Highly informative (especially for someone who knows next to nothing about redstone like me) but also very entertaining to watch. The wait was so worth it. What an absolute chad...
I think part of it is Etho just makes what is fun to him, he doesn't build doors or fully working computers or anything that really fits a competitive category. Instead he invented the hopper clock and many still call it an etho hopper clock. What he does is experiment with new features in survival and finds creative uses for them like making Wilson (basically a tamogatchi), the Pixel, Googler, and his latest shulker search engine, made a 3x3 door minus the center so he can enderpearl through it, and otherwise just makes what he feels like. In a similar vein Tangotek currently likes making fully survival redstone minigames like Decked out, amoung us in Minecraft, Basalt Assault, and also doors amd iron farms. These are incomparables that don't really fit in any of the general categories mentioned in the video. I don't watch sethbling so i don't know what his focus is, but as a rule the popular youtubers are spending too much time making fun and accessible content to be the litteral best redstoner even if it was possible to define.
Being first doesn't mean you are the best. Etho and Sethbling have contributed more to Minecraft than anyone mentioned in this video probably ever will. And they deserve the upmost respect for that. But they are far from the best. The things being done by the people mentioned in this video is far more advanced than anything they have ever done

Id say etho and sethbling are the most important redstoners to have existed, the stuff they did wasnt incredibly technical by todays standards but they were the first to publicise its capabilities. Myren and earthcomputer are probably the best technical redstoners in my eyes and I'm glad they got a mention. myren is really good at slimestone too. Obviously the scicraft guys know best what goes on behind the scenes of their projects so i trust their opinions.
Amazing video. I liked the approach you took to decide who is the best. Asking the top guys of a category who they think is best is way better than asking average guys because the top players know more and are therefore voting with more knowledge of what is out there and all.
The thing about mumbo jumbo is that he typically makes redstone that a normal person would watch to the end. I know plenty of people that leave a video because it is too smart for them.
In slimestone many talented people wasn't mentioned, really. Pingu and Xyor and Cubehamster for sure have the skills, but they're almost not doing anything nowadays, Cubehamster was active during 1.8, which was a long time ago. I would include in this list Fallen Breath, Euler, Desu Desu, Vitamin C
i love this video :)) so many of my friends, i love making part of a community and seeing people i know being featured in channels i love. this is based.
People should see that Mumbo Jumbo doesn't make the most complicated Redstone. Sure he is amazing that is true. But like searching up "fastest 5x5 or 6x6" you will get a massively complicated door. When you look at Mumbo's its not as complicated or he doesn't even attempt it.
for comparison mumbo's only slimeless 5x5 is 20x20x21 (8400 blocks), a standard 5x5 currently would be 540b and the smallest is 220b, from fast doors the fastest is 0.3s closing/0.6s opening, but mumbo hasn't attempted a fast door yet
love this look into the redstoners ranking. to me, redstoning is an art, and you can't say there's an artist that beats others hands down. can't say monet is better than van gogh as a painter. they might've pioneered some things, but in the end, they all create their own unique style of their art. and we're extremely grateful to them for it. btw, here's a sub. :D
Thank you for the shoutout, but I'm a little disappointed, I thought you were talking a little more about my latest project in your video, (the 12x12 door) we only see it for two seconds.. I really appreciate the support, it's an extra motivation..
For the longest time I thought this would be a tournament battle and that this entire video was like, for some reason, the most intriguing forewords / contestant introductions I've ever seen I was sitting here even sometimes going "YES I know that one!" and ready to get out the popcorn and everything for an epic redstone crossover show
My skull is in the video at 2:30. I'm famous! My answer to the general question is peterjiangTW because of his creativity. In pretty much any video of his he showcases something unique that no one has thought of before. On top of that he is active in 3 of the 4 major branches you split redstoning into in this video and can be considered to be one of the best in each of them. Someone that came to my mind as an honorable mention for the doors category who hasn't been mentioned is 城之内pattai.
It would be really interesting to organize a redstone competiotion of some kind, maybe similar in style to programming competitions. There could be individual categories and an overall one that takes all of them into account. Besides the main categories listed in this video such a competiotion could also make use of different time or team categories, since especially bigger redstone systems are often a group effort. In contrast to the methods used in this video, a competition would have the advantage that it puts everyone on the same starting line regardless of how well known they are in the community. I'm sure there are some people out there that are really good but don't really have a strong public presence. Additionally, a redstone competition could work as quality entertainment also attracting spectators who aren't heavily involved in any of the aforementioned areas of redstone. I remember Sethbling did something like this with his 5x5 TNT cannon challenge, and developing that idea further into a proper competition has a lot of potential.
Hey, it's me Cwee957, I know I don't really comment usually, but I just wanted to say that this is a great video, I also want to thank you for showing my 4th synergy plot (at 2:24), and also thanks for the people who voted for me at 3:54 (the ign I had this summer was Floofboi957, so yeah xD). The fact his farms are so simple actually makes him the worst redstoner 😂. The most advanced red stone I’ve seen is a etho hopper clock with 5 lines of red stone. But he is the undisputed GOAT of simple farms.

@@YounesLayachi he does make actual tutorial and explaination at times, especially his older videos but it will be boring if he explains exactly how his redstone works every videos and I think that's something we can agree on.
@@YounesLayachi Ironically, I think everything you say is true - but also the exact reason so many people like Mumbo's content. You don't need to be into redstone (let alone care about the game's behind the scenes numbers) to enjoy his videos.
Only few people are really deep into redstone (at least compared to other parts of the game) - his style of videos allows for a much bigger audience to begin with and then there's the fact that he's quite the talented entertainer indeed.
wouldnt it be cool if all the winners of these catagories came together to make the best redstone build of all time
well they'll probably sabotage and burn each other's irl houses before they can so I don't think it's a good idea
unless you support violence
Nope. Because the best redstone build of all time 1. Doesn’t exist and 2. Refer to the first thing
Mega mob farm which uses 0 tick pistons doors to hold mobs in the nether allowing them to build up, then ship them out onto a flying machine where they will then be analyzed by a computer, then they get sorted and packed into entity cramming proof shipping containers where thousands of mobs can be held at once
@@neoncat6820 meh. Impractical. In terms of that you might be interested in Scicraft’s old slime farm, which had some computational redstone to figure out the fill level of the entire storage system

Mattbatwings appears briefly later in the video :)
Lol mattbatwings is great but he himself said sammyuri and sammyuri built a computer which runs Minecraft in Minecraft no words to explain this beauty !

@@frankgrimes7388 Even though I'm a doc fan, I agree that he shouldn't be mentioned when we ask about the best redstoner. Doc is the networking guy. He brings some of the ideas and gives a bit of assistance to the geniuses who create it.

What an editing masterpiece! Others might be good at Redstone but you present it and whatever you do in such an insane way! Claps 👏
but Mumbo revolutionised slime farms
_accidentally, by building an entirely ineffective one_
I love the respect a lot of the technical minecrafters have for each other, especially those that have commented themselves on this video. You can tell it's a great community and if you're one of the lucky ones that find redstone interesting, then this video is a goldmine into digging further into the technical minecrafters aside from the more well known like Etho, Mumbo, ilmango, etc....Purplers did a great job highlighting this niche of minecraft creators and hopefully they get a lot more recognition for their contributions to this game and community.
Highly informative (especially for someone who knows next to nothing about redstone like me) but also very entertaining to watch. The wait was so worth it. What an absolute chad...
Your voice is incredible
Also 10/10 editing and analysis 👌
Heckin Knarf sighting!?
Do people forget Etho and SethBling exist. Many people can be good
I think part of it is Etho just makes what is fun to him, he doesn't build doors or fully working computers or anything that really fits a competitive category.
@@jasonreed7522 Sethbling was computational, he once made mario in minecraft and various other things however, as far as I can tell he no longer plays minecraft often focusing more on other projects instead
Thank you for this video. It helps a lot with getting to know the redstone community and the writing & editing is great!
i dont really understand redstone, i mean like at all, but i stumbled upon your channel from the redstone thieves vid. and omg i cannot say how entertained i am watching your videos! all those edits, witts, and time you put is just!!!! i hope you reach 100k before that date because you really deserve it!
I love ilmangos style. He is very good at farm optimizing. And his new slime farm video. Its insane asf.
Mumbo's biggest strength is making his builds accessible for people to learn on their own, which is why he's one of my favorites bc I learned from him
mumbo makes junkstone
Loved the editing on this! You are a way bigger nerd than I am if you can create a pie chart like that!
Sammyuri in 2069: building a Redstone computer in minecraft on my Redstone computer that can run minecraft
High quality! Very informative, probably not so wrong and fun to watch at the same time 👍
4:50 THANK YOU! I needed that bro. You're now the best redstoner. Just for saying that.
I think DocM deserves his own category: Game-breaking redstone
The thing about mumbo jumbo is that he typically makes redstone that a normal person would watch to the end. I know plenty of people that leave a video because it is too smart for them.
Great video sir! Entertaining and informative at the same time. Keep up the great content!!
Amazing to see the new quality of videos you're doing, well done man
This man deserves way more views and subs. The editing is top tier and the videos are very interesting. Keep it up Purplers!
2:08 “Or is it?” Vsauce music starts playing
Great editing. I subbed
That was very fun! Great editing and pacing!
i love this video :)) so many of my friends, i love making part of a community and seeing people i know being featured in channels i love. this is based.
Love how everyone have a different name but themselves, they were soo humble
Super fun and well put together video! Enjoyed hearing what the community thinks!
I feel like 540 is standard especially after 2020 since 540s are much more common than 576s (with obs) in build logs
I like the part where Purplers said 'it's redston'in time' and redstoned everything😊
love this look into the redstoners ranking. to me, redstoning is an art, and you can't say there's an artist that beats others hands down. can't say monet is better than van gogh as a painter. they might've pioneered some things, but in the end, they all create their own unique style of their art. and we're extremely grateful to them for it. btw, here's a sub. :D
5:08 I just felt gamers react vibes when I heard that song
Great video! Though one person who I think deserves to get at least an honorable mention is tango. No one can discredit decked out 1 or 2.
Thank you for the shoutout, but I'm a little disappointed, I thought you were talking a little more about my latest project in your video, (the 12x12 door) we only see it for two seconds.. It's a shame because it would have me made a little more known and my creations would have had a little more recognition ):
Because most people do not understand the difficulty of my work and the time it takes to do.. unfortunately changing mentalities is difficult... in any case thank you to those who support me because I know there are some. I really appreciate the support, it's an extra motivation..
When I tell people learning redstone is like doing a degree, this is what I mean.
sammy eating that redstone dust was cinematic perfection.
This was a really cool video, I loved the dedication to shouting out what do many different people are doing.
For the longest time I thought this would be a tournament battle and that this entire video was like, for some reason, the most intriguing forewords / contestant introductions I've ever seen
I was sitting here even sometimes going "YES I know that one!" and ready to get out the popcorn and everything for an epic redstone crossover show

The editing and humor in your videos is top tier. Shut up and take my subscription!
sethbling is an og and basically one of the first to make the most innovative and insane redstone builds
I'm so old, I still think Etho is the best :( I need to catch up with these redstoners
etho is a bit of a dinosaur. He was insane at redstone in like 2012-2014, and it's not like he's gotten any worse, but alot of other people got way better while etho stagnated and focused on other things.
Just because of practical reasons, I personally like ianxofour and his farms. They are easy and quick to build and are often really good (it's not super complicated, it's just smart).
The fact his farms are so simple actually makes him the worst redstoner 😂. The most advanced red stone I’ve seen is a etho hopper clock with 5 lines of red stone. But he is the undisputed GOAT of simple farms.
