    I’ve only ever played like one half of 2 separate mainline DQ games but their spinoffs are SO GOOD! Monsters, Builders and Treasures are all just so good. Treasures is like one of my most played games of all time. It just hits that sweet spot between chill relaxing game that makes me happy but isn’t boring like a farm game or something. And DQ Monsters is excellent! I compare it to Monster Hunter Stories rather than Pokemon. Honestly the entire franchise is solid entertainment. They’re not really life changing games but will for sure give you 100s of hours of entertainment easily.

    I like DQM more than pokemon, and i am a big pokemon fan. Sadly i am totally done with DQM:TDP done everything there is to do have 99% of all monsters now and most of them are level 100.
    Easy way to get monsters to level 100 is to jump amons zone outside and also where you fight doplh the destroyer, you are able to find king metal slime and killing him with physical attacks will net you over 500K exp and if you find a large one its over 1M exp so really good way to farm fast exp, besides you are able to find really rare eggs while hunting king metal slime 😊

      Same, best game out of the franchise. I like how there wasn't any stat caps and the stat curves with monsters allowed for you to make any target monster stronger. I always loved seeing +20 attack + 20 defense for the first 20 levels on a monster to be used to breed with something like a Tropicgel that maintained balanced stats all the way to 99.

    This is a Switch Exclusive, so that adds a couple points to the review IMO.
    For now, it's looking like Dragon Quest Monsters is better than Pokémon. I don't get that feeling of spite out of Tose like I do out of The Pokémon Company. TPC genuinely seems like they hate that their players have been asking them for a full-fledged home-console Pokémon RPG experience, while Dragon Quest Monsters' devs just came out of nowhere to deliver on that, even going the extra distance and tying it into the main-line Dragon Quest 4.

    "and after you defeat them there's a chance they might come back and ask you to let them join you...which makes absolutely zero sense"
    Ok, explain why it doesn't make sense according to you
    Monsters in DQ aren't just mindless brutes, they are sentient beings with their own personalities and ideals, why is it so hard for you to entertain the idea that a monster was impressed at Psaro's combat prowess and just decided to join him out of respect and fascination? How is this complex? How is this even an issue? Or do you just think it doesn't make sense because it doesn't happen in the Pokemon games?
    Man, you're obnoxious

    Very good, and very fair review. The only minor quibble I had was that while I do very much agree with your observations about the graphics, I do feel that the actual character models for the monsters are generally quite good with a decent variety of animations to help keep things fresh when using different movesets in combat. But otherwise, like I said before, very good review.
    And yes, I’ve played every DQM game that’s come to the west since they first launched over here. It’s part of why I was so excited for this one.

    • @koobsmooth

    • @RedGryz
      @RedGryz 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@koobsmooth The best? No, you’re absolutely right that MHS2 looks much better. It was more an observation, particularly in light of the comparisons to Pokemon, that the models do generally look good and have a decent variety of animations, not a claim of strict or objective superiority.

    • @koobsmooth
      @koobsmooth 9 месяцев назад

      @@RedGryz I appreciate the response cause I am kinda struggling over here. I loved the first JOKER but havent played the JOKER sequels. I am thinking that maybe I just let this most recent one be for a while and pick up an older much cheaper DQ monster game instead. The Dark Prince is a pretty penny and why shouldnt I think the Dark Prince Professional is right around the corner with all of the DLC already included on the cartridge? Anyway, thanks for the comments.

    • @RedGryz
      @RedGryz 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@koobsmooth Ah, I misunderstood your question. I thought you were talking about graphical fidelity on the switch. I don’t know which one I would honestly rate as the best (bearing in mind I haven’t played Joker 3 since that never came over here through official means). If there is a Professional edition (other than the digital deluxe edition, I should specify), I would honestly be shocked if we got it just based on the history there. The DLC, while useful, doesn’t add any monsters to the game that aren’t already present, it just gives you convenience features for grinding and scouting/synthing via access to convenient grind dungeons for both purposes (the chest DLC is just semi-useful consumables on a time basis). Anyway, if you’ve played Joker already, then I don’t think you could go wrong with Joker 2, the 3DS remake of Terry’s Wonderland (which you’ll have to get through unofficial means if you don’t speak Japanese), or The Dark Prince (Again, can’t speak to Joker 3). If you want to get in on the ground floor for the competitive scene, though, and enjoy a Monsters game for the public element (which isn’t really possible on the older games anymore), then definitely get this and soon.

    Have been playing this even in the older systems, and not a super fan of the size system as the old ones are easier to digest.
    Agree with the DLCs being a little sketchy but still a very addicting game with or without it :)
    One tip about the arena / tournament matches where you cannot control your monsters is that you can also change the frequency a monster uses his move, use it a lot, use it sometimes, and never.
    With this, it will be easier to “predict” how your monsters will act.
    You also need to always consider the traits of the monster with your moveset to have maximum effect whether damage or status.
    See you in online battles :)

    for me monsters has always been the best trainer out there better than pokemon better than shin megami tensei better than digimon just the best ive played every monsters and joker game and the dark prince is by far the best of the bunch sure its missing some of the of my favorites form joker 3/pro but it added quite a few of my newer favorite monster bosses form dragon quest XI that it kinda makes up for it lol
    for me what makes it the best is firstly mole hole even if it is dlc its such a huge improvement of the crap of the past games to re get monsters second is quick match online battles theyre great and a great source of seeds and monsters with unique skillsets (got a rank b monster today with perfect speller and supreme healer which im guessing are endgame sets considering what they offer) and it not needing a online sub to access and thirdly and lastly everything is obtainable solo no trading no online bullcrap with pokemon im done after the main story i dont give two craps about online batting/trading and theres no point is trying to 100% a pokemon game because as i know ill never be able to do it because of my playstyle

    I think it was a fair review. I really don't like comparing pokemon to this series because it's a totally different type of battle mechanic and catching mechanic. I would compare it to the older games and explain what it was built around in the first place. Comparing it to Shin Megami Tensie is very fair especially SMT5. The colloseum or tournament battle systems have always had it to where you needed no control of your monsters and let their own nature's take over. The synthesis and music will always be a big staple for this series. Adding something a little extra is a great thing but is what fans come to expect from the DQM formula. Awesome review keep up the good work.

    One thing I would like to know is the build variety in monsters you can make. Is there a lot of variety and many options for moves and abilities you can pick from, or are there just a load of variations of damage moves and healing moves, with some general buffs thrown in?
    For instance in Persona or SMT games, you can fuse support style demons, attackers, healers, ones that focus on crits, debuffing the enemy, etc. Do you get that in this game or do monsters only do like 2 things each?

    • @rockmanfan5104

      Each monster has a few skill lists it can go down. They aren't skill trees but lists. You can put points into them as you like. Each monster has a few of these so 2 monsters might not have the same 2. You can fuse monsters and select what skill list you want to carry over. If 2 monsters share the same skill you carry more points over for that skill than you would with 2 different Learnsets

    • @le-mars
      @le-mars 9 месяцев назад +2

      There are multiple elemental skills, physical skills, buffs, heals, and debuff trees that can be transferred to any monster through synthesis. There is a very large variety, and because they evolve and you can put three trees on a mon , it’s basically infinite combinations.
      Ontop of that, each mon has their own unique set of “talents” which are three passive skills that unlock at certain levels that can be used to synergy with your own build. There is a lot of freedom in the game.

    The reason I bring you this today SE is because after two hundred hours of which almost half is dedicated to ranked pvp I have suffered more likely racist disconnects then defeats. It is clearly being used as a racist feature, or abuse feature in general to make sure NO ONE can EVER rank.
    DQM3 suffers from major fraud because of a massive oversight by SE. If someone closes their game, or force closes their internet it AUTOMATICALLY makes YOU de-rank forcing you to de-rank for reasons such as, bias, jealousy, ignorance, racism, and more. This massive oversight is being used AS A FEATURE to abuse everyone in ranked with disconnects that sometimes even force your internet to crash as well.
    This oversight MUST be acknowledged, for the entire ranked community is ruined because of it. You are ALL basically using racism, and rage quits to make sure NO ONE can actually gain rank in game ruining the entire ranked system permanently until fixed or acknowledged. THIS MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED for it is disgusting. I'm here to bring this to light.

    *Pokemon:* This kid you become friends with needs to get special herbs to heal his dying dog, who got injured because the guy went to find his mom/dad in a dangerous section of the region. Only to find out later that his mom/dad was dead all along, and also planned to introduce monsters/machines from another time to the region, destroying its ecosystem. Hes also made to say goodbye to his mom/dad again via an AI clone, which sacrifices itself to save the region.
    *DQM Dark Prince:* you meet a tribe of Golems who are all sitting around in the desert, waiting to erode away, because they would all rather die than serve an evil wizard that lives in a temple nearby, who has them all cursed into eternal servitude. You beat the guy to free the golems, only to find that they all died anyway, making it all for nothing, unless you consider the thought that maybe this was what counted as freedom for them all along. _AND THIS IS IN ONLY ONE WORLD OUT OF NINETEEN!_

    I would say no. It's kind of garbage. The story is skewed and the plot is poorly polished. At times I would wonder if I'd missed some parts of the story elsewhere after certain choices or dialogues. It just feels like the story jumps all over, with huge gaps between that lacks information; and the 'silent protag' gimmick makes things worse since you have no idea what's happening in between the dialogues. Makes you wonder how this got the approval to go on the market.
    *Spoiler
    For example, you're asked to give up your demon blood, but rejection in doing so equates to you wanting to destroy humanity even if there was no precedence prior. So what? If I'm a black man and decide that I want to keep my skin color, it means that I hate white folks and want their destruction? Wtf is up with that logic? Again, this is due to the 'silent protag' gimmick. I'd reckon if there was dialogue from the MC this might make a little more sense. Furthermore, there were interactions/choices that would allow you to renounce the destruction of humanity, but when choosing said option, your enemy (the good guys) tells you that they see through your lies. Llike, wtf? Don't leave that option in there then if you're going to come up with ridiculous 'explanations' to set you on the path of evil. That option wasn't even necessary and would make things a lot less confusing. Later story writing were also pretty bad, from someone trying to be Psaro's imposter, the sorry excuse of the 'hero' whom so clearly saw that it was the Psaro imposter who destroyed his village (he had to have known, because he was constantly fleeing for his life), to the kidnapping of the elf.
    All in all, this is one sorry excuse of a game where choices do not matter at all. The game just forces you into a singular path that they want you to take using pathetic excuses and reasonings, regardless of the choices you made. If monster synthesis and proper storyline is what you're after, go Shin Megami Tensei instead. DQM is kinda trash imo.

    I'll definitely be buying this soon, but not before I finish Dragon Quest XI, which I've finally had the opportunity to play.
    Is there a Japanese voice acting option, by the way? I'm not particularly an English-dub-hater nor an original soundtrack/voice acting "simp", but recently, I mean, at least in comparison to Dragon Quest VIII, the English voice acting has become a tad cringe-inducing.

    idk, performance wise and visuals-wise, it's like a cross between Sword and Shield's sort of older cel-shaded look with none of Scarlet and Violet's more modern shaders, smaller areas, and similar performance. Personally, I don't care but to call a spade a spade this runs about as poorly as Scarlet and Violet, and yes the Switch is a large part of the problem. Any game that has a lot of AI characters rendering on-screen at once causes the Switch to shit itself.
