      anyone whos lived any amount of time hates Shinra with a passion for good reason specially after you hear what they did to his family or did you quit after you got to the gold saucer because you thought you were half way thru how can his back story not hit you in the feels specially when you get crisis core as context
      or heck even dirge of cerberus

      I was happy it actually made the list, when he showed it at the start I was like "But it won't actually be on it, he's just making a point of what an ARPG is" so it was a nice surprise. The story is fine, nothing to write home about but it'll keep you invested. But it's easily my favorite action RPG of all time simply because said action is top tier, I think it easily rivals Nier Automata even though I'm sure that's a divisive opinion. If it had a 9/10 story instead of a 7/10 story I'd just straight up say it was better. The only thing really bringing it down in the slightest is the story presentation and how much of it is shown as VN style stills, if it was fully animated like a Tales game even that 7/10 story would probably be better received. I seriously hope we get a sequel someday.

    • @TheSilvershadow200
      @TheSilvershadow200 Год назад

      @@jessefisher1809 That's a tall order. The only games I've ever seen with full voice acting are Fire Emblem Echoes and Three Houses, and I've played a *lot* of JRPGs. TX, like most games, only has critical story/character moments voiced.

    • @jessefisher1809
      @jessefisher1809 Год назад

Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Graces f, Tales of Xillia, Tales of Xillia 2, Tales of Zestiria, Tales of Berseria, Tales of Arise had a few holes but it was covid and its pretty complete so I give it a pass. Nier Replicant ( even the townsfolk are voiced in this one), Monochrome mobius (and afaik the other Utawarerumono games as well), Scarlet Nexus, Shining Resonance refrain (also has a couple holes but 90%), ff7 remake, crisis core, Xenoblade chronicles 1 and 3 ( presumably 2 but I've never played it). FF13 and I think ff15 and 16 too but I haven't played those either. Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4, Star Ocean 6, Fairy Fencer F. And I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting.
      So.... what do you mean its a tall order? I expect modern games to be voiced. Its pretty standard, even on some low budget games. Its not some insurmountable mountain.
      If its not voiced, thats all you had to tell me. We all value different things in games. Me, I like rich character driven stories where I can hear emotion in the voice to connect with the characters. Falcom games, or at least the ones I've tried have been so silent they put me to sleep so thats why I asked.

    I really love Tokyo Xanadu from their gameplay, story, and characters. Even though each characters tropes isn't exactly unique, but how they interact with each other is very good (like Mitsuki & Shio because of their cooperation in the past for example). And not only the main characters, the side characters also interact with each other very well too.
    Ys IX also did this, and they did it even better compared to TX and Ys VIII, you can really connect with each characters and understand each of their stories and issues with it. And not only the characters, the narrative of Ys IX is amazing, they know how to make a referrence to older Ys games and it really was an enjoyable fanservice

    The only thing I think nox does better is the cast quality overall. I cared more about Nox's cast overall, but in Dana I didn't really care about half of them. It was kinda like cold steel 1 and 2 class 7 vs cold steel 3's class 7. Only it wasn't smaller, just universally good all around, instead of half good half who cares.

    Your list is almost perfect but i would like to replace MHW with more deserved like Stranger of Paradise or SO Divine Force,i feels like MHW shouldn’t be considered as entirely JRPG because the developer literally said MH Stories is RPG of MH so that’s mean they don’t really acknowledged MHW or pretty much any monster hunter non stories games as fully RPG.

    I was playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake back when it first came out to see what all the hype was about. I had no knowledge of anything that happened in the story outside of the general plot of the game and I was really loving it. Then one night while I was gushing about it to a group of friend's who knew I was playing it for the first time and then one of them just decided to spoil that something happens to my favorite character and now I have absolutely no motivation to play the game anymore as how can I even get invested in the game if I know that something you were so invested in is pretty much for nothing. I'm sure the game is amazing and I would really love it but it's now on the permanent backlog for me, don't think I'll ever return to it again as I'm still salty af about it 3 years later

    • @coloryournight
      @coloryournight Год назад

      I’m a little late but what’s the spoiler? the whole thing with FFVI remake is that it’s actually more-so an alternate version of the original FFVI, plot is changing and characters who originally didn’t have much of a role in the story or their role were cut short are potentially going to have way more time in the limelight.
      Zach for example is going to be in the sequel of Remake whereas originally he was only in a one off game.

    • @coloryournight
      @coloryournight Год назад

      Also, I believe that having one plotline spoiled doesn’t ruin the journey completely. There is still alot of story to experience even if you know the conclusion to one of those stories. There’s a lot to FFVI, and the remake is ever-expanding upon that so I think you should definitely finish it especially with the sequel on the horizon

    Ys IX really was great. All of the voice acting was great except Krysha, and even though you can tell they borrowed ideas from past Ys games and some other major RPG's, it's a pretty engrossing experience. I didn't totally love it the first time (might have been because I played VIII pretty much right before it) but when I went back and played it a 2nd time, I was super into it. The only gripe I have with Ys IX is that it wasn't optimized for remote play on Steam, so after you play for like 45 minutes, you start to notice the audio and video become unsynchronized until you reset Steam Link. For whatever reason, Ys VIII and Ys X are optimized (located under the "Great For Remote Play" tab) and this isn't an issue.

    I even did a 100% achievement run (and I only have 4 big games (50h+) with 100% achievements CP2077,Horizon Zero Dawn, Overcooked 2 and Scarlet Nexus).
    Nr. 3 is Code Vein for me. As a person, who doesn't like Dark Souls, CV is perfect cause it's waay easier and has a story not only told in Lore snips and -shame on me- the fanservice.

    I've played about 6 of 10 games on this and yes, they are exceptional. A few things I feel like I need to say. First, SN doesn't have enough animated cutscenes, switch really bogs the story down, no lie, I fell asleep one time during one of those visuals. Next, Trials of Mana Remake was better than it had the right to be, but man is the AI friggin useless on higher difficulties. Furthermore, I'm ashamed to I went a whole without playing MHW, probably get back into it. Lastly, I don't want Tales of Arise to get a sequel, I hate JRPG sequels, but a DE would be pretty wicked. As for the other picks on this list, yea, I've heard they're pretty solid too. Sorry if I rambled on.

    The original Trials of Mana/Seiken Densetsu III is probably my favorite game ever, definitely my most played one. I basically made a science out of party selection and class changes with my own guides. It's incredible how nuanced that system is, every single class reaches its full potential only in certain combination with others and it's so satisfying to find that perfect flow of a party. The remake is really good and I also played through countless times.

    • @awetistic5295
      @awetistic5295 Год назад

      @@TheGamingShelf It's tough to pick just one. My favorite class, by far, is Hawkeye's Wanderer. With spells like Aura Wave, Lunatic and Counter Magic, it's a perfect support class. You should always have stats up or down and Lise's Star Lancer makes that quick and easy with her stats up for all allies. To take maximum advantage of Aura Wave + Stats up, I'd go with a strong class with multi-target class strike, so definitely Dark Kevin or Dark Duran. Kevin has brute force, Duran adds a bit more variety with saber magic. Hawkeye as Wanderer, Lise as Star Lancer and Duran as a Duelist is an unstoppable combo. Start every battle with Stats up + Aura Wave on Duran and you can clean entire screens of enemies in seconds. Add in Lunatic for boss fights to instantly lower max HP. If enemies have annoying spells, start with Lise's Marduke for silence. Just an overall perfect party. You don't have a healer, but you really won't need one. Stock up on Poto Oil and pick Lise to throw them.

    They're basically just power ups for your main lead.
    Also, Tales of Arise is great, but it felt less like a Tales game, and more like Star Ocean. Which is not a bad thing.
