mine worked very well. I used it every day back in the mid-nineties. I still have it, and it still works.
It did have the odd glitch where you couldn't erase something from the screen and you would have to delete that particular note, but at least on the 2100 the handwriting conversion was very good.
