My MS250 has been a great little chain saw for many, many years. I got it because of the weight, I have back problems. Love cutting wood for exercise, but would also like more power. Will have to check out the MS261C. Thanks !!
Hey man, the C stands for pro so it's definitely a worthy tool. I've never used anything smaller other than my first 023 found put out for scrap or the living/ climber saws ms ot ts170, so I cant compare small saws, but just about everything about the 261C is bulky, even for me who is very comfortable with heavy lifting. One unique aspect of my wood cutting is that I need a saw that is on the light side to navigate my random wood piles. I have to walk around and climb through the wood pile while cutting, as opposed to facing one way and cutting up full length logs. Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Thata probably the biggest saw I'd buy, I would only have anything bigger than what I have if I was cutting 3 ft average diameter consistently Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Especially with my random length, randomly piled wood piles, as opposed to llog truck poles. I can maneuver through my wood pile like a ballerina with it!
@OpenAirAdventureFirewood I think they're perfect. Always starts, minimal repair, they only fall short if the user isnt sufficient with keeping it prime. Merry Christmas and happy new year!
@OntarioFirewoodResource keep an eye on the fuel solenoid if it's mtronic. Some guys are burning up there saws from not changing out the fuel solenoid. Just a rumor at the moment but something to look into.
I've got the MS250. Had it for about 10 years now. Great saw, but I have been considering upgrading to a slightly larger saw. I too cut some large blocks (just bucked up some red oak that measured 32" at my largest cut) and it really tests the limits of my little saw. I would love to be able to run a 20" bar -- which isn't available for my MS250. My dad's old saw is 95cc (twice the size of my saw) and although I do grab it for the really big blocks, it is a beast to carry around. Thanks for the review and happy holidays.
Hey. You will be happy with the upgrade. This saw is perfectly right in the middle. Ive never ran a 20 inch bar and while i get big wood, i never have to worry about not cutting through...wood diameter is usually maxed out at 3.5 feet. Worst case scrnario, i chop off some with the axe to finish cutting the centee. My wood isnusually bucked up and random lenths, this sae is light enough to make it easy to hop or creep around the wood pile while cutting.. thanks for watching and have a merry Christmas and happy new year.
My 461s are great saws. Got the 1st one in early 2020 a few years later 99% of all my firewood is cut by these 2 saws.😉👍 Merry Christmas to you and your family Anthony.
@DanielAtkinsFirewood ya for sure! Even though you get big diameter, you're laughing because so much of your wood is less dense than hardwood. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your family.
I have a old Stihl 027 a Stihl 028 & a 290 but hardly ever use them my firewood is already cut up by tree service guys, years ago parks board would pile up logs & I would cut them up that's gone now!
My first saws were an 023 and 032. They came in for scrap at my neighbour's and I got em going. Both died ( I was using non stihl engine oil mix) when I wss trying to finish off two 40 yard bin loads of green boiler wood and firewood before a fishing trip My girlfriend at the time said let's go to the dealer and pick up a new saw. I was so happy about grabbing my first 261C. The wood I get I'm often cut so uneven. Very frustrating with all the different lengths, even when the tree cutter is volunteering to cut it right for you. I once told a guy that the wood has to be cut at least 16 inch and the crew went and cut everything around 22 to 26 inch, what a waste. Then when I saw 4 feet is good so that I can do the cutting, they cut all the bigger diameter at 4 ft and then they're hard to load into the truck. Another problem is when they think they cut 16 inch, but it's really 12 or 13 inch. I tell them that if thata 16 inch, then your d1ck must be 9 inch 🤣🤣
Yes very much so. I dont know what the differences are but the C designation indicates his pro-fitted. If one is not using a chainsaw much, both the 251 and 261 are almost overkill
I told the dealer that I need a saw for firewood and that I get big diameter woos and he told me that it has plenty of power. It is the perfect saw to anyone except the fanatical power junkies.
@DustyJohnson-tg7fi 362 and up are good for if you always have big wood and your cutting long logs in sequence. For me, a lighter saw is better because although the wood is mostly bunked when I acquire it, I still have to do a lot of cutting in a pile of randomlengths and diameters, so I have to be nimble like a boxer, prancing around the wood pile, leaning this way or that way, so reaching out and articulating my arms is much easier for balance with something on the lighter side
@OntarioFirewoodResource I do alot more big wood than small but still nice to have a lighter saw. Had i did my homework I'd have the 261 instead of the 251 cbe. Simply because that saw would be in my hands at all times except when times get really tough.
Still miss my 261. You’re spot on the way you described it
It's the layman's get er done saw that musters up it's own version of Toyota truck affinity syndrome. Merry Christmas Joe!

I got the 290, a good 10 years still working great, nice score on the wood, 🚜👍

Agreed great saw for firewood!

Great video. Very credible and trustworthy information. Mind your back… those big rounds are risky. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! Bending while cutting is starting to bother me. I would like to have a second bigger saw for big woos, probably a 500i, if not then a 462
The 261 is a great little all-rounder
I didnt.consider anything else when I was replacing my old one. The dealer was right when he recommended it from me.
They are great powersaws

@OpenAirAdventureFirewood ok thanks, I think that applies to the C-M model, that's just a good guess at best
@OntarioFirewoodResource does you saw have carb adjustments?

@OntarioFirewoodResource : I have a little red oak here and fir the same size
I was thinking of a West Coast vs. East Coast splitting.
@DanielAtkinsFirewood ya for sure, that'll get some views
@OntarioFirewoodResource : I hope so, but figure it will be up forever even if it flops..
Ya stuff like that stays in the feed

I have the 251 it’s fairly similar
Yes very much so. I dont know what the differences are but the C designation indicates his pro-fitted. If one is not using a chainsaw much, both the 251 and 261 are almost overkill
I run the 251 for small wood and the 362 for bigger stuff I've looked at the 261 but just never pulled the trigger on it
I told the dealer that I need a saw for firewood and that I get big diameter woos and he told me that it has plenty of power. It is the perfect saw to anyone except the fanatical power junkies.
Got me on that on I was going to go bigger but for the type of cutting I do I couldn't justify that so I'll stick to what I've got 😁
