  • My friend Sam and I hiked in Friday evening, stayed the night up top and then dropped into some lower country looking for some brown elk shed antlers. I had a great trip and picked up 4 browns and quite a few white elk antlers. I also picked up a few mule deer sheds and a huge brown Coues deer shed that dropped super early.
    Thanks for watching.

    Just did my first shed hunting trip last weekend. I hiked a little over 6 miles in some awesome country. I saw 2 elk and a herd of whitetail deer while out looking
    Every now and then I would come across remains of animals and bones. Got into some fresh elk droppings and tracks. I picked up a cool skull and came across most of the skeletal remains of a small deer or elk.
    I think I found everything but a shed. Still had an awesome time for my first go and cant wait to actually find one

    Nice haul! I like finding spots that have a bunch of whites and older sheds like that. Good sign you found a honey hole that no one else has hit. Rest up, recoup and hit it again. Find those brownies!!!

    Hey Trent, random question I usually shed hunt locally around the northwest valley of Phoenix but would like to head up north a little bit to look for coues sheds , are wilderness areas a good place to start to beat traffic ?

    • @RogueOutdoorsmen
      @RogueOutdoorsmen  Год назад +4

      I like them, because it limits traffic to the more hardcore group. But some of the high country roads are usually blocked from snow, so the road closures act as a mini shed closure sometimes.

    I'm curious, how much would the antler buyer pay for a 10lb horn? I've been wanting to get out and get some hiking in, but the snow/mud have kept me at home in Flagstaff. I don't really hunt antlers, I just like getting out into the hills.

    • @RogueOutdoorsmen
      @RogueOutdoorsmen  Год назад +3

      A 10 lb brown would go for $160 - $180 this year depending on the buyer/market. I just like to hike around as well and I run into these antlers.

      @@RogueOutdoorsmen I guess that explains why all the out of state'rs flood into AZ every spring. Lots of money on the table. Just my opinion, be nice if the game and fish put some restrictions on that and gave preference to residents. I was born here, and miss how easy it was to get drawn for a Bull Elk tag every 2-3 years at the most, the 2+week 3 weekend seasons and not seeing very many other people during my hunts, before OHV's made it possible for all the lowlanders to get farther off the main FS roads. Yeah, I'm a bitter old man. lmao.

    • @RogueOutdoorsmen
      @RogueOutdoorsmen  Год назад

      @@AnAbortiveRomance I’ve definitely seen an increase in people out due to ATV’s and SXS’s. There were places we used to pick up sheds right next to the roads/trails and now there are people in those areas quite often.
