      Mary's Nest Did you Quick Release after 34 minutes or Natural Release?

    • @MarysNest
      @MarysNest  5 лет назад +14

      @@sharyncrawford3419 - Hi Sharyn, Thanks for visiting! I do the natural release. I don't like how the steam pours out with the quick release. If you decide to do the quick release, I recommend using the handle of a wooden spoon to move the knob so as to be a bit of a distance away from the release valve to protect your hands and face. Love, Mary

      @brandisweetwater3439 Have you tried hard boiled eggs in the Instant Pot yet? The IP is like the pro hack for hard boiled eggs. Super easy and simple: 5 mins at high pressure plus 5 mins before unsealing, then fill the pot with cold water. Perfect every time. To make them super easy to peel, poke a hole in the top of each egg with a push pin or egg piercer before cooking. I make sweet pickled eggs every week using eggs I hard boil in the Instant Pot.

    Mary always makes me smile as I watch. Her delight in cooking is just lovely. Someone asked me if we were related as we look very similar - only I think I’m shorter! Her information is invaluable and given in such a relatable way. She deserves her success as she has no gimmicks, no sensationalism, no weird clickbait, just good recipes and excellent content. Long may she continue. I may need to dye my hair though…..

    When I make chicken (usually wings) we always save the broth in the bottom. I also stick some diced up celery, carrots, onions and garlic in the bottom so that it will make the broth more flavorful. Just strain out the veggies in the end, then you can use it to make gravy or soup, or sometimes I use it instead of water to make rice

    My husband bought us an Instant Pot! We haven't used it yet. I bought 3 whole chickens on sale yesterday to roast so I can then make bone broth. My roaster will only hold 2 chickens, so I thought I would look up your video on roasting chicken for a refresher. Then I saw you have this one so watched it. I think I'll just do all three, one at a time and with different seasonings, in the Instant Pot! I'll vacuum seal and freeze some of the meat for later. I just really wanted to make bone broth. lol Thank you for encouraging your viewers! I think I can do this, thanks to you.

    What a brill cooking video! I learnt several things, firstly how to prepare a chicken, (extra tip about saving peelings), how much water to use, how to use the metal trivet, but for me the best tip was the info. regarding the vent, how to know where it should be, high for venting, lower is for sealing when cooking!

    Great recipe! I just cooked my third Instant Pot chicken, this one was 6.24 lbs. Since I don't have those handles on my rack to lift it out of the pot, all of the limbs fell of while lifting it out. It turned out good though.

    7/7/23: Your chicken looks wonderful, Mary, and I ordered the 8 qt. Instant Pot an hour ago because of it and other recipes I've seen thus far. However, I would have loved to have seen how your chicken looked on the inside after you cut it (i.e., to see how juicy it turned out, etc.). And like you, I would definitely season my chicken before laying it down in the IP, but I'd use chicken broth instead of water (just a personal preference). If for some reason my chicken skin doesn't crisp up enough, I'll put it under the broiler for 2 mins. or so. Nevertheless, your demo was very thorough, and I can't wait to receive and try mine in many recipes. Thanks for sharing. It was fun & informative watching!

    Hello again! I'm planning on making a Chinese steamed/Tea Smoked chicken soon. I came here for cooking times, and the 8minutes per pound may be a bit on the long side. My wok recipe suggests doing a dry rub, letting it sit for 4 hours, then steaming in a bamboo basket in the wok for 30 minutes. That is very close to, but less than, your 8minutes per pound, and at room pressure. The chicken is finished with hot smoke for 15 minutes, SO, I'll be giving my critter 5 minutes per pound in the Instant pot with at least a 5 minute natural release (that keeps the ceiling clean), and then follow up with the smoking. I'll let you know if we are eating succulent raw chicken, or a masterpiece.

      3.75lb chicken. Coarse salt, szechuan pepper corns, scallions and ginger rub. Instant Pot, 6 minutes per lb (19 minutes, actually) using half water, half chicken broth and cinnamon stick for liquid, 5 minute rest and quick release. Tea smoking outside for 20 minutes. Moist, fantastic chicken, very chickeny white meat, full herbal tea flavor. I think 8 minutes would have killed everything. So once again, THANK YOU!

    I made this today. The rub is delicious. I will make a big batch to have on hand. The chicken was very tender and not dry. The broth is out of this world. My skin did not get as dry as yours, was srill very moist/mushy but I crisped it up with my Mealthy crisplod and you would think this is a rotisserie chicken. Tx for the recipe.

      @@mimitran3327 The use of the paprika (and other red chili spices) was to color the skin, giving it a more appealing look than just boiled. The skin just will not crisp in the instant pot w/o an air fryer lid.

    • @DemziBee
      @DemziBee 2 года назад

      @@mimitran3327 depending on the amount of water in the chicken it will be sitting in too much water and boiling as it cooks. That's why the wings fell off in her recipe. No fault of hers or yours because it is recommended to add all of that water by the manufacturer. However I have learned to not add 1 cup of water to chicken because at least 1 cup will cook out due to the fact that water is added at the processing plants.

    Do this using Chinese 5 spice powder as the rub after coating the whole chicken in coconut oil. It is amazing. You can't use too much powder...get it completely coated with a thick coating. You can also do this in a clay pot in the oven...2 hours at 300 degrees F with the lid on. Take the lid off for the last 10 minutes. You need to add water up to the bottom of the rack for the clay pot method. You can also toss in some chopped veggies such as celery, carrots, potatoes. and you get an amazing chicken soup at the same time.

    Hello from Ole Kaintuck. Needed a reminder for the number of minutes to cook a chicken in the IP and landed here. Enjoyed your apparent surprise at tasting the chicken, and at the texture of the skin. I enjoy Greek seasoning on mine, reminds me of my grandfather's chicken back in the 70's when he used a pressure cooker on his gas stove. Off to the kitchen :)

    You are so lovely. Like a grandma I always wanted! :) I just got the 8QT Instant Pot Evo and this will be the first thing I make in it! Excited, I will broil the chicken afterwards for that extra crisp to make the skin perfect. Thank-you for inspiring me to cook!
