Hello, Thanks for posting this video of my siren. I am the Lake County Telecommunications Sr. Radio Technician responsible for maintaining this one along with the 49 others in the West side of Lake County. I already put in a call to have the back/top ordered so I can get a bucket truck and replace it since it cannot be found. I walked the entire area and could not find it. I guess some scrapper took it to the scrap yard and got a quarter for it.
That is pretty neat to see its guts inside. Its incredible how fast the chopper gets up to speed in an instant. You can see the cylinder that appears to be from the original Thunderbolt design in which they re used on the 2001.
I always thought the 2001 had an interesting design with the chopper drawing air through the back box with its motor housed within the "nose". That has to be a real stiff box side to be able to cantilever a chopper, stator, and motor from it! From another video of a privately-owned 2001, the chopper looks very similar to that of my Model 5. Does anyone know if the chopper is the same size? Without the cover I'd think the rotator guts would be swimming all the time! LOL
Has a replacement back panel been found for this siren and if not why not go with a higher decibel 2001-130 which comes already sealed at all ends and I thought all generations of 2001s came with factory sealed motors so stuff like this does not happen although it is very cool to see the inner workings of a 2001 in action during a test you don't get to see that often
If 2001s are louder without the Back Cover, I think Federal Signal should make a 2001 with an Intake sticking out of the Back or have lots of Holes on the back of the Siren for more Air to come in.
@@sirensofneohio3979 That's unique! I don't think any 2001 model or unit ever had their back panels off and the back showing before, it took me long enough to find the inner workings of Thunderbolts with the different blowers and with our without Solenoids. But I've searched RUclips including channels of users who own them and couldn't find any videos of them taking one apart that needed maintenence for how newer and modern the 2001s are compared to the Thunderbolts from the mid 1900s. There's people who've taken apart Whelens on this darn platform! But I've never seen the back workings of any 2001 unit. That's what makes this video a great catch overall! Because of how rare it is to find videos like this.
I wonder what would happen if you attached it to a blower, and sealed the intake holes. These things have a hole for a blower pipe, since they use the same rotator as a C-series bolt. SRNB rotators have a hole for a blower as well.
Here is just a random 2001 joke i made that fits Perfect with this video. That one perfect 2001: imagine being that guy. The upside down cone 2001: at least im not like him. The no horn 2001: at least im not like him. The 2001 in this video: y u bully me
Holy camera lag Batman. I thought I’d at least be able to see the chopper spinning but I can’t see it at all throughout the entire video. Not even in the BTS
At a few points it looks like the rotation is very choppy. My eyes also aren’t all that fantastic due to an incident with a Laser when I was 4 or 5, so that might have something to do with it.
Blue Thunderbolt 1003 It’s possible, but that area hardly ever gets hit wit storms. Lake County has the least severe weather in NE Ohio according to a study done by the NWS a few years ago.

Mark Cummins Awesome! I looked all over for it too. I assumed someone took it as well.
Mark Cummins where can I order parts. Like which website. I'm looking to order parts or a whole siren. Even if it's expensive.
@@RCMGUY you have to email federal signal
@@linksmokes420 oh okay.
@@sirensofneohio3979 at least you can see the chopper on the back
A while back I got into a huge argument with a kiddie who thought that 2001s were electronic sirens...I’d like to show him this video
if someone thought a 2001 was an electronic siren they must be mentally challenged
@@rock-afire-fan, 2001 sirens look like speaker sirens, that must be why.
@@calumbrooknicolson Yeah, but if u look inside the cone from the front if some 2001’s, u can see the chopper rotating
Electric speaker sirens don’t have the wind up and down that these sirens do. In my opinion that is what makes them awesome!
Before I knew about electromechanical/electronic sirens, I had wondered why the nose cone was so large.
That is pretty neat to see its guts inside. Its incredible how fast the chopper gets up to speed in an instant. You can see the cylinder that appears to be from the original Thunderbolt design in which they re used on the 2001.
I litterally searched what a 2001 looks like without the cover and this vid popped up I’m not disappointed in the slightest
I always wondered how it got air, but now I know that's the air vents underneath the chopper.
never seen a 2001 with no back on it
SirenTube why would a car part go all the way up there
@@Rollerroadster It might be installed on a busy street but I was wondering the same thing.
What siren map is that? I can never find a good one
I was thinking there would be a sound difference with the cover off but I guess not.
Siren1000T I was too. I was expecting it to be high pitched.
I would think there would of been a noticable reduction in sound output with the chopper exposed like that
May I use a part of this clip in a video compilation? Your video will be linked in the description box of my video.

@Not Sure How Loud This Can Get. Its an air-intake box not backbox
All models from the 2001 series use the chopper from the model 3, which is a little smaller than the Model 5.
@@szsirensofmnYes the "C2 1/2" rotor (model 3) is 15in. Pretty sure the C3 1/2 model 5 rotor was 18in.
Nice video.
Did u report this siren to fs cause if it sounded off with a bird on the chopper the bird would be X_X and so would the siren

2001: Why do I feel a draft?
I don’t think there’s a video of a 2001 without it’s entire cover. This one just has no back
Holy crap this was already a year ago O_O Time flies....
What happened to the back?
Siren kiddies be like: WhErE tHe HeLl Is ThE mOtEr??
YES!! FINALLY!! I FINALLY KNOW THE INSIDE WORKINGS OF A 2001 DC!!
Is that cylinder looking part the motor? And does it have brushes?
The motor is located inside the cone on the front part. And it’s a 2001-SRN 😉

It does work! lol great vid
Thats New also Perry s 3016 is still active? Becouse i heard there all gone as of 2018

Some idiot was probably doing maintenance and forgot to put the cover on or something. Cool video!

4 for the collector rings and 2 for each motor?
@@Snowcube yes
Why there's a motor on the back of the siren great job dude amazing
Damm you can see the chopper
That motor is not the motor, the motor is in the horn.
Yes I’m aware
What kind of map is that
it was my own personal map; however, a computer update deleted it
DA BACK IS NAKED
When you realize that the inside is literally a Thunderbolt without the chopper...

They built a box around it and glued a motor to the front.
I threw my back out
lol
Comedian
funny
Lol
I'd be surprised if this SRN did 130 dB at 100 ft having it's cover removed for more air flow like how a 130 has a bigger housing for more air flow.
Yeah it was actually pretty loud!
@@sirensofneohio3979 Sounded loud for sure.
So that explains why 2001-130’s were manufactured. I just thought they invented it cuz larger chopper housings looked cool🤷🏼♂️ lol 😂
It's a new trend called an open concept siren
WARNINGSIRENSOFMICHIO I would call it open hood

Guys the siren got surgery
the anatomy of a 2001
Imagine having those for epidemic warnings.
Cool the chopper

So, they're actually modified Thunderbolts?
ya

How ironic that they put a “If You Hear A Siren” label that has a Whelen WPS- 3016 on a Federal Signal siren 😂
This replaced a WPS-3000 back in 1999
