  • Perhaps the only 4 door muscle car to ever come out here to the US from Japan....Nissan's answer to the American muscle car....One of the cars on my wish list....One of 3 Nissan cars I would like to collect.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Update - Picked up a 2004 (April 2012) with 73K from original owners....Brakes upgraded all around to EBC rotors & red stuff pads...Finished a valve cover gasket replacement on one of the banks...upgraded to Teflon treated One piece Wipers as she now sits at 93k miles....And last week I was able to get my hands on this actual original DVD with Sales media from an original owner in Cali.....Dreams Do Come True as long as you are patient & true to them... :-) Thank you all!! I got my 2003 M45 in 2022. My first fully electronic car and Japanese car. Wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. It was a bit of a basket case but only 73,000 miles on it. I was fortunate to find the Infiniti Manual online and was able to down load it to my computer. I will say that manual is one of the best I have ever seen and I have a cabinet full of them in my shop. Like I said, I had no idea of what I was getting into with this car. I figured there had to be enough Forums I could rely on. I have been working on cars for 35 years. But what blew me away was the computer network was just like a Building Automation Network I had been using from 1994 to 2008.
    I will admit I do like this car for the same reasons everyone else does. What I don't like is every part seems to cost $350+ when they break.
    Fast, fun car. Need to put a power steering rack in it and back on the road.

      Good luck Rich....It certainly the best kept secret in a japanese rear wheel drive sedans here in the US....I have had two and I am down to one right now. Stick to premium gas & if you can find out what oil was used in the motor, just keep using that same type otherwise the engine does burn oil over depending on what all the different types of Oils had been on the VK45 motor in it.....Its a race engine tuned down for street usage....it will go well over 200K miles as my other did but just keep up with the type of oil used initially....
      I am using the synthetic blend from Penzoil as it was what was used in the engine since its first oil change by the original owner that got everything done at the local Infiniti dealer here & I saw all records from 0 mileage till 73k miles when I purchased mine 2 years ago now with 83k miles on it.

    • @abaayyaar
      @abaayyaar  10 лет назад +4

      Also, be easy on the hood as its not sheet metal, plus lube the hinges with some white lithium grease spray as they tend to bend over time & you will see the edge not flushing through with the fender near where hinges are.
      Also don't slam the trunk as it has a Auto Latch closing so you don't slam the trunk.....Keep the driver's seat a little lifted from the bottom most position to save the hardware from bending as it may bend & break over time due to heavier drivers doing in and out of it. Its a great car with minor things here and there that require a little extra attention like a Jaguar if you have ever owned those before.

      From what I have noticed over the last couple of days, the M45 I picked up needs a lot of maintenance work done on it. The person I got it from did not really know how to take care of it and they almost destroyed it. I plan on bringing it back to life and keeping it for a long time. It has every option except for the navigation and the cruise control that monitors the car in front of you... The seats need a complete overhaul, the carpet is dirty, and it needs new paint, but the engine is smooth as glass and I can hardly feel the transmission shift. I have only seen one of these cars on the road in the last 11 years since they came out. I feel lucky to own one.

    Gentlemen and ladies, the VK45 like the VH45 engines are race engines toned down for street use.....key thing to remember with them is to not hop around in brands of oil.....I found out from the dealer where my 2004 was purchased the oil type (valvoline durablend 5w30) and I've continued with that same brand religiously. ..no oil burn or anything yet and it's just under 90k miles....
    Don't use these cars for short hauls again as these motors were designed they had a tendency to create significant amount of carbon and it so use them for higher speeds than the stop and go traffic driving. Gr8 car and especially the mighty VK45 so plz take care of yours if you want them to last....they are the same engine that powers the drift champion here in the US (Nissan Z) and had also powered for years the Japanese Touring car championship ' s GT500 class non turbo GT-R. You have a legendary engine at hand so please embrace and take care of it. This car was all about its engine.....try mating with a manual 5 or 6 speed from a 300 or 350 Z and watch it fly in your M45

    I owned an '03 M45 from 2005 to 2013. Things I like about the car:
    V-8 with 340 hp!
    Sleeper - looks like a nice 4 door sedan
    Lots of luxury features
    Good reliability
    Tires last a long time
    Great stability and traction
    A lot of car for the money (I paid $23K for a 28K mile 2 year old car)
    Things I would change:
    Seats are not the most confortable
    Manual shifter is very slow
    Cracked two exhaust manifold
    Burned about 1 qt oil every 1k mi.
    Didn't feel stable over 125 mph - front end gets light
    I sold mine to a friend for $5K. If it were to the public, I would've got $7.5K or so. Very inexpensive for such a nice car.
    I still own a BMW 540i sedan (282 hp), which I love, but I don't drive often. The reason is that things break often and are expensive to fix - minimum of $600, but most times in the $1,500 range. And it needs premium gas. I do love the handling and the luxury of the car. It's also very stable and feels sold at the top speed, even though it's only 128 mph (electronically limited), I also hate to admit it, but the reason I bought the M45 is that I did a drag race with the 540i and the M45 walked away from me.
    I miss the M45.

It was in mint condition with only around 25k miles at the end, and I literally may have seen 5 of them in my exact color combo during the time I had the car. They didn't sell because the were expensive, looked wonderful and too powerful for the market at that time. It was the most powerful car in that class back then even over BMW M Series. It is not the kinda car you are going to drive without knowing a little something about cars. It has a performance engine. So you gotta know this car is not for an everyday common driver.

    As awesome as the car is, do some googling to see WHY they are so "inexpensive" for a 10 year old Infiniti. In my area (Dallas) '03 M45 cost the same as a '98 Lexus GS400 with nearly twice the miles (and the same muscle). A lot of it has to do with reliability, sadly. Infiniti just isn't up there, at least cost wise. Malfunctioning fuel sender/fuel guage/instrument cluster -- $$$$, burning oil on just about ever 2nd car made (like most VQ and VK motors) in excess of 1 quart per 1000 miles...Malfunctioning cruise control collision detection radar, etc. All neat features but not enough longevity on these.
    I was pissed when I found these complaints out but not too surprised. I decided at the time, a 1998 245,000mile GS400 was more to what I wanted for the price (proven reliability -- minus a few known fixes). Solid reliability, yes, simpler but not much in the way of things to go wrong.
    But if I could again, I would definitely look for a well taken care of 2004 M45, as apparently they have less of the electronic issues of the initial 2003 models.

    • @quintonjackson6690
      @quintonjackson6690 10 лет назад +2

      I own the 03 m45 and the fuel guage issue is the only problem i had so far..i drive it like a luxury car is supposed to be driven, only occasionally opening it up on the highway. If u drive it like in this video u probably will see it burning oil. Im at 147k miles and i havent had oil burn issues because i take care of my car. It still turns heads and u dont see one often on the road but when i do i get the head nod from the other owner that shows that pride in knowing this car is still a beast

    • @Slovflyer
      @Slovflyer 10 лет назад +1

      Quinton Jackson
      While I agree that hard driving will ruin any car, I don't see how that's an excuse to bleed oil away the way it apparently has been on the VK/VQ engines on and off, to the degree it does. I have not seen similar complaints with many other sports luxury cars....which is what the M45 is. It's not exactly a Buick LeSenior citizen, it's not given 340 hp for snoozing around..to me that's the ultimate waste of a car when it's driven like a grandma van. Of course, I don't mean you should beat the car, but an occasional spirited acceleration once a day should not result in this (which is how I have driven my GS400, and previously my Altima 3.5), and I would expect the car IS designed to handle at least that, without much ho-hum about it.
      May I ask, what exactly do you remember happening with the fuel gauge issue, and how much did it end up costing? I understand there were a couple causes.

    • @quintonjackson6690
      @quintonjackson6690 10 лет назад +3

      Lol..i just drive it like you describe your driving. I do let it roar when i need to pass on the highway but its a car to be seen in otherwise. As far as the fuel guage i noticed it once i rarely let my gas go lower than a quarter of a tank. I came out in the morning and it said i had a half a tank..when i put gas in it read correctly. If i keep the gas above that level consistently it reads fine. I use strictly synthetic oil and premium gas and the engine runs quiet as a whisper..i just love it
