  • For decades, thousands of vulnerable migrants have been enslaved onboard untraceable Thai fishing boats lingering far out in international waters. These men are cheated into dangerous, unpaid labour, then beaten, starved and worked round the clock. Those who manage to escape find themselves trapped on remote Indonesian islands with no way of getting home. Governments are now cracking down on this brutal industry with new rules being put in place. But as the world's insatiable appetite for low-cost seafood persists, perpetrators are finding ways to navigate the restrictions. And the cycle of poverty continues to push the most vulnerable members of society back into bonded labour. Those working to rescue them are confronted with death threats from groups profiting from this multi-billion dollar industry, as well as corruption and complacency from the authorities.

Everywhere you turn in this world... in every nook and cranny lays evil, & cruelty. The pain and sadness humans can inflict on the most vulnerable group is sickening. Fair play to those who reach out and help the victims.

Several years ago, I met a construction worker who used to work at fishing ship owned by Thai.
He literally said they were pirates, armed with gun and canon. They even catch tons of bait fishes, then dump it again in bags, simply to destroy local fisheries.
    How he escape that hell?
When he and a friend tasked to buy supplies to the land (Sumatra), they killed the guard, dump him to the sea, and drown the boat after landing.

Just stop eating fish. The nice taste of it isn’t worth all these negative side affects of fishing. The gouvernment should finally take responsibility and take serious measures such as forbid eating fish. That would be so beneficial or begin with abondaning fish from restaurants. What is worth more, eating fish of seriously rescueing the planet and reduce human slavery at sea??? Foolish people we are.

What's up with all this blame on capitalism? Have people forgotten the state-owned coops in the communist era that lead to mass starvation? The screen you are watching this youtube video on was made by a company looking for a profit. Capitalism provides a strong motivational force to innovate - don't judge capitalism based on a small percentage of exploitive criminals.
