Another REUPLOAD!? I know, this one had been blocked for 3 weeks and my DMs have been blowing up ever since. But next week back to normal. And it's something a lot of you have been asking for from day one. At least a beginning...Only the most avid movie aficionados will be able to decipher the teaser frame.
I think the finger on the revolver's hammer was an intentional choice. He went to hospital to finish turning Dent to Two Face and direct him to the path Joker planned him to take. BUT he also knew that Dent had every reason to blow Joker's head off when given the chance. Why do it then? Because it shows to Two Face that it would be waste of time to chase Joker later. It gave illusion that Joker would not care if Two Face shot him, so that also makes it seems waste of time, and the time could be used on something else...
For me, is the only true joker Cesar Romero: too comedic Mark Hamill: isn’t too much crazy Joaquin Phoenix: The outfit and makeup doesn’t match with the Joker Jared Leto: ......
@@kirbooi4146 The explosion not going off at the hospital was improvised aswell and they only had 1 take to do it :) Michael Caine also forgot his line when first encountering Heath's Joker and they went with it.
You missed a win. In the party scene Rachael kicks Joker and he says “You got a little fight in you, I like that.” And then Bruce- Batman says “Then you’re gonna love me.”
@@ThejusRao agree but since it's a superhero movie as it's genre, u can't actually expect realism, just as long as its entertaining and logical. At least after 10 years ppl still rewatched it and enjoyed, it's a good movie
"You see in their last moments...people show you all who they really are. So, in a way I knew your friends better than you ever did" One of my fav lines
Oh fuck yeah I was like, even when the scene was happening and it was clear the joker wanted to start a fight, that there was no way he could get that seasoned badass to take a swing Then he comes out with that. And I wanted to fucking hit him! One line broke down the disbelief
When I heard that line in theaters. The "would you like to know which one of them were cowards" I thought to myself, if you ever called any of those people your friends in the past there is no way you can not punch that guy in the face right now"
cdname47 Hands down my favorite line in the film. Who are they to stop someone like the Joker from stealing from them. Such a frightening level of levelheadedness.
I love how you can see Joker is making up his "why so serious" story as he tells it. You can tell because he pauses for a few seconds multiple times and rolls his eyes up pondering since he's improvising.
Actually each one of his "why so serious" stories are accurate to the comic books about Jokers origins. That's what is so awesome that Nolan purposely used those stories to make comic book lovers have a nerdgasm.
Ian Bauer Yes, the movie was well made with a great series of Easter eggs for the audience. But in this universe, the Joker was improvising, so the original idea holds true
I actually don't believe that's evidence of him making it up as he goes. He's a showman, he knows how to build tension in an already tense situation, to keep his victims on edge. He also seems to sort of "collect" himself, formulating his thoughts to words.
You are so fucking right, imagine the dark knight rises with him in it. Jesus that man was just getting started then he accidentally overdosed, may the lord bless him.
@@jacksonmorgan4347 I'm kinda glad rises didnt have Joker. They would have had to live up to what they did in Dark Knight even more than they already had to. Joker as a side character wouldn't have worked
@@jacksonmorgan4347 actually there's a video that did a two part video of what if Joker was in Rises. I highly recommend it. It fixes things in the movie that didn't work too well.
I remember watching this movie with my late grandfather earlier this year. We were watching the transport scene and he said "This is why I hate action movies. If he really wanted to kill him he'd use a bazooka." I then looked at him and the next second. "I stand corrected." I will forever remember that moment and that is what firmly set its place in my favorite movies of all time.
I feel like in this movie, Christian Bale is kinda left out of the spotlight, but he still has an incredible performance and a wonderfully written character
Welll Nolan said he wanted to Spotlight Batman Batman Begins because Batman Forever made Bats a joke. Then he let Joker and Bane take centre stage in the next 2 movies.
I can't believe you didnt win the line from Lucius to Reese where he says "Let me get this straight. You think that your client, one of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the world, is secretly a vigilante who spends his nights beating criminals to a pulp with his bare hands; and your plan, is to blackmail this person? Good luck. "
Personally, I think Aaron Eckhart is very underrated in this movie. I love his portrayal of Two-Face. He is just overshadowed by the performance of Heath Ledger.
The line "its not about what I want, its about what's fair" and "you thought we could be decent men in an indecent time" gives me chills everytime. Ledger, Eckhart, Oldman, and Bale were great in this film.
@Daniel Roberts I felt just like Gordon looked like he was feeling. Utterly destroyed by the fall of someone so good. Eckhart played that part so well. Ledger just had to go and give the performance of the century and upstage literally everyone else. But everyone in this film was spot on good.
I disagree with you sir. He is not necessarily underrated in this movie, he is awesome in this movie including his character development and story arc from the beginning of his life as a hero to the middle when he became dark and corrupt to his end when he died a monster, which was foreshadowed in the movie from his quote when he "lived long enough to see himself become the villain" and ironic from his quote when he died a villain instead of "dying a hero".
My theory is that Joker was a soldier known for his brutality and ability to create chaos and insurgency.During the interrogation, he says something like this, “You’re a freak, like me. Sure, they need you now. But as soon as they don’t? they’ll toss you out, like a leper.” Which lead me to the idea that he was a soldier praised for his insanity until it wasn’t needed anymore, then he was cast out, dishonorably discharged, abandoned on a mission and left for dead, whatever form that may have taken. I don’t have a lot of specifics or hard evidence, but as mentioned in the video that’s a good thing.
7:50 You missed the joke; when joker says “you got a little fight in you, I like that.” and then Batman enters saying “Then you’re gonna love me.” For some reason that always cracks me up.
@@killerzone1999 agree, but there are sooo many "just a 10 second clip" parts that were left out. If he had to put all of them, the runtime of this video would add 50% at least. He gotta set a limit sooner or later :)
Heath Ledger's voice acting through the whole movie deserves its own win. Looking back at old interviews his regular voice sounds most like Chris Hemsworth - deep with an Australian accent. The way that he mastered all of the Joker's weird vocal nuances, from his American accent, to the growls, to the maniacal laughter, occasional voice crack is incredible. It's an absolute tragedy that we lost him so soon, he would have starred in so many more incredible roles. Though I am thankful that this is one role that immortalizes his talent.
This whole movie made only 145 wins and marvel movies are making hundreds so i think that's why his not giving a lot of wins because his a marvel fan and only pays so much attention to detail that he gives wins that aren't important in marvel movies but doesn't give wins to very cool details in this movie
There’s also irony to Alfred condemning the Joker by saying that “some men just want to watch the world burn.” Although Alfred is depicted as being on the side of order, it was Alfred’s team that burned down an entire forest to catch the jewel thief that he compares to the Joker throughout the movie.
Am I the only one that feels like in the start when the joker “miscalculated” the number of shots the banker had left in his shotgun. He actually knew he had one left, it was just easier for him to make the banker kill his goon
I hundred percent thought that too... even in my first watch I had guessed that was the Joker by that point (maybe a bit because of the mask being similar to one worn in an earlier iteration).
I think he just didnt really care. If the banker was out of bullets, then Joker would kill the guy anyway, and if the banker wasnt out of bullets and he killed the guy, then the only difference to the plan is that Joker kills the guy who opens the vault. It literally makes no difference to the Joker
He 100% knew the banker still had one more shot left, and definately purposely betrayed his own goon cause he didnt give af, was gonna do him in anyways
Fun fact: Ledger helmed his Joker videos himself. Nolan supervised the first, but Ledger knocked it so far out of the park that Nolan just left him to the others
First time I saw this movie, when Joker says "you and I are destined to do this forever", that was a moment of sadness for me. Because, yeah, I wanted them to. And Ledger was gone. He was a terrific actor and I wish we'd gotten at least another Joker from him. I don't mean that's the ONLY reason he's missed, just one of them.
I realize this is super late, but it really feels like the Joker was fully expecting Harvey be batman. The little "hmm" when he sees the batmobile sounds quietly surprised. Like he expected the vigilante to burst out of the transport.
I agree with your vision, specially because in the interrogation scene with Batman he says “you know for a while I really thought you were Harvey”. Which for me just solidifies what the video said about the Joker having lots of backup plans, he sees that Harvey isn’t Batman and just goes well here’s plan b then
@@1itslaurahere1 but with this Joker, you can never know for sure. If anything, the fact that he _says_ that makes me think it's not true. Everything else he says is a lie.
Fun fact: The Nolans did actually have a backstory for the Joker, five mutually exclusive ones, to be exact. The script writers were each assigned one of these at random and told not to look at any of the four others ever, and they shredded them afterwards to make sure none of them became 'canonical' after the film was released. All in order to really sell the 'Agent of Chaos' persona. I guess if Ledger's Joker was going to have a passt they'd prefer it to be multiple choice.
@Cat Lover Such is a rumor It starts as a story Maybe it's true, maybe not But once you repeat it It's hard to defeat it And this is the mess that you've got
Ras Al ghul: Someone who believes in order, but takes it too far. Scarecrow: genuinely insane man who loves spreading fear. Joker: An agent of chaos. Believes morality to be a facade. Two face: A fallen hero who believes in chance above all else Bane: The only foe of Batman to beat him in a straight up physical fight. Catwoman: Thief with a heart of gold Talia: Seeking revenge.
I LOVE the moment at 4:50 because you learn so much from the tiny shot of everyone backing up. Between the 3 bosses (Gambol, Chechen, and Maroni), they embody 3 very distinct reactions to the Joker. Gambol is angry and reactive. He knows he’s not in control here, and he hates it. He’s grasping for a semblance of that comfort that control gives him, to a point that he blindsides himself to the very real danger Joker poses. Maroni also knows Joker is in control, but on the other hand, he knows this isn’t someone who can be “bought, bribed, reasoned with, or intimidated”. He maintains a little bit of composure in front of his men, but has a sort of “don’t make any sudden moves” look etched onto his face, with his eyes glued to the Joker. And then there’s Chechen, who has the most interesting reaction: he’s intrigued. Curious. He sees the Joker as a potential business partner (evidenced by him humoring Joker’s questions, asking his price, genuinely considering his offer, and even leaning casually as if to show he’s open to Joker’s proposal from the beginning). When Joker pulls the grenade card, Chechen barely stirs - he looks back at everyone else’s reactions, but he maintains the same casual composure, as though he expected this and is unfazed. It leads into their later actions as well (Gambol’s leap to the conclusion at Joker’s “death”, Maroni’s confession to Harvey about Ramirez and his tip to Gordon about Joker’s later whereabouts, and Chechen’s acceptance and inclusion of “the clown” to get rid of Batman, even giving him his half of the compensation as he had requested)

The fact that after all the explosions, mass murders, and huge scale action sequences, the big climax is just some guy with a burnt face and a gun... And it's still so freaking tense. Incredible.
I agree. I was almost 13 when I watched this film in 2008, and I didn‘t understand anything that happened. I couldn‘t even let it sink in because my parents wanted to sneak into another theater and _watch Mamma fucking Mia_ right afterwards. The mood whiplash was real and impenetrable, and it stuck. Everything I know about the greatness of this movie was told to me by more analytical people like Cinema Wins. I don‘t have any real impression of _The Dark Knight,_ save for how radically different Ledger‘s Joker was from Hamill‘s Joker in B:TAS. It‘s also worse when my parents don‘t want to delve into the deeper meanings of the movies they watch - they just watch movies for fun, not for the stories it tells or the characters that develop in them. _The Dark Knight_ was nothing more than 2-hour entertainment with a menacingly horrifying Joker in it. I wouldn‘t be surprised if they really went to see the annoyingly cheerful ABBA tribute musical just to cleanse their palates. But the tragic fate of Heath Ledger and the terror of the Joker scared my mom so much, she refused to let me watch _The Dark Knight Rises_ when it premiered in 2012 (as well as the Aurora theatre massacre, perhaps.)
the first time i saw this movie i didnt even knew it is a batman movie and how big of a deal this movie was and still it gave me goosebumps. The batman film i remembered as a kid before this movie was the one with mr freeze.
You seemingly missed that both Wayne's and Joker's first words at the party are "Where is Harvey Dent?" and both of them toss out their alcoholic drink without drinking it.
I have seen this several times and missed the "Where's Harvey Dent" question being from both Batman and Joker. Got to confess I always liked the Joker say "We are tonight's" slight pause, "entertainment."
Omg that moment when joker takes off his mask and says "stranger" is sooo good. Just that sound making his voice kind of like an echo and it combines with the music to make that amazing intro. It's so fricking good. I get chills every time I hear it.
I loved both performances, but they were different. You could always sympathize with Joaquin Phoenix's Joker. But Heath Ledger's Joker was just an embodiment of chaos and fear. I don't know how to explain it, but they seem to be two different Jokers(characters).
@@Xannyphantom905 I think it would be better thought out like this: Joaquin Phoenix is the comic joker inside his own head. His own view of the world, where he is a tragic hero, turned comedic villain. Heath Ledger is not the Joker (to me that title is reserved for the voice of Mark Hamill) but the real-life version of him. There is simply no way for Joker to be alive, in this world, our world, without him being Ledger's take. Insane, yes, but brutally efficient and insanely pragmatic. The dude has a plan b and c for when he dies. Always a move ahead in everything he tries to do. Of COURSE, he's insane, you'd be too.
Every joker scene Every batman scene Everything joker says Scarecrow cameo Two face origins Gary oldman being Gary oldman Michael Cain being Michael Cain Ummmmm.... Did I mention everything about the joker
@Neil Brown thats your subjective opinion. a reminder he won an Oscar for this performance after he passed on, so just consider that feat alone then think to yourself if his performance really is overrated, especially compaired to the other most popular villains in fiction
@@frosthunterzz well while I respect your opinion I think that the avengers is better than avengers endgame and I think that the only movies that can rival The dark knight are (spiderman 2 , logan , infinity war) but I don't think it can beat the dark knight and thor ragnorok is great but it is not a close rival for those movies
having his past a mystery really fits for the joker, as he said in the killing joke" sometimes i remember one way, sometimes another. If i'm going to have a past i prefer it to be multiple choice."
3:24 What's the most interesting is that Harvey did both. He lived to become the villan, but died a hero since Batman took the blame for him because he wanted Harvey's reputation to always stay good. Because Harvey was always good, he simply was corrupted by The Joker.
I agree with the Joker PTSD theory. But more specifically I think he was part of some black ops covert unit. Something classified. Which would explain why he's never identified. And since if he failed a mission or got captured, he probably would be disavowed, resulting in his hatred for the established order.
I think the fact that he hasn’t got an identity also proves his point that no one cares about soldiers dying because the movie only gives us the information that he might be some sort of soldier, treating his identity like a statistic and nothing special
14:00. Attention to detail. that Stain on Dent's Pillow from his scarred half always makes me Queasy. You can feel his bare face rubbing against the cloth. And makes it more real.
I remember when I was watching the movie for the first time, Two-Face really scared the shit out of me. I am that kid who get scared really easily. That stain makes the pain of his more "real".
In regards to the Joker’s military background and his experience with interrogations, I think we forget his ability to read people. He claimed to “know the squealers when he sees them” in reference to Lau, which ended up being correct. He knows how to push buttons, like when he claims to “know the cop’s friends better than the cop ever did” and get a reaction or get people to submit to his plan. Just some things that play to his abilities and seeming expertise in interrogations, possibly showing even more of the Joker than we realize. Great writing and incredible performance.
I just love the irony that people didn't want Heath to be Joker and then he became the best Joker ever interpreted. It's really sad that he died, his career could have been even greater and nowadays he would probably be really proud of the way he destroyed all his haters and how high he set the bar. May he rest in peace
The line was actually "I go to Hong Kong. Far from Dent's jurisdiction. And the Chinese will not extradite one of their own." So was very much stating that Hong Kong was part of China, which has gotten even more true over the years.
@AlHasan Sameh Huh. Also yeah, i never watched Godfather, so i think that's why i don't remember the name. (I know like, 4 Vitos, so i didn't remember that one right away)
Also, Heath Ledger's constant lip-smacking is a perfect imitation of a side effect of antipsychotic medications (called tardive dyskinesia) Such detail!
Ash P you do know that he did that to keep the feathering in his mouth so the scars wouldn’t come undone and it just became part of the character right?
I personally always interpreted the line "I think you and I are destined to do this forever." As a reference to the fact Batman vs the joker will probably be a thing that pretty much lasts forever
Just Justus I think one of the single-handedly best parts about the movie is that nothing is given to the audience, you have to imagine the meanings, I think this line was a great commentary on how perfect the Joker and Batman are as rivals, created to always conflict with the Joker always truly winning as he either creates chaos or causes Batman to lose sanity and look bad in the eyes of Gotham, either way Joker creates chaos, his only motive
Harvey Dent is such an underrated character. He was so well written as the hope of Gotham becoming a criminal that is driven by revenge. I rewatched this movie and felt sad that Harvey became Two Face even though I already knew it would happen. Man this film is great.
@@gman4736 theres quite a bit of difference. Hamil only did the voice for cartoon unlike ledger doing it in a live action movie. I dont think Hamil would be able to do a good live action joker
EASILY the best live action joker. zero question. personally i think hamill's voice is just so iconic that nothing will ever beat him in the voice acting department, but ledger's joker is chill-inducing in an entirely different way
my favorite hidden detail is how Alot of the time, Harvey's face is usually viewed from a side angle so we never see his entire face head on, and alot of the time even when he is facing forward, half his face is in shadow. just good visuals
When Batman tells Joker to "let her go" you see confusion on his face, like for the first time he had something genuinely not go to plan, but work out for him anyway.
I always saw it as Joker seeing Batman as an above average intelligent adversary, so when Batman tells him to let her go, the look on his face was more "Really? i thought you were smarter than that".
It’s cool how the line “as a man, I’m made of flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed. But as a symbol I’m incorruptible” plays into The Dark Knight through Harvey Dent as he was just a man, he was both destroyed and corrupted as he never transcended to a symbol. His title of Gotham’s white knight grounded him as a man while Bruce remained as a symbol which never wavered.
There are 3 things that really stand out for me in this movie: 1. the Joker (surprise) 2. this violin that gets more and more intense when the scene gets more and more intense 3. that this movie does not seem to end bc theres always another ace up in the jokers sleeves
Do we even need to list everything great about this film for twenty minutes? Here’s it in a nutshell: 1.) The Joker 2.) Epic Cinematography 3.) The Joker 4.) Philosophical questions of the Joker 5.) The Joker 6.) The Score 7.) The Joker 8.) Twoface 9.) The Joker 10.) DID I MENTION THE JOKER ENOUGH?

"Astute observation from the chatty guy who stole Chandler's hat"... so cool lol that's because of these lines that I LOVE your channel, you're so good at it, you genuinely love movies and we feel it.
Mark Hamill Joker is the most iconic of all Joker, that's fair Jack Nicholson is a terrific mob boss Joker, sure but Heath Ledger Joker is just bone chilling cruel with that maniacal laugh of his
Then we have Jared Leto's Joker, the only one legitimately in love with Harley Quinn and not just using her. And Cameron Monaghan's Joker, the ultimate hybrid love-baby between Hamill's and Ledger's. Heath Leger is still the best out of all of them, but each and every one of them stand out in their own unique way that just makes them unforgettable.
The Joker isn't supposed to love Harley. It's a fundamental misunderstanding of his character and their dynamic. There are only two people Joker cares about: The Joker and Batman. Changing that is wrong. And then of course there's how brilliantly DC portrays a realistic, disturbing abusive relationship without it feeling like gratuitous violence.
Maybe you're right about the "character ruining" thing, but seeing as how every incarnation of Joker that I've seen until his was abusive and manipulative, it felt like a breath of fresh air to have one that felt some kind of reciprocation to Harley's feelings. Especially, since he did start out like Joker normally was. Explanation time(This got long, sorry): 1) Leto's Joker was only manipulating Harley right from the start like how he normally does, but upon that moment right before he fried her brain when she told how she felt, he paused because he didn't realize just how strong her feelings were. I.E. he thought that she would immediately hate him or beg him to stop upon his attack, but she just went through with it, because she truly loved him; something he NEVER anticipated was that she would still love him. That's where his curiosity in her first truly sparked. 2) I haven't watched it, but I think there was a deleted scene where Harley hunted down Joker and killed people in his name just to convince him to let her join him(Or something along those lines; I really need to look up that deleted scene sometime). That's where the fire began. Joker once again failed to anticipate just how strong Harley's love for him was. However, he went along with her...maybe out of fun? Amusement? He just wanted to have so fun with her? Doesn't matter, since that's where it began to bloom. 3) The ultimate tipping point came eventually when some time later, Leto's Joker felt comfortable enough to confide in her, his ACE Chemical path memory and then took her there. But here's the kicker... Joker was still manipulating Harley at this point. "Would you...live for me?"
@@tabbygorilla1515 thanks you for saying what no one says. "Joker " is a good movie about mental illness but not a good move about the actual Joker persona.
@@tabbygorilla1515 you don't understand the movie. If you expected a movie about the joker then sorry but what you got is the creation of the Joker. Arthur is one of jokers back stories (maybe) and its about how he becomes the joker you clearly don't understand the movie if you say its overrated. I thought it was a great way to show how joker was born but the movie leaves so many things left open that you don't know if anything is real like joker says "if I would have it choose my own story then I'd prefer multiple choice" or something along those lines Joker is about how he became not Joker in his prime like Heath's Joker was
16:25 Ultimately, Jokers full plan was completed in full by Bane when he read Gordon’s Anniversary Speech (in the football stadium). Joker won, 8 years after Batman thought he did it, Joker’s absolute destruction of Harvey’s POV lead to the prisoners being released. I understand they were broken out of jail, but even if Batman stopped Bane right then and there, Jokers original plan would have worked: returning Gotham to its raw chaotic state pre-Batman. Haven’t seen this level of continuity in a long time.
The Joker is the hero Gotham needs but not the one it deserves. He dismantles the large criminal organizations, kills the Hong Kong guy who was helping them, drew out and killed some of the corruption in the police force and justice system, attempted to kill all of Gotham's former criminals (the prisoners), pretty much promoted Gordon (the lest corruptible cop) and even stops Batman's illegal activity which was inspiring others to do their own vigilante justice. In the next movie it's 8 years later Gotham is the most peaceful its ever been.
Shane Stachwick Lol, I mean that should have been the focus, or the message of the movie. We're getting a Venom movie, but I want a Joker movie with that plot and a better outcome for the Joker.
damn man, that's a good analysis. I myself think joker in a way is actually a hero and batman acts more like a limiter of what joker can do before thing gets out of hand.
One of my favourite parts is him falling off the building at 15:46 As the Joker Said “in their last moments, people show you who they really are” and jokers final moment (or what he though would be) he is just laughing maniacally
*Notice how the Joker’s fate in **_The Dark Knight_** is nearly the direct opposite of what happens to the Joker in 1989’s **_BATMAN._* In _BATMAN_ (1989), Batman uses his grappling device to to pull the Joker off the helicopter, causing the villain to fall to his death. In both films the Joker is directly responsible for death of people Batman cared for the most. In 1989 the Joker wants badly to get away but Batman’s thirst for revenge wins out. On the inverse, In _TDK_ The Joker is absolutely elated as he falls to death, perhaps satisfied that Batman will now get the point (the point the Joker proved with Harvey Dent). Batman, of course knows what the Joker is thinking and denies his nemesis another victory, pulling him not to his death but to safety. Batman proves (in a surprisingly cool way) that he has nothing in common with the Joker. Revenge is not his style. Good Stuff!
Caroline Mohr Yes he still won. He brought Gotham’s white knight down to his level. But Batman took the blame for his murders so that Gotham could believe Dent died the Hero Gotham needed. And something cool to note is earlier in the film Dent took the blame for Batman and in the end Batman took the blame for Harvey. Not sure if that’s relevant but I like thinking it is.
6:37 That scared the crap out of me the first time and it still sends chills down my spine today! Heath, you were a great Joker. Rest in Peace, my dude.
11:39 Green Goblin begging Spider-Man to kill him and laughing harder the more Spider-Man punches him. That’s why that scene in No Way Home felt familiar and gave me chills.
How to fix this title in 3 steps: 1. Everything Great About The Dark Knight 2. Everything Great -About- The Dark Knight 3. Everything Great, The Dark knight.
Actually, I’ll have you know, when they were shooting Game of Thrones, there’s a scene - well there’s a few, but one in the first season specifically - where Tyrion slaps Joffrey 3 times in short succession. Jack Gleeson (who plays Joffrey) reportedly couldn’t get the "getting slapped" acting right, and thus told Dinklage (who plays Tyrion) to actually slap him for real. Which he then did. With all his golden rings still on.
I imagine him giving a cheeky wink to Joaquin while he wins his Oscar, as if a "not too shabby, Commodus". Two iconic portrayals in their own ways, flawless. Rest In peace Heath, and keep rising, Phoenix.

Ian Bauer Yes, the movie was well made with a great series of Easter eggs for the audience. But in this universe, the Joker was improvising, so the original idea holds true

The line "its not about what I want, its about what's fair" and "you thought we could be decent men in an indecent time" gives me chills everytime. Ledger, Eckhart, Oldman, and Bale were great in this film.
yeah
@Daniel Roberts I felt just like Gordon looked like he was feeling. Utterly destroyed by the fall of someone so good. Eckhart played that part so well. Ledger just had to go and give the performance of the century and upstage literally everyone else. But everyone in this film was spot on good.
mycroft16 Agreed. Personally , I think michael caine is underrated here.
Harvey shouting “you can’t give in” while half his face is visible and the other half in darkness. I love little moments like that in film.

Heath Ledger's voice acting through the whole movie deserves its own win. Looking back at old interviews his regular voice sounds most like Chris Hemsworth - deep with an Australian accent. Am I the only one that feels like in the start when the joker “miscalculated” the number of shots the banker had left in his shotgun. He actually knew he had one left, it was just easier for him to make the banker kill his goon
Probably, but it could also have been a sick joke on the Joker’s part.

Another film of his that is great is A Knight's Tale. Extremely talented actor, gone too early.
What makes this even sadder they wanted joker to return in rises and I think Ledger said he would but then he died rip
I realize this is super late, but it really feels like the Joker was fully expecting Harvey be batman. The little "hmm" when he sees the batmobile sounds quietly surprised. Like he expected the vigilante to burst out of the transport.
That confirms even more that he is "controlling" chaos or that he is chaos himself
I agree with your vision, specially because in the interrogation scene with Batman he says “you know for a while I really thought you were Harvey”. Which for me just solidifies what the video said about the Joker having lots of backup plans, he sees that Harvey isn’t Batman and just goes well here’s plan b then

Same here! Those goosebumps you get as the movie is starting can never be replicated!

All of what you said is something any true psychopath would be able to do.

Not to the USA. Only mainland China.

Agree! that scene is badass from start to finish
Also maybe a win on the scene where Bruce gives a nod to Reese after he saved his life in the Lambo crash. They both know he's the bat. :)
I don't think he nodded. I took his expression toward Reese to be something of a warning, in a "look what getting involved gets you" kind of way.

That line is a reference for Batman-Joker relation
Harvey Dent is such an underrated character. He was so well written as the hope of Gotham becoming a criminal that is driven by revenge. I rewatched this movie and felt sad that Harvey became Two Face even though I already knew it would happen. Man this film is great.

I 100% believe that Bruce Wayne would say the “I own the place” line
When Batman tells Joker to "let her go" you see confusion on his face, like for the first time he had something genuinely not go to plan, but work out for him anyway.
I always saw it as Joker seeing Batman as an above average intelligent adversary, so when Batman tells him to let her go, the look on his face was more "Really? i thought you were smarter than that".
Let her go.... Could be a nod to bruces love for rachel maybe
There are 3 things that really stand out for me in this movie:
1. the Joker (surprise)
2. this violin that gets more and more intense when the scene gets more and more intense
3. that this movie does not seem to end bc theres always another ace up in the jokers sleeves
The fact, “I’m not wearing hockey pads,” didn’t make the win counter go up like 50 makes me upset.

Mark Hamill Joker is the most iconic of all Joker, that's fair
Jack Nicholson is a terrific mob boss Joker, sure
but Heath Ledger Joker is just bone chilling cruel with that maniacal laugh of his
Then we have Jared Leto's Joker, the only one legitimately in love with Harley Quinn and not just using her.
And Cameron Monaghan's Joker, the ultimate hybrid love-baby between Hamill's and Ledger's.
Heath Leger is still the best out of all of them, but each and every one of them stand out in their own unique way that just makes them unforgettable.
Jared Leto's Joker being in love with Harley is what ruins his character.
Explanation time(This got long, sorry):
1) Leto's Joker was only manipulating Harley right from the start like how he normally does, but upon that moment right before he fried her brain when she told how she felt, he paused because he didn't realize just how strong her feelings were. I.E. he thought that she would immediately hate him or beg him to stop upon his attack, but she just went through with it, because she truly loved him; something he NEVER anticipated was that she would still love him.
Matthew Crombie I can't believe that I read your whole comment

Arthur is one of jokers back stories (maybe) and its about how he becomes the joker you clearly don't understand the movie if you say its overrated. I thought it was a great way to show how joker was born but the movie leaves so many things left open that you don't know if anything is real like joker says "if I would have it choose my own story then I'd prefer multiple choice" or something along those lines Joker is about how he became not Joker in his prime like Heath's Joker was
This movie still holds up especially because even after 13 years it still feels like a breath of fresh air in the superhero movie genre.
I saw the dark knight so many times, but I still find details in many scenes I never recognized before.

Ultimately, Jokers full plan was completed in full by Bane when he read Gordon’s Anniversary Speech (in the football stadium).
I mean Joker had won either way.
This should have been the movie.
Tanuki that was the movie. Didn’t you see it?
Shane Stachwick Lol, I mean that should have been the focus, or the message of the movie. We're getting a Venom movie, but I want a Joker movie with that plot and a better outcome for the Joker.
damn man, that's a good analysis. I myself think joker in a way is actually a hero and batman acts more like a limiter of what joker can do before thing gets out of hand.
Chaos is an agent for change, but it can't be controlled by the ones who want to keep the power. That's why it is shown as a villain.
One of my favourite parts is him falling off the building at 15:46
As the Joker Said “in their last moments, people show you who they really are” and jokers final moment (or what he though would be) he is just laughing maniacally
Not even Cinemawins can show the true beauty of this movie but they come pretty damn close
Did you steal that from Movies With Mikey?
6:37 That scared the crap out of me the first time and it still sends chills down my spine today! Heath, you were a great Joker. Rest in Peace, my dude.
