I'm looking forward to seeing the GT4 Bilstein BMW no. 150 of Jimmy Broadbent and Steve Alvarez Brown because I've been following Jimmy since he was a youtube sim racer living in a shed at the back of his mother's garden.

Yes that‘s definitely cool, but I really miss when the 24h where a real race for every type of car like it was in the past.
Everyone with their private little touring car could attend the race.
Nowadays there’s only professional teams left, which is truly sad.
Or remember the glory days from the 60s to the 80s when prototypes still ran on the track!
Nowadays its just the worst of both versions, we either need to introduce prototypes again or make it amateur friendly again!

What makes it even more special, is the fact it basically is a stand alone race, it's not connected to any championship at all, and no one needs an invite to join, usually DTM and NLS teams are regularly present, alongside many GTWC EU teams and drivers
And last it comes the primary reason to watch it: THE DACIA LOGAN!

Good video. The only one that would've been cool if you had mentioned it would've been that the growing presence of GT3 cars is actually a bit controversial. The race is also unique because of the many small teams with modified cars in the smaller classes. Also, if you are a young engineer in Germany, it is a great place to farm contacts, even if you are just washing the car.

It may be better considered "unnoticed". Up until this year, it was not part of a major racing series like LeMans and, Daytona. Now in 2024 for the first time, it will be part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, just as the 24 Hours of Spa has been for years. Though there are drivers who participate in WEC, IMSA and GTWC here, there were few if any teams from GTWC until this year and none from the others. The NLS, which runs the race, has seen as a German based race, with a huge amount of the cars from German makes and teams. I never knew the race existed until 2020 and I follow all the major series. We may see the profile raised as the coming years go on.

In Germany or let’s say the German racing bubble it’s the biggest race of the year with over 200.000 live spectators on raceday alone.

To be a bit more precise: No entry has to run the qualification races, because it's more a preparation race for all sides. For teams and drivers it's the only chance to prepare on the special 24 hours track layout (Nordschleife + GP Circuit without AMG Arena; side note: the complete AMG Arena is getting part of the paddock) and systems like tv broadcasting and so on are tested.

Good Video, but you should've mentioned the weather aspect. In the Eifel, the region where the Nordschleife is located, weather can change extremely fast and often unpredictability. There were cases in which it rained on one part of the track while being sunny and perfect conditions on another part, which makes it almost impossible to choose the right tire. 2016 it even started to snow, so the cars went into the barrier one after another. Fog is very common as well.

I think this race's most important class aside the GT3 (SP9) class, is the SP1 to SP3 classes, or the low displacement production-modified cars. AKA the 2 Corollas, the Logan and the Manta foxtail.
This is where you ask yourself: "How in the world there's a car like the one on my garage competes against a Ferrari 296 IN THE SAME RACE?!"

  • @bjoerndn2
    @bjoerndn2 7 месяцев назад +2

Good video. I like that you cover this prestigious event.
One thing. There are still qualifyings at Thursday and Friday bevor the race. The Qualirace is to lock a place for a place in the top30 qualifing. Top30 is on Friday and sets the grid.
But not every top30 place was decided by the qualirace. 10 or so I think. The others can qualify for the top30 quali on Thursday and Friday.
It sounds a lot more complicate than it actually is 😅
And the top30 cars will get a blue flashing lumirank so the other cars can see that a really fast car is coming :D

I just love the 24h Nürburgring. It's unpedictable is just unlike anything else. I watched my first race in 2020 (I am certain we all know what happened then). I was prepared to make it through the night, instead I had comfortable 7 hours sleep and still had time left to have breakfast before we got back to racing again. We got the most magical race track on this planet (sorry Circuit de Sathe) and even when watching it on TV you can just feel the festival athmosphere... it's truely unlike anything else, we all know it. And that's why we love it!

Great Video, the best race all around the world🤩 But Qualifying isnt weeks before. The "Qualifyers" are the races that happened in April, but those are like test sessions. The results have nothing to do with the actual 24h Race. The "Top Qualifying" is on Friday evening, the day before 24h Race gets underway. This is a timed Qualifying where every qualified car has two laps to set a lap as fast as possible to get Pole Position😅

0:58: As will probably seen as the video goes on, in addition to the difficulties of the circuit itself, the amount of traffic (there could be 160 cars starting the race) and the enormous disparity in speeds ( in car cameras of the top GT3 show the frightening amount of closing speeds to slower classes such as touring cars) makes it a more challenging test of the cars and drivers than the 24 Hours of LeMans.

And as cool as it is to see such a variety of production cars battle it out on The Green Hell, part of me really wants to see what an LMP3 can do. The Ligier JSP3 and the Nurburgring 24h layout is my favorite car and track combo in Project CARS 2. Ever gone flat-out from the exit of Hocheichen, through Flugplatz and Schwedenkreuz to Aremberg? Or from Bergwerk all the way to the Steilstrecke hairpin? You can in an LMP3! And though I’ve only done it virtually, I can tell you it’s a blast!

Fun fact: the Chrysler Viper was so dominant the Germans decided to give it a 1 hour penalty
It would go on to win
This is also not the only incident of unfairly banning or penalizing non German cars.

    • @Maenfy
      @Maenfy 7 месяцев назад +3

Well it's not that easy actually. The Chrysler Viper won in '99, '01 & '02. For 2003 they weren't allowed to use their whole 120L tank anymore. The team then decided to rebrand the car as a "Dodge Viper" and kept on fueling 120L every stop.
First they wanted to punish the car by giving it a 60 minute stop & go, that never happened though. Instead they got a 5 lap penalty, just before the race finished they got another 5 lap reduction. Without these penalties the Viper would have won, 2003 was officially an Opel victory though.

Jonah I personally like the 24h of nurburgring because it is not part of any championship unlike other big races like the indy 500 or the 1000 km of bathurst among others. Obviously the main objective is still to win races but it usually happens that in certain occasions they prioritize more the championship to try to win it at the end of the year. And that is what in my opinion makes the 24h of nurburgring different no points on the line no championships sonarios just a pure 24 hours battle for the top steep of the poduim and nothing else

Also it can seem having an iconic race as part of a championship can make itseem less benevolent than it is, just a longer round with more points to grab.
But at the same time there is always an air of prestige at races like Daytona, spa and Le mans. Every driver wants to win it in their respective classes at least once(more than if they can help it) these types of races always stand out because of the pedigree they hold.

  • @williamford9564
    @williamford9564 7 месяцев назад +1

A truly unique factor in the 24 and all of the NLS League series races are the slow zone ( yellow flag and Code 60, standing for 60 kilometer speed limit) and intervention vehicle procedures in the races. With the enormous size of the fields and the length of the track, there are numerous instances of cars stalling or breaking down, wrecking or moving slowly due to things such as suspension failures or punctures. Barrier repairs are needed often also ( and LOL, unlike WEC and F1, barrier repairs do NOT red flag a race). There may be several Code 60 zones simultaneously over the 15 mile track and after the opening couple of laps, it may be a rare time when a driver gets more than three full green flag laps at any time. There also intervention vehicles such as tow trucks, equipment vehicles and even medical vehicles on the track running in full green flag areas which I don't understand how can be allowed, but I guess the NLS knows what they are doing. I have seen in car cameras of GT3s going 150 MPH plus past a moving intervention vehicle on the road.

Since Le Mans is already a very long track, when they deploy the Safety Car, I know there are actually 3 of them that divide the field into 3 separate packs. Doing so on a track that is double the length looks even more insane. Do they even have SC in Nurburgring or are slow zones the entirety of safety measures ?

    • @Maenfy
      @Maenfy 7 месяцев назад +1

@@falinestixiaolong9691There is an SC but it doesn't get used if not really necessary. That means either the start or a restart after a red flag. Everything else is done with slow zones.

That's why you need a special, track specific, race license to compete in the 24H, which includes passing a classroom test, and racing at least twice in the Qualifying races (4H races prior to the 24H), to demonstrate that you know the race procedures and are capable of racing the 24H safely. I think its a little bit sad that you skimmed over the lower classes, yes the GT3s are beyond amazing to watch, but the reason why i find this race so cool is all the other cars you can see. Some of them can be quite outlandish, like the Dacia Logan, or the new VW Beetle. Its also a really nice race because it isn't part of any major championship (other than the ICGTC, which doesn't really count tbh). It just allows for all the cars to be driven to the absolute limit by driver lineups that are often just unheard of.

Great video but you made one mistake. The qualifying races you mentioned do not determine pole position. On the day before the race there will be a qualifying session where the top cars get two laps each. The qualifying races are just a chance for the teams to qualify for this so called Top Qualifying. During this week there will be a number of qualifying sessions where the teams get another chance to qualify for the Top Qualifying. You made it sound like pole position has already been determined, which is not the case. That will happen this friday.

The race will start next saturday. 1st if June. Qualifying format is different as explained here. There will be a an english stream here at youtube. In fact, every session will be streamed. Just search for the offical 24h RUclips account here. There will be a few normal qualifying sessions. But the 24h qualifers race a few weeks earlier has nothing to do with the acutal grid position. Its more like a test drive for everybody. Top 30 Qualifying iis like a super pole format where you need to quailfy for during the actual event or due good results over the last races. But thats only for getting a spot in the Top30. For the acutal grid position you need to fight there. P31 to P130 will be set during the normal runs before.

Starting order for the race will be set during the race weekend.
There are several sessions on Thursday and Friday officially designated "qualifying", totaling a combined 6,5 hours. But these sessions double up as free practice, and most teams primarily treat them as practice. It's just that your fastest time in those sessions also determines your starting spot if you are not within the 35 cars participating in "Top Qualifying".
"Top Qualifying" is an extra event that takes place on Friday evening. It consists of 2 sessions (TQ1 and TQ2) with 20 participants each.
The cars will be sent out on track at 20 second intervals. They do one warm up lap around the track and then either one or 2 timed laps. (It's up to them whether they want to do a second lap or not). Fastest lap counts.
15 participants for TQ2 are already locked in due to the results of the "Qualifier Race" that took place several weeks ago.
TQ1 will be made up of the 20 fastest cars from regular qualifying, which are not already locked into TQ2.
The 5 fastest cars from TQ1 will advance to TQ2, to complete the field of 20 cars for that session.
The result of TQ2 will set the first 20 positions on the grid.
The result of TQ1 will set positions 21 through 35.
Regular qualifying will set positions 36 and beyond.

i don't understand something, what is the difference between nurburgring (track) and the nordschleife (layout)

    • @gchampi2
      @gchampi2 7 месяцев назад

Technically, the Nurburgring is the combination of the Nordschleife (the long one) and the Grand Prix Circuit (the F1 track). That's the full 'Ring, as used for the 24H.
The Nordschleife on it's own is the layout more commonly used as a test track - when a car sets a time at the "Nurburgring", it's the Nordschleife that is being talked about.
The Grand Prix Circuit is the layout that is most commonly raced on. It's the one familiar to F1 fans, and is used by most racing series when they go to the Nurburgring.
Confusingly, all three layouts are referred to as "The Nurburgring", when only the full combined layout should be referred to as such, with the other layouts being the Nurburgring Nordschleife and Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit. It's actually possible for there to be separate races being held on the Nordschleife and Grand Prix Circuit simultaneously, although (AFAIK) that doesn't happen in practice...

can u explain how quali works

    • @gchampi2
      @gchampi2 7 месяцев назад

There are layers to qualifying for the N24H race. The first layer are the Qualifying Races. These are a series of 4 hour races which are mainly to prove to the organizers that both the teams and drivers know the race procedures (slow zones, intervention vehicles, etc) and are safe to be allowed into the 24H race. As a driver, you need to race in a couple of these and pass a classroom test to earn your 'Ring License. No Ring License, no N24H race. As a team, you need to demonstrate that you can operate in the very specific circumstances of the N24, sharing a pit with multiple cars, refueling safely, etc. These qualifying races show if a driver or team should be allowed in to the 24H, but otherwise have no effect on the starting order.
Then there is the N24H qualifying sessions. These are where most of the qualifying order is set. Each car goes out to set a time, fastest time qualifies first, slowest last - simple. Except, each driver also has to qualify as well, with a requirement to do a set number of laps, and if you're a first time driver, a requirement to do a night session as well. Fail to do your minimum laps or do something stupid, and your Ring License can be cancelled. For the bulk of the field, these qualifying sessions set their position in the starting order.
For the 30 fastest cars, there is Top 30 qualifying, which is exactly what it sounds like. The top 30 get a specific session where they are the only cars on track (as opposed to 150+ cars on track) and get to go as fast as they can to set their position in the starting order. These laps are FAST, as much as a minute faster than laps set in the general sessions, as the fast cars are not getting held up behind slower cars, and are able to give their all. Top 30 qualifying is usually where the fastest times of the entire event are made...
Of course, as a 24 hour race, qualifying position isn't really all that important, as you have time to work your way up the order, either by passing competitors, or by competitors dropping out (crashes, mechanical failures, etc)...

I know this isn’t related to the N24, but let me just lay in front of you my WEC grid and calendar fantasy daydream delusion…
Imagine a Hypercar grid for 2025 featuring:
    2 Porsche Penske 963’s
    2 Toyota Gazoo GR010’s
    2 Scuderia Ferrari 499P’s
    2 TE Peugeot 9x8’s
    2 WRT BMW M Hybrid V8’s
    2 Alpine A424’s
    2 Hertz Team Jota 963’s
    Now let’s get hypothetical…
2 (Whelen Engineering/Action Express?) Cadillac V-Series.R’s (both in red)
    2 (D’Station?) Honda Badged ARX-06’s
    2 Lamborghini SC63’s (Iron Lynx & Dames?)
2 💚 of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie’s (Not just 1 like planned)
2 Customer Ferrari 499P’s (AF Corse & Richard Mille?)
2 Proton Competition 963’s (F.A.T. & Rothmans or Pink Pig since tobacco nono?)
    Now let’s get DELUSIONAL🤯…
2 Isotta Fraschini Tipo6-C’s (Why not)
2 (Andretti?) Cadillac V-Series.R’s (because more to thundering V8’s, yellow and blue?)
2 Glickenhaus SCG 007 Evo’s (Pyramid scheme sponsor or Jim Glickenhaus wins the lottery and can upgrade those beauties to have a proper hybrid system)
2 Vanwall Vandervell 680 Evo’s (honestly same thing as Glickenhaus pls… Someone hook Floyd up with like a hundred mil🙏)
2 McLaren LMDh/LMH’s (Speedtail or better yet the Solus GT?) - i’ve gone insane but i wouldn’t put it past Zak Brown (imagine an F1 + Indy formed driver lineup for Le Mans)
    Now let’s get UNHINGED👽…
2 Audi LMDh/LMH’s (Totally not happening because of their F1 venture) - UNLESS…
2 Mercedes AMG LMDh/LMH’s (AMG One?) - they’re looking cooked in F1 rn so why not
    Finally, let’s be perfectly reasonable…
1 Overhauled Dacia Logan Hypercar Entry
That’s a 40 car Hypercar field, Most tracks couldn’t even accommodate that many cars across both Hypercar and LMGT3, not to mention LMP2 if it were to make a return.
So let’s get hypothetical again and imagine that each of these tracks had the resources to expand the pit and grid infrastructure to form this lovely calendar and grid of like 40 Hypercars, say like 30-50 LMGT3’s, and on a good day maybe like 25-40 LMP2’s:
    Round 1 - Qatar 1812km - 1.5x Points
    Round 2 - 8h of Bahrain - 1.5x Points
    Round 3 - 6h of COTA - 1x Points
    Round 4 - 1000m of Sebring - 1.5x Points
    Round 5 - 6h of São Paulo - 1x Points
    Round 6 - 6h of Portimão - 1x Points
    Round 7 - 6h of Silverstone - 1x Points
    Round 8 - 6h of Spa - 1x Points
    Round 9 - 24h of Le Mans - 2x Points
    -Summer Break-
    Round 10 - 6h of Paul Ricard - 1x Points
    Round 11 - 6h of Barcelona - 1x Points
    Round 12 - 6h of Monza - 1x Points
    Round 13 - 6h of Nürburgring - 1x Points
    Round 14 - 8h of Kylami - 1.5x Points
    Round 15 - 6h of Shanghai - 1x Points
    Round 16 - 6h of Sepang
    Round 17 - 6h of Fuji - 1x Points
I know 17 races for WEC is absurd so here’s even more…
Honorable Mentions/Would be sick but never happening:
    12h of Bathurst - 1.5x Points
    24h of Nürburgring Nordshleife - 2x Points
    12h of Daytona - 1.5x Points
    12h of IMS - 1.5x Points
    6h of Spielberg/RedBullRing - 1x Points
    12h of Hockenheim - 1.5x Points
    6h of India (Buddh) - 1x Points
    6h of Suzuka - 1x Points
    6x of Korea (KIC) - 1x Points
    8h of Macau 😈 - 1.5x Points
6h of Laguna Seca (home track bias) - 1x Points
Top Gear Test Track 2002km - Give Clarkson a beer every 100km and at the end hold up your fingers, however many he counts is the points multiplier.🍻🍻🍺🍺
Alternative: However many beers he can down in the duration of the Pole lap is the points multiplier, personally I think the 1st option provides more fun and potential for a championship swing.

No mention of the weather? With the 'Ring being so large, the weather at the pits can be entirely different to other parts of the track.
No mention of "Slow Zones" and the lack of Safety Cars?
No mention of the "Ring License" process?
Hell, no mention of the Legend that is THE FOXTAIL MANTA!?!?!

The first half of the script sounds it was AI generated and read.

I didn’t use any scripts. I don’t use scripts for my videos unless it’s for a trailer.

A little thing of improvement, you repeat a lot of things, making it sound like an AI generated video. I genuinely can’t tell if it is.

I’ll keep an eye on that for the future. Not AI generated, and no script for this video.

@@FormulaJonah might be an idea that while recording, you also run a speech to text tool so you can read it, and then check if you say the same things multiple times, then adjust and use the script for the final edit?
