Yet another GLOWING review from a guy who just got done refurbing my 5 year old Asus gl703gm using this guide. The internals are IDENTICAL can there is SO MUCH good info in this video, you even helped me keep the screws straight at the end! THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!
I have the GL703VM GTX1060 model. I repaste it 2 times, the temperature dropped but still hot compared to other series. This laptop really has a thermal problem, if you tilt your screen it blocks the radiator exhaust.
In elden ring, its going to get so hot that cpu start to thermal throttle after 5 min GL703VM is extremely HOT. Extremely hot EDIT:btw its stock setting. I never do overclocks or thing like that

Thank you so much , my average cpu was around 60° just by using google chrome and gpu 60 , after i cleaned it my cpu went from 60 to 40 and gpu to 45 , didn't expect to have so much dust after using it for 2 years
@@antoineassaf7508 i didn't replace the old one , so i did nothing expect clean my computer , i saw huge differences just by getting rid of the dust , i didn't expect so much dust after 2 years of usage , i used toothbrush because the vacuum cleaner wasnt powerfull enough , i cleaned carefully with the toothbrush
I'm fear. I have mine for 2.5 yrs now. Use it all the time. My room is really dusty. Yeaaaaaaa, thanks for giving me the kick in the butt I need to clean up the laptop.
I just did this to my G1703vm gtx1060 with intel i5 8265u and 16gb ram. Ive had this laptop for 5 years. looks different internally than the one in the video but still the same enough to give me confidence to do this repair. Ive had it for 5 years and never did this before thermal paste was completely dried out. I noticed this morning that my pc was getting hot while according to task manager cpu was at 18% and memory like 30% usage. When i checked temps it was hitting 95c and full on throttling. Its not supposed to exceed 87c. So i bought all my supplies and applied new thermal paste. And now cpu goes up to 38% and 35% memory the temp stays at like 55-60c at 85% cpu and 45% memory it still only gets to 70c. Im worried i likely will have done aging damage to my cpu, but everything works fine so we'll see. Fans are a bit quiter too. But i think theyll never be fully quite again since the bearings arent new.
thanks for the video, it helped me a lot. Don't you have a plans to show how to completely disassembly this laptop? I spilled a cup of tea and want to reach a keyboard to clean it, I'm afraid that liquid can damage my motherboard with time
Hoping someone can help me out here. My laptop was so gunked up with dog hair I had to open it up and clean it. I follow this guide, very helpful by the way thank you for that! my issue was when I was trying to reconnect the left side fan, The pin did not wanna go back in and I was trying to be very gentle but a whole piece popped off the motherboard… I ended up putting everything back together without the fan and it does boot up, I’m just wondering how screwed I am? If I purchased one of those fans the laptop could sit on top of do you think it would be enough to off-balance the missing fan on the inside?
Where can I buy new fans or just general parts for this computer? My second fan has an issue. Its rattling a lot and would like to replace it. If needed it's a gl703gm gtx 1060 6gb i5 8300h and it had 8 gb ram but I swapped in 2x16 or 32gb ram. Thanks in advance!
Because of the thermal paste on the mosfets and memory chips did you change it or left it like so ? Because when heating a lot memory tend to cause frame drops
This is late but doing this operation should have no effect on what you are experiencing. Make sure all cables are plugged in correctly and re-seat the RAM. Always after disconnecting the battery long press the power button for 30 seconds to deplete any stored electricity in the system before working inside your laptop.

Hi there, can i ask something please? Thank you for a great video. So the vent thats on the top next to my keyboard, thats not the same air flow as the fans beneath??? So does that mean it just lets heat out rather than blow out? How can i make air blow through that vent please?
I want to use Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut for the CPU and the GPU, and use thermal pad Arctic 0.5mm for the memory and other parts. Is it better to use Paste on all components, or thermal pads will be better for the other parts?
Update* So I successfully repasted my GPU and CPU, but in doing so my HD hard drive Sata cable ribbon cable came unattached. So I wanted to know if you could do a tutorial on how to reconnect that? I mean it was dumb loose I mean a ant could pull it out it was bound to happen.
Don't spread the thermal paste, a blob is best, as your press down the heat sink it pushes the blob out flatter ensuring NO bubbles... flattening it doesn't do this. Also don't dust off your components over the top of your laptop. Earth yourself, and no, putting your insulated laptop onto an earthed mat doesn't do it.
I've added a second 16gb stick of RAM for total of 32GB and a 2TB SATA III HDD for storage. I need to upgrade my 256GB M2 SSD too but need to know the maximum size which will be recognized. I believer I've read a 512GB drive will work but need to know if this will support a 1TB SSD drive? THANKS
Thanks for making this vid but I cleaned mine out before seeing this. I removed the thermal grease from the vram modules and replaced it with normal thermal grease still getting 95c temps is this why
That's not thermal pads that's a thermal paste or gel like texture they use it would have been much easier for maintenance if they had used thermal pads honestly
4 months late but for anyone else who needs an answer, no. You can only upgrade the ram, ssd, and hdd. This is the unfortunate consequence when buying a laptop
Make sure all the cables are properly connected to the hard drive, they can be quite finicky. Also, make sure that you didn't pinch or accidentally disconnect any cables when you reassembled the body of the laptop near the motherboard.

In fear of damaging the chips from exerting too much pressure by lifting it I didn't apply the paste. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Should I try to apply more force to lift the cooling system?
Hey, I dont know if you already solved your issue but it might feel like its stuck because of the thermal paste - its kinda sticky so you need to use some force to lift it (remember about 8 screws that need to be removed (next to gpu and cpu!)
