I've been in her shoes before. I quit switched jobs from a place 60-odd miles from home to a different place 40-odd miles from home. Literally, third day working on the factory floor, I wound up 'chucking into a trash can. (I couldn't make it to the restroom.) I kept working though, then I had to make a trip to the restroom & deliver an unholy repainting of the interior of the porcelain throne of the workplace. After two or three more sessions of arse painting, the foreman for the department I was working with said that I looked feverish & that I should head home. It relented a bit the next day so I went back to work but I was still blah. I finished out the week but still wasn't doing well. I woke up Monday morning & had to make a mad dash to pressure wash the inside of our loo with a bit of liquid poo. Once the smell really started getting to me, still with it shooting out of my backside, I wound up yakking into the bathtub. After both ends seemed to cease with being under high pressure I cleaned stuff up, started getting ready for work, but then my stomach started tossing & turning again. Reluctantly, I called in. Most of that week I was still sick but on top of it I developed a head & chest cold round about the middle of the week. I finally went in to get checked out & they told me that it was likely to be viral gastroenteritis & it had weakened my immune system enough for me to catch a respiratory viral infection as well which had already turned into bronchitis. They put me on a prophylactic antibiotic & sent me home. This antibiotic made me DOG SICK. I called in both Monday & Tuesday. Back into the doctor I went. They changed my antibiotic out BUT had determined that my bronchitis had turned into walking pneumonia. They wanted me forcing fluids, getting plenty of rest & to walk around periodically. The stuff they put me on had codeine in it, they didn't want me behind the wheel, let alone working at a band-saw station. They told me to take the rest of the week off. I did call in for Wednesday but not for Thursday. However, upon arrival, the manager called me into his office to give me my walking papers. To this day I don't blame the guy, I would've fired someone gone that many days in the first 3 weeks too. Still, he could've called me & told me not to bother coming in, ya know? I never did identify the source of the the viral gastroenteritis. We seldom went out to eat then, same as now, so it had to have been something in the household. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the lunch meat I used for my lunches...

For one thing she has court dates which is suspicious, but secondly you can't get most sicknesses if you stay isolated from people. There _is_ food sickness, but you _can_ go to work for those if there is no coughing/sneezing/runny-nose symptoms.

she would have a doctor treat her and give her legal coverage for missed work days so that her employer can't fire her for being sick. but, and here is a crucial thing, doctors are not paid by her but by the government and they are not incentivized to give you days off if you think you are sick or it is something psychosomatic (like nervous cough).
if you are totally not capable to be employed because of your health (like compromised immunity, so you are sick all the time), then you don't get employed by a job that exposes you to the outside.
