It is amazing that you had this opportunity. Just recently found that he is a long past relative. Wasn't expecting to see something on that level. It is good that he has been given an appropriate burial. Probably smiling down on you from the Heavens.💗
I think that it was destiny, they found him under an R on the car park and it was the first thing they found. He was waiting to be found and now his relative has designed and built his coffin nearly 500 years later... what do you think that happens by shear chance?
Destiny...his status was stolen from him....and his death was brutal and humiliating...then thrown into the ground like a dog... How funny it is...that justice finally came 500yrs later...to be vindicated from all the evil done and spoken of him...
@payne bobbees I saw one TV documentary that suggested it was under the R. Dr Turi King states in her lecture that he was near the R but not right under it. So some might have heard the hyperbolic story.
@@debbiemarquis3231 I find it beyond ironic that the fanatical Catholics think his hasty grave was somehow better than being reburied in a grand, almost multi faith way in the local Cathedral.
I saw some questioning what Mr. Ibsen made as a coffin. I thought it was fitting for him to do it and what he made as fitting, since it looked historically appropriate as a coffin.
I am glad that Richard III's remains were rescued from anonymity under the car park and buried as he was originally in consecrated ground. The victors write the histories. I suspect we were told a false history to make the Tudor's usurpation more acceptable.
Whether or not Richard III did the murderous thing he is accused of is not the issue. This descendant of his who happened to be a cabinetmaker and made a coffin for him is the story. Let God judge Richard III in the same way he will judge all of us.
I agree with Michael, that Richard III needs the dignity of a burial for a King. That said, I hope the King he killed (his nephew) is identified and afforded the same.
It is not a slam dunk Richard killed him. Don't you think if the Tudors lied about Richard's appearance that they could have lied about that? Moreover, Parliament removed the boys from the line of succession, meaning Richard's motive is missing.
In any event, it has been shown that Edward IV, Richard's elder brother and father of the princes in the Tower, was illegitimate and should never have been king. There is a fairly strong belief that Richard knew Edward came "from the wrong side of the sheets" but was unwilling to withdraw support from his brother during their conflict with the Lancastrians but on his death, moved very quickly to prevent the prince from taking the throne. Incidentally, Richard and Edward shared a mother but not a father which is why in the times of male primogeniture Edward should not have been king and therefore his children could not inherit the throne either.
His great great great great grandnephew makes a coffin for his great great great great granduncle, i mean yea, he should part of the royal member legacy and history of the British monarchy
At first glimpse in the stark light of day, it appeared he hadn't made a coffin fit for a king at all. It didn't look from many angles as if it was even fit for a pauper. His own explanation for this was that he "didn't want it to be about him" as the designer. No, Mr Ibsen, it was meant to be about Richard III himself. The result was perhaps something of a let-down as far as most people's expectations were concerned when it came to the initial unveiling of it. The name carved into the lid was the only really impressive part of the coffin itself. However, once a few extra items had been added to it inside the church it began to take on a more distinguished look.
I am a Direct Descendant of Richard the third, he is my Great Grandfather plus but I am also Direct Descendent of many Royals as my family were still Noblemen up until the 1700s and I am the Stuart line also which is 2000 years of Great Grandparents who were Kings and Queens but when I did my 2000 years worth of family tree, I realised that most of the Royals in my tree are just awful people, even Murders! They were not nice, good people! There is nothing to be proud of being related to the Royals! I would have been happier being related to the man who invented the toaster!
James Griffin that is, of course, correct, he is not a descendant of Richard 3rd, but a nephew, 17 times removed as it were, as descendants are the offspring of consecutive parents. And, as you probably know, I'm sure, DNA cannot identify the relationships of ancestors or descendants of a particular member of a family without documentation validating that relationship, which is why the people involved in this project were especially careful to make certain the family relationship from Michael Ibsen and Wendy Duldig was accurately documented back to a particular individual, Anne of York, sister of Richard 3rd, and in turn to their mother.

What a gentle and articulate man.
It had to have been surreal to him that he was making a coffin for his 500 year old deceased royal ancestor.
its amazing thing to see the alive descendant of medieval king of england, this is a great discovery

How rude
The descendant PERHAPS should be a Duke or kind of Royal links ya! 🤔🤷🏻♂️👑
He is from the Plantagenet dynasty
You would think!!
Prova pensare a quanta gente in tutta Europa potrebbe discendere da Carlo Magno per esempio!! Si parla di 1300 anni fa circa!
I AGREE 🙂
how did they know that he is a relative?
They’ve run through the records and done a DNA test. He’s a descendant of King Richard III’s sister.
They had DNA test & there is another female descendant, too
D.N.A. speaks volumes .....
You look like your uncle
Why is this guy not king?
rhon r That's the whole point. Once a King always a King. The bloodline is always there.
rhon r Because his bloodline was removed and replaced by a totally alien German bloodline. :(
CountryHouseGent You can't remove a bloodline. The Crown works like dna. The Crown is passed along until it finds a legitimate match.
The war of the roses
rhon the blood line died when he died king Henry the 8ths dad killed king Richard the blood line moved to that family
I share Richard 3 haplotype interesting

He is not a descendant of Richard III. A nephew is not a descendant.
For DNA purposes, he is.
Descendant means you descended from the same family, carry the same blood and what they called DNA.

He's direct descendant of Richard's father and therefore of King Edward III. That makes him a legitimate Plantagenet.
Does anybody know the full story on why he was chosen to make the coffin? Is that his qualification: R3's descendant?
His find was ment to be!
Hate to be persnickety, but Richard had no children, Michael has Richard in his tree, he is not a descendant.
Richard had a legitimate son who died young during Richard's reign
@@sharonfoster4310 Yes, he also had illegitimate children.

Richard III had no children, so Ibsen can't be a descendant.
He's a blood relation via king Richards sister ,an uncle many many times down the line.
