It shows you different ways the elastics are worn for different problems. This includes for when the top teeth stick forwards (Class II problem), the booth teeth stick forwards (Class III problem) and even when the centre lines do not match.
Elastics can be the most important part of your treatment and excellent compliance is essential. You must wear your elastics exactly as prescribed by your orthodontist. If you don't your treatment could take a lot longer.
Normally your orthodontist will ask you to wear the elastics full-time or night-time.
Full-time wear mean you should be wearing your elastics in the day and night, unless you are eating, brushing your teeth or taking part in an activity that requires a mouthguard.
Night time wear means you wear the elastics as sleep every night.

@@basmamohsin3036 my centerline was corrected within 6 weeks, like from previous appointment to the next appointment. My centerline was bad, like they went off for almost a distance of a tooth. I made sure to always wear the elastic band like the last footage, except during eating & brushing. I'm on damon braces though

Love your videos! Back in the early 1970s I had full mouth braces. I had a palatal expander. I also had the “lovely and seemingly huge” springs. They ran from max to posterior on both sides. They were fixed and not very fun!!! I’m so happy with all of the advances in dental orthodontics! I encourage people I know to look into ortho at any age. I think it was advertising them.... it was in November, and i thought it was for hallowe'en..... they also have a bowl of tiny tubes of toothpaste, and a recommended toothbrush selection, not all electrical

in two months i get braces! i have an overbite but its not thqat bad. ive been worrying about my elastics for them, so this video really helped! thank you.
I am currently wearing class 2 elastics one one side and does it need to connect to a bracket in the back or a hook?
I started off with an open bite and after half a year in braces and getting a lot of teeth extracted just yesterday my ortho gave me a power chain and elastics and I couldn’t be happier! I can’t wait to see the real change in my teeth. My open bite is already almost completely gone so now we’re focused on fixing my over bite and closing the spaces where I got my teeth pulled! :) right now I have a diagonal elastic on my right side of my mouth for the over bite and a triangle shaped one on the left.
did the elastic pull your upper teeth backward? cause i have the same situation, open bite then become overbite but i hate that i now look like i have mouth piece. I hope to move my upper teeth backward 😫

I have the last case. My orthodontist told be to only wear the elastics at night! It really hurts and it's hard to sleep. When I take them off in the morning my jaw feels so sore!!!
I got elastics today as well as a stronger wire on my braces since I have an overjet, and it hurts so bad! Even idroprofin doesn't do much at this point, and all I ate for dinner was literally yogurt. As I am writing this, I just feel pain. I hope the smile is worth it!
I wear rubber bands and I have ever since I have had braces and I have only had them one way which is the one with the overdrive where you hook them to the top canine and the lower molar because I have a very bad over bite but not really in overjet

Very informative! I was trying to understand why and how they work since I just started wearing elastics with my Invisalign. Thought it was strange at first since everyone else I've seen wear Invisalign hasn't had to have elastics.
Question: My Ortho told me I've got pretty good spacing on my left side as I'm on tray 15/49 and I'd be okay to start elastics on just 1 side. I do have an overbite, but what does wearing elastics on 1 side do? Wouldn't it lead to improper alignment of the jaw? Eventually I will have them on both sides, but at least for the next 2 months I'll be wearing elastics only on the left side.
Hi Shane, glad you found this video useful! Thanks for your comment, unilateral elastic wear may have been used in your case to correct the centrelines, or an issue with the bite. It isn't uncommon, so don't worry. You can always ask your ortho next visit, they'll normally answer happily. (ps. don't forget to subscribe if you haven't already :) )

Everyone wears them in different ways for different reasons. I am currently wearing them at the sides (they're visible!), and I will have to wear them on the front for a different reason.
I know right, I'm getting my braces in a few months, thank goodness I on't have to wear the elastics in the front, it looks like a vampire fang when someone is talking

My Invisalign treatment was almost finished but my orthodontist cut off the ends of my tray in order to align my front teeth. He didn’t say if I should keep wearing my rubber bands or not. I figured I should still wear them but the problem is that once I started wearing my elastics again, some of my teeth are rotating back to where they used to be and now they are not properly aligned. Was I not supposed to wear my elastics?
This is my story: my bottom jaw isnt big enough to have a normal bite so my 2 top teeth are curved in a little bit down the bottom for my teeth to touch. I also have teeth growing from the top of my gums so I need to get 2 teeth pulled out and need braces 2nd december this year and will most likely need elastics and Im getting traditional metal braces and are gonna get coloured bands. Tysm for reading! Please reply or like if you have the same/similar/know someone who has the same or similiar problem to me. Wish me luck for getting braces in about 2 months!

I have invisalign and I also have a middle Iine discrepancy but my orthodontist said it cannot be fixed while in the beginning he confirmed to me that my bite will be fixed with invisalign. He never mention the elastics or rubber bands before or even tried them on me to see if they will work. What is suggestions for me. Do I ask for rubber bands to try fix ny bite?

Possibly, difficult to say without doing an assessment. I would advise a consultation with an Orthodontist if you are concerned 👍

omg i dreamed this years ago as a kid braces just looked like you could hook bands onto them
please answer me I got my elastic bands today and I took them out now I've forgotten how to put them back on I had 4 elastics 2 on each side of my mouth, one elastic was from the inside of my mouth ( as in rests on my tongue the bracket and the elastic) connecting to the outer side and one was from the top second last outer to the bottom I think. is it okay if I dont wear them for today and maybe call my orthodontist and ask them or go there or do you maybe know
Better to wait to ask your orthodontist how to wear them correctly as wearing them incorrectly can reverse what they are meant to do. Good luck 👍😀

I have braces but my orthodontist is more concerned about the bite while I have expressed that the midline is off & would like it corrected she doesn’t seem to care much about that! That is the main reason I got braces to fix my midline

Hi, thanks for your comment Ha Le, each case is different, but it is not uncommon to only wear elastics at night in some cases. Their effect can be more than you think they will be 😀🙌
Hi Doc, I have a Crossbite and the doc put power chains on my upper jaw in February but my Incisors and canines are still overlapping, so am wondering if am I gonna get em?

@@SarahSadek1 I went to check up last month and I heard him telling his assistant that crossbite of the jaw needs elastic and crossbite of the teeth can be straightened without elastics, so it seems as if mine doesn't require elastic but still I don't see any changes cause my lower jaw is straight only left with my upper one. Another question, the reason that made him to put power chains on my upper jaw was because of the diastema . I had it for 3 months from Feb to May, last month he didn't put it back and now the diastema is back, why is that?

im almost at the end of my braces treatment. my lower midline is not centered, i really hate it! my doctor told me that my bite is good now and the lower midline isnt really an issue. if i want to fix it, the only option is she will have to shave a tooth to make it move and align with the upper midline. i dont want to shave a healthy tooth so i agreed to leave it as is. after watching some videos now i know that it can fixed with elastics! urghh luckily i havent debraced. im going to be very fussy and talk to her about using the elastics to fix it

Elastics can sometimes have a limit to how much change they can achieve.

Hi Natalie, it sounds as though you have a bit of gum inflammation, you may need to brush this area better for it to go down, and mention it to your orthodontist at your next visit. Do you have another appointment booked? 🙌
