We just hired an employee who is deaf. I want him to feel comfortable and as his supervisor, I’m determined to be able to communicate with him. Thank you!
The way you explain, put into context with a sentence or example, then repeat several times and finish with the spoken word and sign have made this 10000000 times easier for me to learn online. I have used basic sign for infant communication for 12+ years but in 2 days have more than doubled the amount of signs I know and now use regularly. Keep posting, keep sharing, and your page will grow! I’m sure of it! My ADHD brain is so relieved having found this page! Thank you so so so much!
I want to learn ASL and I take all that you teach me in your videos and practice them all throughout the day. By doing this I even practice with my family. Whenever I see my dad I sign "Hi dad" and he signs "Hi beautiful" and I teach him the different signs I learned from your videos. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! 😊 You're absolutely right. You will not become fluent here. This page is primarily for vocabulary to assist you with communicating. As with learning any language, you really need to immerse yourself in the community. Signing up for an "in-person" ASL class or program should help a lot if you wish to pursue it.
So happy I just came across your post. I took 3 semesters in college year's ago but it's hard when you're not using it on a regular basis. I think everyone should at least learn the basics. You never know when you may need to use ASL. I have been in a situation where I was able to help someone that was deaf but I've also been in a situation where I needed it to be able to communicate after a mini stroke. Thanks again😉
Thank you for watching! You’re right. There are plenty of great reasons to learn ASL. I’m sorry you suffered a stroke but I’m happy to know you were able to communicate while you were healing.
@@ASLLOVE you are quite welcome. My niece is deaf, can read lips and has asked us to learn ASL. We have had 12 Zoom classes, but your videos do help as well. 🤟
I really wanna learn ASL (even though there's nobody to practice it with lol) and your videos have helped me a ton no real reason or whatever just wanted you to know that your videos are cool and you deserve more subs :DDD
Thanks so much for the support! I really appreciate it. I know that having someone to sign with would help a lot but don't let it stop you. Keep practicing and learning. You've got this! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for the amazing videos; I've just started learning ASL and have found your videos are very easy to understand. You state the word and present the sign clearly so it is easy to follow. I appreciate that you do a few repetitions so I can try it and then you move on. Some people videos go on and on until you want to skip forward, which inevitably gets you lost in the middle of the next section. I find I can follow along in your videos and then replay a couple of times and I've got it down. If I need a few more tries on just one sign your videos make it easy to jump right to the section I would like to re-watch. I have one question about the sign for "help". You show how to make the sign by placing your dominant hand in a thumbs up on your other palm and then bring them both up. Next you say if when "help" used directionally you have the thumbs-up-on-palm and bring it towards yourself or towards the direction of the task/area with which you need help. My question is, when using "help" directionally, do you bring your hands straight towards yourself or do you bring them up and in towards yourself/up and in at a diagonal? Basically, do you still bring the hands Up? Sorry for what I'm sure is a very rudimentary question and thank you again for your videos. I'm hoping to get familiarized with some basic ASL signs before taking a course in the spring and your content is great.
That is a great question and thank you for watching! I can see how when it is signed repeatedly, it may appear to have a slight upward/diagonal movement to it. That is not necessary. Straight back towards yourself, or the person/task that you are referring to is correct. If you do happen to sign it with a slight diagonal or upward movement , the meaning will not change so don’t worry about that too much (but of course I understand that you want to sign it correctly). It’s a learning curve and I’m happy to know that my videos are working for you.
You have done more to improve me, im not a very good person but im trying to be a better one. And it’s only been a half hour! I was taught the alphabet as a child and its easy for me to spell out, but I definitely need more complete signs. I am not deaf, but I could always spell with those who are but you know it gets a bit nerve wracking for a whole conversation 😂. Thank you so much! Do you have a patreon? I hope so. You’re beautiful! May God bless you many times over .
Thank you so much for the kind words. You are right, knowing the alphabet is a must because you can spell anything and communicate what you are trying to say. The signs will come the more you practice. Keep up the great work! (I do not have a patreon account).
Taking basic ASL in a group, total immersion style which is great, but I am using your videos for refresh and practice. THANK YOU for the repetitive signing and signing from different directions.
@@carlos3803 Hello and thanks for watching. ASL is not universal. For almost every spoken language, there is also a signed language (including dialects).
Thanks again. I have seen a deaf woman who uses the letter "B" handshape along with a salute to say hello as well. Is that an acceptable alternative sign to the two signs you show in this video?
Hello and thanks for watching. The way your friend signs hello is correct. It would be the way that it is taught (B handshape/open B handshape are all fine). The sign for hello can be done in any way that you would naturally wave hi to someone as well.
I have tiny bites and pieces of sign language. I was trying to help an employee at a store with a customer that started to yell at him because he thought he was being ignored. Long story short I used the wrong sign for deaf… I signed using a letter d going from my ear to chin, but later remember it was just supposed to be my index finger…. Did I say something offensive?
This is a great question. In my opinion, I see no reason why you wouldn't have been understood. What you did is very similar to how it should be signed. The sign is taught using your index finger, but if you relax your hand in any way I think it looks like the letter "D." Maybe your dominant hand was completely on your cheek? You may have had the placement a little high, but still, nothing offensive that I'm aware of.
hey i cant lower my finger close to my pinky is there any way to say i love you another way or should i use my other hand to lower the finger it got injured in a street fight
That’s a great question and I have a colleague with the same problem. She continues to use her dominant hand because it feels natural and of course is a habit. There is nothing wrong with using your other hand if you prefer. See how you feel about it.

Great question! “Good” and “thank you” are the same sign. There is the version of good which incorporates your base hand. You can use that version if you want extra clarity. Most often, the context of the conversation will determine the meaning.
This is a great question, but not the easiest to answer. There are a variety of ways you could sign this but it would depend on what you are referring to. For a test ex: line - blank - correct - answer - write.
