Batman, or rather Bruce Wayne, is the richest man in Gotham. We all know that. Well, today I am here to prove that FACT is a LIE! Yep, good ole Brucey has been beat by none other than his biggest rival. Somehow our favorite ever smiling big bad Joker has come out on top of the money game. How? Well Theorists,to answer that question we'll need to revisit one of my favorite Batman movies ever - The Dark Knight!

The thing most people fail to realize about the Joker in The Dark Knight is that he is doing the same thing as Batman: destroying the organized crime and corrupt officials of Gotham. And, he is better at it. Absolutely wrecks them, because he's waging total war with no rules.

With how Joker is with pulling tricks, I wouldn't be surprised if the interior of the giant stack was a platform, making it much less in value than it actually was.
It's been said in a few different mediums that Bruce Wayne is worth over 100 billion. How much of that he can actually turn into cash however, is another story. But he does burn money at a rate that might challenge Joker's feat.

This is exactly what Joker said when trying to remember his past in The Killing Joke, so him having memories of being a war veteran would definetly fit in with the mystery.

PTSD being one of the many things a psychopath is immune to. They are born that way and it it is always part who they are. Sociopaths have similar traits in certain areas but completely difones in others. Unlike psychopaths, society and traumatic life e experiences turn them into what they are and they are able to experience PTSD, often to a greater degree and for longer periods of time than a normal person. The Joker was a psychopath and did not possess the capacity yo experience PTSD. And if my theory were to be correct his psychological makep would've made him perfect for his job in the millitar. Lack of empsthy, high I.Q. ( Psychopaths have higher I.Q.s on average), the ability to always be one step ahead, etc....
This also just shows the skill that comes with creating these types of sets for movies. Praise to the crew that had to deal with that headache!

In the movie, every interaction he has holds zero garuntee of going his way, but no matter which way it goes it still furthers his ultimate goal (ie, destroying the soul of gotham and causing it to devolve into chaos). He is able to plan so well that he can account for any reaction he gets from his chaotic actions.

People seemingly always forget one thing. The Joker regularly goes against Batman and at times nearly wins. A dude most agree on is good enough to pretty much take on anyone if he gets prep time. The worlds best Detective. And the joker usually can hold his own against him. That should tell you just HOW smart and scary he is.

What really happened was that The Joker hid the real stash and burned fakes, he didn’t even give guy a chance for a clear look at the cash #trust

This might be a good as spot as any, but your spot at the beginning about starting food theory, I actually found all your channels about 3 weeks ago from food theory. I randomly stumbled on a vud while unpacking at my new place, then binged food theory stuff and landed on game theory. Last weekend binged tons of game theory vids and alas, I've been binging more this week and started film theory while on vacation and still unpacking and settling in. So full circle I suppose but thanks for all the great vids for all these years you've been doing em across all the channels. Tons of great theories, really dug the neo not the one theory and think that one nailed it and game me new respect for the whole series (haven't seen the new one yet).

Here’s my Joker theory:
When the mob guys insult Joker’s suit, calling it cheap, he corrects them and says, “you oughta know, you bought it.” However, later in the film when the Joker is ‘captured’ the audience is told that the suit was custom made, with no tags to identify where he got it from. Of course, Joker could’ve paid someone to make it for him without any tags, but I like to think that he strolled into Joann and used the mobster’s money to buy the most expensive fabrics they had, then spent hours making the suit himself. Imagine the Joker sitting on the floor with fabric all around him, frustrated as he tries to get the thread through the eye of the needle.
If that happened I would have set it on fire!!

I always liked to believe it was in some way bullet or at least flame proof, they don't mention it so looking back it was kinda stupid but I just thought it gave him that extra power over the situation if it was like that.
I dont think the joker would struggle with the sewing tho definitely hand made for sure and id like to think thaf each part of the suit came from each different sub gang of the mob or something and that he wouldn't take from just one place hed take from everything

Now almost three years after the launch of food theory it still manages to be my favorite of theory channels
based on what you said, and with all the evidence laid out, I'd say it more likely his character kept most of the money, and the VAST majority of the stacks shown in the scene were prop cash. Would help explain how it was assembled so fast as well- so much prop cash acquired in bulk would likely be delivered and packaged in large bricks which would be a lot easier to assemble than take out loose stacks from 4000 duffle bags lol. Plus prop cash would burn better.

we didn't see him killing his henchmen this time, so he kept them alive so they could gossip to the rest of the criminal world about how the crazy joker burned billions of dollars (so he's crazy enough to do anything). If he burned fake cash instead he comes across as a fake instead of intimidating.

That’s the thing about chaos; it doesn’t always mean rampant and manic and disorganized. It’s unexpected, it’s supposed to be a non sequitur, catch everyone off guard, and that can include being so incredibly precise, all for the purpose of inciting confusion and shock.
I've read something like it in the Art of War - to appear disorganised when you're fully organised, to appear small when you're actually large, etc.. Just to throw off your opponents since All Warfare Is Deception.

I was thinking about the Joker's line, "Do I look like a guy with a plan?", and how that seems to contradict the meticulous level of, well, planning that it had to have taken to pull off all of his activities, and I realized that he's not necessarily lying. The difference is between "plan" as a noun, and "to plan" as a verb.
As this video and many others demonstrate, there is no question that the Joker must have planned extensively for everything to go off with such precision. However that's not the same as "having a plan", in the sense of having a specific objective or achievement one is setting out to accomplish. Now I recognize there's a bit of splitting-hairs going on, but I think the distinction, at least from the Joker's perspective, makes sense. He has no ultimate ambition, not for power, not for money, not for any of the usual pursuits that a criminal would be seeking. He describes himself as a dog chasing cars, implying it's all about the process, the journey, not the destination.
Every scheme and heist he performs is part of a message, a message about chaos, the inherent corruption of human nature, the blurred lines between lawbreakers and law enforcers. Had he not been captured by Batman (or more accurately, had the actor not tragically passed), it's safe to assume that he would have continued in that same chaos, building upon his performance, chasing cars indefinitely with no final objective in sight. And in that way, I would say that the Joker *plans*, but does not *have a plan*. A subtle distinction, but I think it applies.

I'm just pointing out that when most people say that the Joker is lying when he says he doesn't have a plan, from his perspective he's telling the truth. If you want to discuss the interpretation, I'm open to feedback, but maybe just give a direct response without the... dramatics?

Funny that this video was suggested to me 2 years after its creation. And especially since I started being subscribed to Food theory first. Lol . Great video! Love Ledger's version of the Joker. Many different theories regarding this character. My favorite theory is that Joker was a former US special ops soldier/operative who turned against society, which, also supports your theory. Someone who would know about maintaining a tactical advantage and working within time sensitive restrictions and reactions.

I really recommend reading the Dark Days and Dark Nights storyline from the comics. It has a fantastic villain called Batman who laughs, who's basically a Jokerified Batman who comes to earth with bunch of other different fucked up Batmen from the dark multiverse.

I love how matpat has little jokes inside his videos he really makes learning fun
They're already in a warehouse, they could have just stacked a bunch of boxes to stage the money on. The weight of the money you cited was if the volume hadn't changed when it was replaced with whatever it was staged with/on... so that weight would be potentially much lighter if hypothetically 60% of it was now boxes just below the surface.

What do you think the real reason he burned all that cash was? More money isn't necessarily better because past a certain point it doesn't actually make life any easier, especially if you're not concerned with flaunting status or luxury. Past that point, it becomes a headache, especially if you have to launder it so you can pay taxes. It's far easier to just get rid of it and you might as well make a point at the same time.

Yes, In comics and cartoon its somewhat of a running gag that the Joker is afraid of nothing, except the IRS. Considering this is comic land and they also have to get Taxes from Lex frigging Luther and other assorted super rich super criminals its somewhat understandable. By the way, the Joker is also a frikking Patriot. As in antagonises the Red Skull in a crossover over it.
