The newton was really cool. I loved the color of the backlight. I carried mine around with me all the time.

The amount of change yet intended purposes of PDAs from 1993 to tablets in 2020 is uncannily consistent. We still look to be productive yet interactive on the go. Those thicc boi Newtons never thought they’d evolve into the thin, sexy, powerful iPad Pro they are today

The Apple Newton was the child of Sculley who had overthrown Jobs. When Jobs returned, one of his first actions was to ditch the Newton and eMate.
Both products wasn't failures. They were quite successful but Jobs couldn't bare that Sculley could produce something good. Alongside with the demise of Newton, Jobs removed the PC compatibility of System 7 (Mac OS 7) with the new Mac OS 8.
Jobs destroyed anything which was connecting Apple with Sculley and PC. An exception was the Microsoft office which was too good to be ignored.

Not really. Steve Jobs ditched the Newton not for ideological reasons but because the platform failed to turn into the Mac and PC replacement it was intended to eventually become, plus it consumed a huge deal of development and manufacturing resources that Apple needed desperately to prop up the Mac and keep it viable. Back then Apple was in serious and real danger of disappearing altogether. The controversial part of Jobs' decision was refusing to spin off Newton as a separate company, as Apple had successfully done before with Claris. The general plan was to concentrate all efforts on fixing the Mac hardware architecture and replacing the aging Mac OS. Both initiatives took years but eventually succeeded, paving the way for the tablet's reinvention in a better form with iPad and iPhone. Mac OS 8 was an interim step to salvage a bunch of important Copland features and was also a success for its time.

Apple and the first PDA? Didn't Psion release the Organiser and Organiser II in the 80s... about 8 to 10 years prior to "apple creating the category". The Psion Series 3 also came out in 1991... Yeah sure Apple created the first PDA ahem...

Personal organisers were around since much earlier, right. Apple's aim was to make a pocket device as capable as a full-powered desktop computer, which none of the competitors were, and add "intelligent" features such as software agents, fast networking (sort of) and the fateful handwriting recognition (only much later with iPad it was generally recognised that direct finger touch input was more useful than scribbling with a stylus).

Why did steve Jobs not like the Newton specifically?

Newton diverted precious resources that the ailing Apple of the time desperately needed to save the Mac platform. It was a right move. OS X brought back technical prowess to the Mac and became the basis for iPhone, which is Newton's spiritual successor.
