Greece is amazing and the people there were so friendly, I'm dying to go back one day and see more of it. Just spent a few days in Athens and in Santorini. Both absolutely amazing despite the fact the airport in Santorini was one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had. But it's a beautiful island and more than worth the bad airport experience.

Hey Mark, when was this video recorded? Are you there now or was this recorded last year? I'm thinking of going back sometime this summer. I heard they are opening up to tourism on June 15th, but not sure how hard it might be to get into the country with a US passport due to the coronavirus situation. Hard to get clear info on who is allowed to go and what things are really like now.
Hey Gabe. Sadly I'm not there now. This is one I hadn't edited from our last trip there. So sadly not in Greece like I was hoping for this summer. We will be doing some US travel later in the summer. Europe is most likely our fall plans. Hope you can get over there
I've had a heck of a time trying to get any guidance from anyone on what is allowed and not allowed. Most have said they aren't sure what it will be and it will depend on your passport. I know some EU countries are opening to EU citizens soon but non-EU haven't been given really any info (like you said) a bit frustrating to say the least
hi there, from Greece. From what we hear on the news, it's about the airport of origin, flights are opening from certain countries, but it's all over the place for us as well. Right now I would recommend to wait, honestly, if you are flying from so far away. I would say After August - September it will be clear though, so better plan for then. I work in the tourism industry (used to anyway...) and I know that there are crazy vacancies that are not going to be filled in any way, so chances are the prices are going to stay low, so don't worry much about last minute (which from the states might mean two weeks prior). But for more details, honestly, we don't even know. They are saying new things every day.

A few comments and questions. You mentioned the need for an international driver's license when driving a car. You might also want to mention to viewers the rules regarding the rental of a scooter (common on islands). There is a rule that requires people from some places, like the US, to have a "motorcycle" designation on the international driver's license. Even if the scooter is under 50 cc. You don't need a motorcycle license to ride a scooter in the US which is under 50 cc. (at least in the states I know about). But in Greece, you DO need that designation on the license (they want the international driver's license as well). Apparently places were letting it slide, but the Greek government is cracking down on that. The fines are huge for both the rider and the rental place, and the scooters will be seized by the government after, I believe, the 3rd occurrence. If a place DOES rent it to you illegally, the insurance on the bike will not apply. I think that the EU's driver's license has various designations for motorcycles and scooters and is based on the engine "cc". However, the US does not have a separate "scooter" designation for licenses (at least in every state I checked). So you have to get a "real" motorcycle license - which sucks since most just want to put around on a scooter. Even if the states start having a separate designation for scooters, it will take the US government working with other world organizations to establish a designation to be used on the international driver's licenses. Right now, for passenger vehicles, the main ones for international driver's licenses are "A" (motorcycles) and "B" (cars). I have heard that it might be possible to rent an electric scooter without an international driver's license, but I have not confirmed that. What should one consider bringing as a gift if visiting a Greek family? What if it's just a Greek individual or couple? I agree with you that it usually makes more sense to fly than take a long ferry. However, some islands can only be accessed via ferry. So one strategy is to take a flight to the closest island which has a ferry that can be taken to the destination. I like the fact that you had a native Greek on this video, too. Nice work on the videos!

Normally speaking I would critique the person making a video about Greece saying "What to know before visiting Greece" or "Best places in Greece". Because really, me after visiting Greece 50 times, and because I love this country so much having researched the heck out of it for 10 years, I can tell that most people saying things like "top 10 places in Greece!!!" is just pure nonsense and just shows that 98% of these people know nothings of Greece. However. I think you're clear and well informed Wolter's world. And that begs to question. If anyone really think that Greece are these top 10 places from various random youtubers, then you basically miss out on 99% of Greece that is never even taken into account in their "selection". Yes granted, these places mentioned in the video's are heaven. But Greece is a truly magnificent country and a collection of paradises. The fact alone that Greece is 80% mountains is one of it's *most underrated and biggest secret* out there. Greece is a landscape and mountain heaven. And there are so many places on the mainland and on the 6000 other islands that will leave anyone breathless every single new day.
I was ment to fly to corfu yesterday but because of covid 19 our holiday was cancelled this was my first holiday abroad in 15 years and my kids and my girlfriends first time abroad so it's a bit annoying to say the least . but to top it off I was walking through town today and there was a stool selling Greek food then I see this video..... Talk about rubbing salt in the wound hahaha hopefully some of the advice will come in handy if we can rebook the holiday next year.
I went on a boat tour in Greece with one immense ouzo bottle for the tour group. Nobody else liked the licorice taste of this drink and the bottle stayed cradled between my legs. I was sick for the next day or so. I hope I learned my lesson!
Greece is definitely on my bucket list, just a little intimidating regarding the language, etc. I've obviously done some US traveling but not much international. I did have a Greek boyfriend in my twenties (born here but parents from Greece) but didn't manage to learn much (besides the food!) and certainly can't read it, lol.
Dont worry about the language ,almost everyone speaks muliple languages and also there are signs written in English everywere, so that wont be an issue
Don’t worry about it. We’re about the same. Stay away from the ghetto’s/trailer parks. Don’t buy anything out of someone’s trunk, don’t murder, don’t drink and drive.
About wifi... The least touristic places have the greatest internet connection. Places like Karditsa, and in general Thessaly, Kalamata etc have really huge average connection speeds. But the islands, not that much. In fact is kind of bad.
0:33 The last 10 years have portrayed Greece as this kind of falling apart, poverty-stricken, they've got nothing, just taxes and everything underneath them...1:10 English is widely spoken, we're talking like Scandinavia widely spoken... 2:31 We've been eating here in the tourist places, a meal for 4 for like 60 euros...we were in the villages in Greece, we were eating for 6 people for like 30, 40 euros... 4:31 If you do get a chance to go to somebody's house, do go and believe me they'll feed you like crazy but do bring them a gift when you do go there. 9:25 It's like the whiskey but instead of making it from grains they make it after the first pressing of grapes.
Well better make sure if visiting islands have a very decent. Bag with decent wheels not cheep one the reason why it’s important that bag will be your car since many roads too small to fit and not many has a proper road and markets are great worth you will try to get lost Lifts are really dodgy some don’t go to the correct floor and Manul door doors won’t open automatically and if there are two well that can be fun you can catch one and have a mate in the other. Talk they are tiny one person really with one bag
It looks like Hawaii will be one of the last places to reopen for tourists. The Hawaiian government is trying to discourage tourists, and reorient the Hawaiian economy away from tourism.
Athens is a beautiful city, my favorite one including the islands such as Mykonos, Santorini, Milos, Crete and Paros. My only one complain is some people in those cities, I found some rude and weird servers at the restaurants and bars (racists) I’m no sure but they were with me 🤷🏻♂️ speaking from my experience, I found crazy rude people. But I still love that country and those beautiful cities and 100000% sure I’ll go back sometime in the future. PS: In 2017 I rented a car in Santorini for 3 days and I showed them the New York City Driver License only, did they change the rules and now they accept International Driver license only?
In my experience Raki i only on Crete. They have othere names other names for it in the rest of Greece. Raki is also the name of a drink similar to ouzo in Turkey so when I ordered Raki on Samos I got some very angry eyes from the waiter. (turkey and greece is not the best friends) :-)
Yes, raki is more popular in Crete. If you want to go to other places in Greece and drink something similar to raki, you order "τσίπουρο" (tsipuro). There are two types of tsipuro, one with anise (more common in North Greece) and one without anise. You can choose what you want most of the times. The incident with the waiter is unfortunate but maybe he was just rude in general. Not every Greek hates the Turks.
Even a falling apart Greece is still better than most countries.
Like which countries?
Greece isn't falling apart. It's economically much better now.

Sorry Jay :( that sucks
@@woltersworld it dose but lots of people have had it so much worse keep the good content coming cheers
Heeey there, greetings from Corfu man, hope to see you sometime later this year or next!
I went on a boat tour in Greece with one immense ouzo bottle for the tour group. Nobody else liked the licorice taste of this drink and the bottle stayed cradled between my legs. I was sick for the next day or so. I hope I learned my lesson!
I’m so sad I was supposed to go to Greece in June, then pushed it to Sept and now we had to push it to sept 21 😢
I hope to go on October 1st
Loved it.
Bring them a gift like what when visiting a home?
You mentioned earlier that there is a lot of strikes in Greece. What is the situation now days?

Happy birthday to you!!!
0.46 I can image the person with the long blonde hair and head band as a younger version of Mark back in his student days🤣
What part of Greece is Jocelyn's family from?
Greece is definitely on my bucket list, just a little intimidating regarding the language, etc. I've obviously done some US traveling but not much international. I did have a Greek boyfriend in my twenties (born here but parents from Greece) but didn't manage to learn much (besides the food!) and certainly can't read it, lol.
Dont worry about the language ,almost everyone speaks muliple languages and also there are signs written in English everywere, so that wont be an issue
Is this an old video? I'm hoping to go in August and wanted to get some feedback. Had my tickets since January and don't have the heart to cancel yet!
Wolters World if u can can u plz do more don't of America bc my cousins are coming from Toronto and I will like for them to do and don't
Don’t worry about it. We’re about the same. Stay away from the ghetto’s/trailer parks. Don’t buy anything out of someone’s trunk, don’t murder, don’t drink and drive.
Travelling during corona?
Anyone know where this church and tower is at 7:44?
About wifi... The least touristic places have the greatest internet connection. Places like Karditsa, and in general Thessaly, Kalamata etc have really huge average connection speeds. But the islands, not that much. In fact is kind of bad.
Greek brandy mostly at someone memorial service.
Yeah, I guess our driver's licenses can be weird to other countries, 50 different cards for one country.
Road scholar v Tauck?
For older first time visitor?? Thanks
They are protesting here too (USA).
Well better make sure if visiting islands have a very decent. Bag with decent wheels not cheep one the reason why it’s important that bag will be your car since many roads too small to fit and not many has a proper road and markets are great worth you will try to get lost
Lifts are really dodgy some don’t go to the correct floor and Manul door doors won’t open automatically and if there are two well that can be fun you can catch one and have a mate in the other. Talk they are tiny one person really with one bag
Is the sun in Greece really that strong, or just by European standards?
Ooh, roll that R
Ok i am a native spanish speaker. No problem learning language
11:07 on -- LOL!
Yasou Migalie..
Your wife is veery beautiful. Congrats for the lovely vlogs
when i get yassis i feel kalos
I’ve rented a car in Greece multiple times and have never needed an IDL.
I need you to go to Hawaii so I can plan my trip there :D
It looks like Hawaii will be one of the last places to reopen for tourists. The Hawaiian government is trying to discourage tourists, and reorient the Hawaiian economy away from tourism.
I would love to :)
The Best Greece is the real Greece meaning the none of tourists.
