Hi both of you, Well I have had one of Ant Hex beams with 40m add on and the exstream weather kit for about 3 years. My hex beam is on top of my other antenna on the tower and is about 27m from the ground. The antenna works really well and I use it manly for the higher band but it is very quite on recieve which is important for me as my station is at my works QTH in the middle of an industrial estate. The problem I suffer with is birds sitting on the antenna's. Next week I have 30m cherry picker to repair the 20m element which has broken due weight of the birds. I will also do some maintenance on all the antenna unfortunately I can not tilt the tower enough to work on all sides. Love your tilt system. The 40m element works very well and is about 4-5 S points down on my main 40m antenna but has a much wide focus and allows me to pull station out which I am not pointing at. My works QTH is very near to the sea well 100m to the river and 2km from the english channel and Ants weather kit has been fantastic winds last week were 88khm on the weather station and the hex beam just flexs. You will have great fun and I hope to work you soon 73 Richard M0UOO
Very nice antenna array your dad has. There are a few of those around here, but they have a tendency to go faulty from icing and wind in winter. Great for more moderate climate in France. 73' and enjoy you vacation? Tony.
Very nice video, Tony. I can see where you get your penchant for precision in your work. Good to see the foreman (forewoman?) show up near the end to keep you boys in line!
Excellent video Tony. Nice to take time out with and help family! Great weather too :) I misread the title and thought you were adding a 40m (Height) option! Was wondering how you were going to support that... Not a HAM operator myself, but have a few rigs and do listen to you lot :) Currently have a spider mast in the loft. 73's to you both. Excellent camera work by the way! :)
Thank you Stephen... i thought the same and have no idea what to do with all the pipes i brought :)) .. coming from you, that the camera work is good, means a lot to me, as you helped me a lot in the start... Thanks!..
Great video, nice and straight forward with minimal talking and much more demonstrating. Thank you so much. Two questions? The extra beam looked like it was dual band perhaps 6m and 4m? Elements too small for another band. The extra tilt over part at the top, can that be locked or does it require another winch and cable? De Spence M0STO
Thank you!, i am not sure about the beam, i think it was just 6m. the tilt plate can be locked, but because of the weight of all of it above we had a small portable manual winch to help it tilt.
Hello, from the video, the telescopic mast seems very very solid and well built. Do you have by chance any pictures, and/or some advice ato share, as I'd like to build one similar ?
Hello and thank you for this video. I did the same transformation with also the 30 meter. The 40m is a dipole shortened in X, I built everything, extension support in tracer. To put a 6m below do you have a minimum space under the hexabeam? THANKS. I found you for my next project "Siglent SSA3021X PLUS" 73's Thank you for your videos to you 2 and the family. F6EII
Thank you Ralf! the 6mtrs is gone, we had a problem with strong weather.. also last winter sadly due to too much ice on the wires, my dads hex beam broke, he is now looking for a stronger model better resistant to the EU winter weather and strong winds. Interesting your 30 meters modification, nice! 73, Tony PE1ONS
I live in a block of flats 13 meters high and I want to hang the antenna 3 meters above the flat roof. What will be the effective height of the antenna - 16 meters or 3 meters??
Having a clear view is the best i think. if 3 meters is enough to go over the other buildings around, it should be good to.. if you flat builing is serrounded by other big buildings, maybe 16 is better for a clear view. 3 will be stronger constructions, so depends also on your weather what is the best to do.
Hi Tony. Wow that antenna is pretty wicked man. I keep wanting to get into 40 Meters, but I just love my 10 meter setup. Would 40 meter be good for talking skip from Canada to Europe?. Also I love the pool greenhouse. I actually never seen one before, until watching this video. Now I want one for my pool. Does it work well? Thanks for sharing 😀
Hi Andrew! not sure 40 mtrs is good for such long distance, maybe my dad knows, he is a real Ham.. but they do a round every day around europe, and that works fine. The pool greenhouse is an Abri, is works very well if you have a lot of tries and leaves around the pool and it keeps the water more stable in winter. and you can slide it open to the back if you want it open in summer
Great video , I will ck your dad's web site to see if you have more info on the base , the telescopic tower and the 90 degree bending arm at the base of the hex . brilliant set up . kn6jvs 73's

I like the mechanism of your tower.
