For all you people out there saying that the problem is simply bad batteries-that is not the case! Listen to other recordings of 2001s with bad batteries and then compare them to this one. The pitch on those 2001s (such as the Roundback in Fostoria or plenty of SJC sirens). seems extremely weak and drops a lot. This one doesn't sound exactly like that. Yes, it is extremely low pitched for a 2001, but the pitch remains relatively steady in till the end of the cycle. My best guess is a dying chopper motor. (Which is rare with 2001s but I'm sure can happen, especially considering its in Clyde, OH.). By the time Attack started, the motor was so worn down from the Alert that it just quit running. Don't quote me on this though because I'm not by any means an expert on these things, but that's just my two cents
it depends how low the batteries are, iff they don't have the amperage to operate the chopper, it will just rotate and not do anything more. Thats what happens when the battery are completely near flat.
the rotator was going insanely slow too. and i don't think the chopper motor died. i think probably the AF timer gave out after the first attack cycle. and i think it is the batteries. i've had a handheld fan that had almost dead batteries and was going very slow, but it retained it's speed pretty well. it's fair to say that because everything on that siren was running slower than it should that it needs new batteries. i was also thinking the siren was supposed to be only running on power from the grid until the power goes out. then the batteries would kick in until the power comes back on again and recharges them. kind of like a game boy advance sp or nintendo ds lite. it can run and use power from the grid while it is charging up, and when you unplug it, the batteries take over until you plug it in again. tornado sirens should have the same kind of rig.

Silas McGee no it’s definitely the batteries. When it starts to wind up quickly the rotator motor stops because the chopper motor is using all the power from the batteries to wind up
Chopper didn't have enough power to sound for the attack signal but the rotator did. It's actually going at about normal speed for attack. Best guess here is a dead battery.
