    Definitely nice color scheme, but the low temp is definitely a disappointment. The build quality looked very good. Actually, it looked better than a lot of them You have disassembled in the past. Thanks for sharing the review!

      Glad you enjoyed the review!
      It is in the class of “better” built ones I have worked with. Simple change of spec on the BMS can solve the low temp.

      Got a nice charger video coming for you soon, correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe it was you who requested a 12V lifepo4 charger recommendation?

    Wild that this video is newer, but the teardown shows different BMS than Will Prowse's teardown video. Unfortunately I bought one of these batteries and feel like I need to return it since I don't know if I'm actually getting low temp protection.

      Are you able to stick the whole battery in your freezer. You don’t have to tear it apart if you check it that way.

    What's the difference between the TM and the Classic> 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery, Built-in 100A BMS with Low-Temp Protection, Group 31 Deep Cycle Lithium Battery, Up to 15000 Cycles,
    BTW other reviewers of this battery had the same low-temperature issue. One may have been on Will Prowse's channel?

      I believe the trolling motor unit has the TVS diode whereas the others don’t. Also it’s a G24 format.
      I can’t speak on the group 31 as I haven’t worked with it, sorry I couldn’t be more helpful!

      @@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD Thanks you were helpful. I was looking at the Classic and it was a few dollars cheaper.I was curious why..

    • @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
      @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD  Месяц назад +2

      Probably due to size format. Usually the smaller case command a slight premium. Minis and G24 are usually more $ than G31 size cases. Don’t know why but that’s how they price them.

    I really don’t understand why these batteries have such a problem with low temperature protection. They act like they are trying but it just doesn’t work.
    I get they sell more if they advertise the feature but the fact they don’t make it work is just weird. Especially this failure. It’s seems to just be set wrong in the bms.

    • @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
      @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD  Месяц назад

      Usually they are just configured wrong! The function is there but at wrong protection levels! It’s a marketing point! Only a few actually trigger around 0°C/32°F

    Cold temp cut off is for charging the battery only, not discharging. All lithium batteries discharge at cold temps

    • @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
      @THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD  2 месяца назад +8

      No, -4°F is discharge minimum temp for LiFePO4 cells

      @@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD depends on the allowed values of the cell, not all cells are the same, there are starting to be batteries on the market that can even be charged below zero (with limited current).
      We have stock different types of cells and one special cell is EVE LF22K, -25°C with 4A charge, even cell have 300-600A 10s peak current.

      @@niemma2
      Correct not all cells have the same specifications. Some EVE cells can discharge to -30°C but in reference to the battery that was tested, the specification along with the majority of the other 12V units I test is -20°C.
      Some manufacturers include a low temp discharge protection feature plus a low temp charge protection feature. I test for both now in units that claim low temperature protection of any form.
      It is also commonly known that LiFePO4 can be charged below 0°C with a minimal current, again depending on manufacturer specifications. This video was not intended to be a LiFePO4 primer course. Many of my viewers are new to LiFePO4 and it’s best to recommend NOT charging LiFePO4 below 0°C and this also aligns with manufacturers recommendations.
