I built a diy version of the elgato with my teleprompter and my shinobi focus monitor.... 1. I just plugged my camera into a laptop, and 2. the laptop was plugged into the shinobi that was 3. mounted on teleprompter via hdmi. This allowed me to either view the cameras live view any window text. If needed, Shinobi can flip the image via onboard controls. I do think the elgato setup would be preferable and $279 is a great price.
I just bought one…can’t wait to try it out when it arrives in December. 👍🏽

Brilliant video, especially impressive as you made it on the go. Sounds like the perfect teleprompter for me. Getting a first teleprompter sounds super overwhelming and so ease of use is a massive selling point.

I enjoyed your overview of the Elegato Prompter. 👍 BUT... I'm not sure what you were referring to with "Bluetooth Teleprompters" did you mean the ones that use tablets like an iPad or Android tablet? Because we use bluetooth with desktop prompter software all the time! (And yes wired remotes too).

Is it possible to explain how to set up and use the text overlay feature on OBS and Zoom? Not one of the many tutorials out there on this product address this claim. Beyond frustrating and Elgato customer service seems to be non existent. Big thanks!
Text overlays are not a default feature of OBS, so the process is going to depend on the plug in you're using.

I have 2 big LCD prompters and I like these one for portability and price. The big ones are for bigger setups but this looks perfect for simple portable projects. The big problem is the Cable... its super expensive a long and stable USB3 cable.
Agreed, this can be way more portable than the larger teleprompters often are.
3:00 for snapping on a Mac there's the Magnet app, and that's not the only one.

I use a fairly inexpensive prompter at my desktop setup. I have it on a tripod just above my center 48" lg cx oled (I've got 3 of them in my setup). the prompter I have has a 1/4-20 tripod mount for a camera behind it, but it doesn't have a monitor, it has a tray and is designed for a tablet. - THAT'S where all my problems lie because reversing the image on a small pc monitor or tablet is difficult without using specific prompter software (which typically only reverses text). why the heck windows doesn't simply allow you to reverse the display output I'll never know... (it does advanced compositing for everything now, it should be a simple switch in the advanced display options). I ended up using spacedesk to get an extended display to an old microsoft surface 12" tablet I have around, and I used some pretty janky software called ultramon to flip the display. the cursor remains unflipped though and there's some lag with ultramon so ymmv.
Yep, those systems are lower cost in one way ($) but costly in other ways. Hopefully you're getting it to work for you!

If you won’t be looking directly into the monitor can you use NOT attached to the camera, to have notes scrolling and such? ( I’m guessing yes, but just checking)
If your goal isn't maintaining eye contact with your audience, then you don't need a teleprompter - just put your notes on a monitor! 👍

Not great for those of us using a good 50mm lens... a prompter that size needs to sit about 2.5 meters away... when they make one bigger than 12inches... I'm in.
You could use the universal backplate with the hood for a 50 lens.
This has a specific use case, right spaces for example. So yes, it may not be a good fit for you, but for others it can be perfect!
I concur. The issue is always the distance between camera and subject. It's tough to find beamsplitter glass to build bigger teleprompters.
But as a solution for on-desk setups, it looks ideal.@@LiveStreamingPros

Just because it's new is THE BEST budget teleprompter 2023? Or because everything in this channel from ELGATO is always the best?
It is the best budget option for many reasons, but probably most important is price and because it is so flexible (it works with LOTS of different cameras).
That said, if you watch you'll see that it's not for everyone - different set ups and use cases need different solutions.

You can certainly build one yourself but it’s a pain!
