Back in the day at least 50 percent of hit songs were conscious songs. These are the metric from pre 2000 hiphop. AS hiphop got more and more lucrative. Labels needed the message to be more universal (aka multiple races content). Thus songs dedicated to uplifiing the black community were not pushed for. ---- A never ending cycle of hiphop devouring itself. sort of like the wolf that east its own young or the snkae that eats its own tail.
To hear more conscious songs. Check out songs by, ------- Brand Nubian, "Slow Down, "Wake up (Reprise in the Sunshine)", "Drop the Bomb", "Proper Education" ----- Public Enemy, "Bring the Noise", "Don't Believe the Hype", "Terminator X to the Edge of Panic", "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos", "Rebel Without a Pause", " Night of the Living Baseheads".-------- XClan, "Heed The Word Of The Brother", Grand Verbalizer, What Time Is It?, Funkin' Lesson, "Xodus", "Fire & Earth, A.D.A.M, -------- Arrested Development, "Tennessee", DAwn of the dreds, Natural, Mr Wendel
I met 3k as well. Served him food at Soul Vegetarian. Homie was smooth dressed like Captain Crunch in regular life. Cool as hell too. Stankonia had JUST dropped
This song was an album cut, not sure if it was realeased as a single. I think OUTKAST got the label to give a small vudget to pay for the video. which is why the video is simple, using loads of community shots. ----- That begin said, you said you would not listen to the song on the regular but you would want your child to make songs like this. THAT'S THE DIELEMA. A rapper today can't make a living from conscious songs as kids are programmed not to listen to them.
Bars after Bars after Bars after Bars (LA Leakers Ray Vaughn) is one 8min 📽️ video that's off the ⛓️ chain. Your guaranteed to ⏸️ pause every 5 seconds because of so many bars. Don't 💤😴 sleep on this 📽️ video. PEACE ✌️..
This whole album is fire. They won best new rap group at the source awards at the height of the west coas-east coast feud. Got booed by Death Row and Bad Boi and Andre3k got up there and saiid "Check it out, the South's got something to say" kicked off that whole genre. Check out player's ball and southernplayalisticcadillacmusic , this is just an appetizer, bon appetit
But who's to tell someone better than those that lived and experienced ruff and hard times.... Too many these days inspire to do negative instead of trying to sway the youth away from it, even if they have lived it.
Ya'll might consider it a "woke song" but that phrase didn't exist back in the day. They weren't overly sensitive like snowflakes today, just way ahead of their time and spoke the truth about the time they were in. Feels weird using the work "woke" to this song.

Can't go wrong with anything OutKast or Goodie Mob.
Before Cee Lo Green was singing some big songs in the 2000’s he was rapping back in the 90’s in the Hip Hop group Goodie Mob

Not true, they knew the rappers was rasing the youth so they had to switch the rappers to switch the people.
