Hi Sweet Friends, Today I am sharing How to Cook a Whole Chicken in the Instant Pot - The RIGHT WAY! I called the manufacturer and learned so many tips that I want to share with you. I was even able to get a delightfully tasty crust on the chicken skin! And you can learn how to make Chicken Bone Broth - the right way - in the Instant Pot here: ruclips.net/video/Wx8Hoo3vXkU/видео.html Love, Mary
@@sharyncrawford3419 - Hi Sharyn, Thanks for visiting! I do the natural release. I don't like how the steam pours out with the quick release. If you decide to do the quick release, I recommend using the handle of a wooden spoon to move the knob so as to be a bit of a distance away from the release valve to protect your hands and face. Love, Mary
Mary's Nest Thank you so much that is the way I decided to do it last night, it came out great with your recipe and method! Thank you so much! Subscribed and now a big fan!
Thanks so much for this video. I just brought my instant pot yesterday and making my chicken now. Also my daughter is out there by you in Cedar park!! 😊
She's a natural at what she does, putting forth such a calm confidence. I tell my Family that she's my "therapy" sister. One viewing & they see what I mean. 😊 Not to mention all the fantastic recipes and how-to's! Anything & everything homemade you"ve ever wanted to make, Mary has the way!
1.) You have the perfect disposition for a cooking show. I want to know you. 2.) Your voice is supremely relaxing! 3.) I love your kitchen! It reminds me of home. God bless. ❤️

This reminds me of cooking with my gramma when I was little. Her enthusiasm and the way she explained every detail. Love it! I’m using my instaPot for the first time today, with a whole chicken that I grew in my backyard.
@brandisweetwater3439 Have you tried hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot yet? The IP is like the pro hack for hard boiled eggs. Super easy and simple: 5 mins at high pressure plus 5 mins before unsealing, then fill the pot with cold water. Perfect every time. To make them super easy to peel, poke a hole in the top of each egg with a push pin or egg piercer before cooking. I make sweet pickled eggs every week using eggs I hard boil in the Instant Pot.
Mary always makes me smile as I watch. Her delight in cooking is just lovely. Someone asked me if we were related as we look very similar - only I think I’m shorter! Her information is invaluable and given in such a relatable way. She deserves her success as she has no gimmicks, no sensationalism, no weird clickbait, just good recipes and excellent content. Long may she continue. I may need to dye my hair though…..
Oh Mary you might be a little too sweet for me but I find your videos well thought out and don't take anything for granted with us Novices! You just might make me into loving to cook! Thanks!
One of the things I love about your channel is you don’t use a bunch of store bought cheats. I have to have fresh things. I am on a histamine resistance diet. I can’t have prepared foods. And my food can not sit in the fridge. I either freeze it right away or cook it, eat one meal and freeze the rest. Your so patient, love your style. ❤️

When I make chicken (usually wings) we always save the broth in the bottom. I also stick some diced up celery, carrots, onions and garlic in the bottom so that it will make the broth more flavorful. Just strain out the veggies in the end, then you can use it to make gravy or soup, or sometimes I use it instead of water to make rice

Feed the strained veggies to the omnivore in the house. My dogs would love it, but I used to have goats and ducks. I won't say give it to the chickens....doesn't seem right.
Howdy from Nashville. Just now made the recipe. It turned out beautiful, actually fell completely apart in the bowl! Lol, no knife needed. Love your channel. You have a beautiful voice and demeanor. Keep going, blessings
I subscribed as soon as I heard you called Instant Pot! I felt like I was sitting in a family member's kitchen. I loved how homey everything felt. Watching this made me think I could actually make it correctly. Great presentation! The pressure switch has always perplexed me as well. I am glad to hear i am not the only one.
I just love how you called the manufacturer to get all the information you needed. Love your channel and the chicken looks lovely, can't wait to try it myself. Thank you!
Hi Susana, Thank you!! Here is my playlist of Instant Pot recipes including How to Make Bone Broth so it Gels Every Time, How to Make Creamy Mac and Cheese, and More!: ruclips.net/p/PLkRuW3pBo2U21zBjMF6BwDEquDFKVjVsF I think you will like these videos. Love, Mary
Also a great tip that anyone who purchased or received a fancy cooking appliance as a gift can reach out to the official manufacturer with questions or advice. LOL I'm not employed by Betty Crocker or anyone. Just appreciate Mary pointing out how she did and it was a great place for information!
I've done dozens of chickens in my 6 qt Instant pot ultra - I've tried a number of ways of doing it, including cooking it at 450 in a toaster oven first, or after (The after makes a really crispy skin and only needs like 5 minutes). Thanks for the Video, to show some slightly different methods I can pick at in the coming meals.
My husband bought us an Instant Pot! We haven't used it yet. I bought 3 whole chickens on sale yesterday to roast so I can then make bone broth. My roaster will only hold 2 chickens, so I thought I would look up your video on roasting chicken for a refresher. Then I saw you have this one so watched it. I think I'll just do all three, one at a time and with different seasonings, in the Instant Pot! I'll vacuum seal and freeze some of the meat for later. I just really wanted to make bone broth. lol Thank you for encouraging your viewers! I think I can do this, thanks to you.
I have tried this way to cook a whole chicken and it worked perfectly! I just changed up the spice mix to Onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper and paprika. I was so please. I then used the bones to make 5 pints of broth that I canned to use later for soups. Awesome! Thank you so much!
This is my favorite appliance ever. I use it almost every night!! Check out boneless turkey roasts too- most tender white turkey meat I’ve ever had. And the broth makes an amazing gravy
What a brill cooking video! I learnt several things, firstly how to prepare a chicken, (extra tip about saving peelings), how much water to use, how to use the metal trivet, but for me the best tip was the info. regarding the vent, how to know where it should be, high for venting, lower is for sealing when cooking!

Mary, you have a fantastic way of explaining. So joyful watching you, I had a smile throughout the whole video. Off I go now, to cook my chicken in my new instant pot, for the first time. Thank you
Great recipe! I just cooked my third Instant Pot chicken, this one was 6.24 lbs. Since I don't have those handles on my rack to lift it out of the pot, all of the limbs fell of while lifting it out. It turned out good though. Thanks for sharing your culinary knowledge.
Mary, I was like you about the Chickens Crust, yes I could hear how crisp it was, (not a soggy skin). I was totally surprised also. Thanks for sharing.
Mary. I felt like you were talking to me. What a wonderful presentation and your enthusiasm was so refreshing. I'm waiting for my roast to be done and looking for my menu for next weekends dinners. Yours it is. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for a wonderful recipe . Your voice is so soothing!! I have an air fryer. I am thinking I could throw it in the air fryer for the last 5 minutes to crisp it up

Hi Sweet Mary, Thanks so much for your videos. I’ve learnt a lot but more importantly it’s so nice to listen to a friendly voice. Keep smiling, it’s very much appreciated. Thanks from Australia. ❤️🐨❤️
This is definitely your calling. I love to watch you and learn so much. You seem so sweet and genuine. Your voice is very pleasant and the video quality is excellent. I’m so glad I found you as I am on a mission to eat healthy now after eating pretty much 3 meals a day out. I have lost 24 pounds so far and it’s been a struggle to cook appetizing and not dried out meat since it has no fat and I’m not using oil right now. Thank you so much for your great video lessons!
7/7/23: Your chicken looks wonderful, Mary, and I ordered the 8 qt. Instant Pot an hour ago because of it and other recipes I've seen thus far. However, I would have loved to have seen how your chicken looked on the inside after you cut it (i.e., to see how juicy it turned out, etc.). And like you, I would definitely season my chicken before laying it down in the IP, but I'd use chicken broth instead of water (just a personal preference). If for some reason my chicken skin doesn't crisp up enough, I'll put it under the broiler for 2 mins. or so. Nevertheless, your demo was very thorough, and I can't wait to receive and try mine in many recipes. Thanks for sharing. It was fun & informative watching!
Hello again! I'm planning on making a Chinese steamed/Tea Smoked chicken soon. I came here for cooking times, and the 8minutes per pound may be a bit on the long side. My wok recipe suggests doing a dry rub, letting it sit for 4 hours, then steaming in a bamboo basket in the wok for 30 minutes. That is very close to, but less than, your 8minutes per pound, and at room pressure. The chicken is finished with hot smoke for 15 minutes, SO, I'll be giving my critter 5 minutes per pound in the Instant pot with at least a 5 minute natural release (that keeps the ceiling clean), and then follow up with the smoking. I'll let you know if we are eating succulent raw chicken, or a masterpiece.
3.75lb chicken. Coarse salt, szechuan pepper corns, scallions and ginger rub. Instant Pot, 6 minutes per lb (19 minutes, actually) using half water, half chicken broth and cinnamon stick for liquid, 5 minute rest and quick release. Tea smoking outside for 20 minutes. Moist, fantastic chicken, very chickeny white meat, full herbal tea flavor. I think 8 minutes would have killed everything. So once again, THANK YOU!
I just cooked my whole 5 pounds chicken, follow exact the instructions on the time per pound and water except the seasoning ( used goya mojo) and it came out so delicious , the tender is there better than any Kroger or Publix Chicken my family is really enjoying eating this chicken. So good.thank you

I made this today. The rub is delicious. I will make a big batch to have on hand. The chicken was very tender and not dry. The broth is out of this world. My skin did not get as dry as yours, was srill very moist/mushy but I crisped it up with my Mealthy crisplod and you would think this is a rotisserie chicken. Tx for the recipe.
Hi Lyly, So glad to hear that the chicken turned out great! That crisplid sounds like a great idea!! I have a few instant pot videos where I make broth, you make like them. I see this was posted 5 yrs. so don't know if you'll see this, but wondering if you did quick release or natural release. That could make a difference in allowing chicken to overcook, I'm thinking -- thanks for the pleasant video!
I have made this 3 times now. It comes out perfect every time! My son devours it, making chicken quesadillas is his favorite use for the chicken. It just falls off the bone. I saved the bones from my last chicken in the freezer. And I am going to make bone broth.
@@mimitran3327 The use of the paprika (and other red chili spices) was to color the skin, giving it a more appealing look than just boiled. The skin just will not crisp in the instant pot w/o an air fryer lid.
@@mimitran3327 depending on the amount of water in the chicken it will be sitting in too much water and boiling as it cooks. That's why the wings fell off in her recipe. No fault of hers or yours because it is recommended to add all of that water by the manufacturer. However I have learned to not add 1 cup of water to chicken because at least 1 cup will cook out due to the fact that water is added at the processing plants.
She is just fantastic .. she reminds me a person fron virgina that i meet in houston TX.. but the way she shares her recipe is glorious.. love it. Greetings from colombia south america.
Do this using Chinese 5 spice powder as the rub after coating the whole chicken in coconut oil. It is amazing. You can't use too much powder...get it completely coated with a thick coating. You can also do this in a clay pot in the oven...2 hours at 300 degrees F with the lid on. Take the lid off for the last 10 minutes. You need to add water up to the bottom of the rack for the clay pot method. You can also toss in some chopped veggies such as celery, carrots, potatoes. and you get an amazing chicken soup at the same time.
Thanks for calling, reporting, and showing how to do the chicken correctly. The chicken you saved will likely be mine. Can you post where you got the string dispenser? That's.a 10 outta 10 as a must have gadget. Well done.

Hello from Ole Kaintuck. Needed a reminder for the number of minutes to cook a chicken in the IP and landed here. Enjoyed your apparent surprise at tasting the chicken, and at the texture of the skin. I enjoy Greek seasoning on mine, reminds me of my grandfather's chicken back in the 70's when he used a pressure cooker on his gas stove. Off to the kitchen :)
You are so lovely. Like a grandma I always wanted! :) I just got the 8QT Instant Pot Evo and this will be the first thing I make in it! Excited, I will broil the chicken afterwards for that extra crisp to make the skin perfect. Thank-you for inspiring me to cook!
Mary's Nest Did you Quick Release after 34 minutes or Natural Release?
@@sharyncrawford3419 - Hi Sharyn, Thanks for visiting! I do the natural release. I don't like how the steam pours out with the quick release. If you decide to do the quick release, I recommend using the handle of a wooden spoon to move the knob so as to be a bit of a distance away from the release valve to protect your hands and face. Love, Mary

Someone give this woman a TV show and pay her well. She’s a Natural!!!
I second that! We love watching Mary!
Mmmmhmmmm it's so tasty 😅
Listening to her makes me feel happy and excited about cooking...very soothing.
Thats the reason l subscribed. Her voice is very soothing!
I feel in peace!!! sweet voice
Me too 😀❤️
Totally agree! What's amazing is how her enthusiasm feels so genuine and she rarely says "um" or "like" or "you know." She's a total pro.

My sediments exactly!
Say Hello so true
Mary, I’m a male who enjoys cooking. Your videos are marvelous! Thanks for all the wonderful information you provide.
You're hand rubbing all spices in the chicken is perfect.
This reminds me of cooking with my gramma when I was little. Her enthusiasm and the way she explained every detail. Love it!
I’m using my instaPot for the first time today, with a whole chicken that I grew in my backyard.
Lovely 😊
That must be so satisfying! Good luck!
Geez so cool you are cooking your own chicken 🐔 you raised.
Yum!! How'd it turn out? Was it amazing
Do you let the pressure release naturally or do a quick release ?
All these comments & compliments are great. But the real magic is the time taken in the edits. The fades & the cuts keep you so hooked in.
1:14 instant pot high pressure, 8 min for a lb of chicken, DRY brine or rub it preferred.
4:09 2 teaspoon of salt to 4 and 1/4 lb
Oh Mary you might be a little too sweet for me but I find your videos well thought out and don't take anything for granted with us Novices! You just might make me into loving to cook! Thanks!
One of the things I love about your channel is you don’t use a bunch of store bought cheats. I have to have fresh things. I am on a histamine resistance diet. I can’t have prepared foods.

I've done dozens of chickens in my 6 qt Instant pot ultra - I've tried a number of ways of doing it, including cooking it at 450 in a toaster oven first, or after (The after makes a really crispy skin and only needs like 5 minutes).
Thank you. I love your bubbly personality and this method of cooking a chicken in the Instant Pot is so easy. Again, thank you!
Oh boy! I just ordered an instant pot, and I’m definitely trying this recipe. Thanks a bunch!
Love your attitude. Trying your recipe now. Thanks!
This is my favorite appliance ever. I use it almost every night!! Check out boneless turkey roasts too- most tender white turkey meat I’ve ever had. And the broth makes an amazing gravy
Did you do a slow release or fast for the pressure?
I love your energy and kindness! Thank you for teaching us all of your cooking methods!

Thank you
Hi Miss Mary your tutorial is very clear and pleasant. I can't wait to cook my own chicken! Best wishes Maria
Just got a instant pot and just found you. So excited and will be trying this recipe and others.
I just bought instant pot. Definitely I will try this. She is sweet not talking to fast and her voice is soothing. You earn another 1 subscriber.
Your kitchen is so cute. The floral apron and your bubbly personality.... it's just an all-around lovely aesthetic.
I made it for dinner tonight and it is delicious! Thank you! I used my broth to make my rice. Yummy!
Great recipe! I just cooked my third Instant Pot chicken, this one was 6.24 lbs. Since I don't have those handles on my rack to lift it out of the pot, all of the limbs fell of while lifting it out. It turned out good though.
Thanks for sharing your culinary knowledge.
I’m going to try this tonight using tandoori as my seasoning. I will mix carrots, sweet potatoes and yams as veges in the bottom.
Yummy
Mary, I was like you about the Chickens Crust, yes I could hear how crisp it was, (not a soggy skin). I was totally surprised also. Thanks for sharing.
Mary. I felt like you were talking to me. What a wonderful presentation and your enthusiasm was so refreshing. I'm waiting for my roast to be done and looking for my menu for next weekends dinners. Yours it is. I will keep you posted.
Hi Beth, Thank you SO much for visiting and for the kind words! You are such a sweetheart! I have to tell you that I was sincerely surprised at how tasty this chicken came out! I have a few other Instant Pot videos here (and hopefully more to come!): ruclips.net/p/PLkRuW3pBo2U21zBjMF6BwDEquDFKVjVsF

I am glad I stumbled upon this! Can’t wait to try this over the weekend!!! Thank you so much!
you can turn the pot to saute, leave the lid off , and reduce that tasty broth a little - i'm using this recipe today- thnx
I've rarely been more proud of myself than learning that I have the same Instant Pot as Mary. I finally feel like an adult who makes good decisions.
Absolutely love hearing your sweet voice and your wonderful video’s and your enthusiasm as you are teaching. Thank you. I have so many recipes I have written down.
Thanks for a wonderful recipe . Your voice is so soothing!! I have an air fryer. I am thinking I could throw it in the air fryer for the last 5 minutes to crisp it up
Hi Sara, Thank you so much for visiting and for the kind words! Yes, I like your idea about the air fryer. I bet that would work like a charm. You might enjoy my other Instant Pot recipes here: ruclips.net/p/PLkRuW3pBo2U21zBjMF6BwDEquDFKVjVsF

You're so calming ☺️ glad I found this channel. All love from South Africa 🇿🇦
Sounds like a plan! 🤗
Mary, it's a real pleasure watching you cook. I have learn a lot from your skills. Thank you. Natalia, Miami, FL.
So good.thank you
Sounds great!
I just love Mary, my first time watching I am now a forever fan!
Thank you SO much for the kind words!! So glad you’re here!! Love, Mary

What a lovely, nice, pleasant person to listen to. Thanks for a great video. Going to give it a go!
I really love your explanation. Clear and enough information.
Thanks for sharing. That sounds wonderful!
My chicken came out looking it’s been boiled. What did I do wrong??? 😭
You make wonderful videos! I love watching you. You’re so informative and pleasant! I can’t wait to try a whole video. Blessings!
You make it look delicious! I'm going to give it a try today! Thank you!
Just got some 5spice-getting my whole chicken pronto. Thanks!
Thanks for calling, reporting, and showing how to do the chicken correctly. The chicken you saved will likely be mine. Can you post where you got the string dispenser? That's.a 10 outta 10 as a must have gadget. Well done.
Thank you for sharing, you are such a delight to watch! Makes me want to cook more♥♥♥

I have the 8 qt instant pot. I love it.
I had a cooks essential pressure cooker I loved but finely quit working.

Broth looks so good.
You are so lovely. Like a grandma I always wanted! :) I just got the 8QT Instant Pot Evo and this will be the first thing I make in it! Excited, I will broil the chicken afterwards for that extra crisp to make the skin perfect. Thank-you for inspiring me to cook!
