I was in the store when this video was being recorded. I asked Barrett what they were playing upstairs and he told me the Tama Star metal snares. I said “awesome!” The wife said “you’re not getting one.”
Tama's crushing it lately with everything, but especially their snares.... These all sound spectacular, my favorites being the bronze and Aluminum. I would really have liked to hear both drums with die-cast hoops.
I just got the copper one 2 days ago and I’m absolutely in love! It sounds great in all tuning ranges, but I was really blown away by how well it sounds tuned low. I may have to get the aluminum next 😅
The copper one sounds just fantastic and it's an extremely versatile material that surely goes perfect from lows to highs.with those warm dark overtones . Compared the brass snare sound equally good with the more of mid and high emd expected. The aluminum sounds particular, has the controlled overtones pf the aluminum but not that expected "warmness" in the tone, wich in exchange seems to have a more focused crack (it's like the "yamaha maple custom absolute" of aluminum shells!). Wonder if that is more 'cause of the arc hoops , the 2x thicker shell or both. A head to head between the two kind of hoops on the same shell would also be very valuable info for customers! Excellent video!
Hi again guys!!! I loved the Third aluminum snare, the focusing of the attack within its hoops, with the curve being drawn into the head and not away is amazing!! AND, just for giggles, the "tunebot" was so close in tuning on all three, I actually had to run it through my Soundcraft console with the -20dB pad engaged, just to be able to get the volume up, and so much in order to really check the "tunebot" with reference in the cans, the near fields and the far fields, which by the way was shaking the crap outta the control room, I can only imagine how intense the sound of this snare drum (and subsequent kick too) would be in a 50K+ person venue and through a gigantic PA system!!! But, I have one small problem gents... the cost of these drums are ridiculous!!! I honestly believe that is our problem here in this business!! Stupid priced instruments that are supposedly "handcrafted," and I am not so sure they are!! We humans have found ways to automate everything, then, we take the credit for doing "by hand!!" There's about $25.00 in raw materials in that drum, ALL IN!! And, the price... A COOL $1,200.00 ... SERIOUSLY!!! KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK... "HELLO, COME BACK DOWN TO EARTH!!!" Apparently, you only want THE RICH AND FAMOUS to play on these drums, ehyy 🤔!?! WHAT... YOU DON'T THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM !!!??????!!! **I seriously hope you don't delete this comment, let's just have the masses chime in on this and see how they feel!!!** This is normally where I put my universal, "ANYWAY,... blah, blah, blah... @@drumcenternh what tunebot settings did you use for the aluminum if you don't mind me asking. I bought one and I feel like I can't get a good crack out of it. Almost too fat no matter what I do
The aluminum snare sounded the most "alive" to me. Loved it. The brass snare sounded a bit choked or something. The copper snare was decent. I'd buy the aluminum snare in a heartbeat.
I have the copper and brass. Love them. The aluminum may well be in my collection at some point. It does not sound like your typical aluminum drum though.
My hand-hammered Copper (pre-Star Reserve) is just awesome. Probably the best drum I own. I really wish I didn't see the brass one. I'm going to try and pretend I didn't.
HEY MAN!!! Do you have the sheet music up on the ceiling again...?? I see you looking up there, and you said you were not going to do that anymore!! Just kidding ya!! ANYWAY, KEEP ON KEEPING ON BROTHER DRUMMER!!!!!!!!!! PEACE!!!!!!!!!!🤘🏼
i have seen all kind of reviews of metal snares, but still i dont have a big preference, i tend to prefer aluiminum, i dont know why, but still my taste change it does change from snare models, of course heads, tunning and who is playing makes a diference too.
They all sounded great and picking one out as a favorite would be tough. If I was in the market to purchase one I'd want to play each one to not only hear them live but experience the feel and response of each drum. They certainly are beautiful looking drums. I regret that in past years I didn't pay a little more attention to Tama. I never owned any of their kits, or even snares.
Ive had the copper and then the brass 5.5.. i found the brass much more versatile, still souding good at any tunning... had a harder time to get is as good with the copper one..
Honestly, I really wasn’t to impressed with any of them. That’s kind of a surprise because I usually am a big fan of aluminum. I just wasn’t impressed. I’d more then likely go with a DW cast aluminum or a Gretsch USA solid aluminum…

Sorry you were subjected to my sloppy grooves… haha awesome drums though!
@@tinterlande zero sloppy grooves detected. I’ll wear her down sooner or later!

@@kevinremsen5627 How did it go? Something nice under the tree this year?
The aluminum at the higher tuning range is really interesting. That tuning had the most unexpected character of all three drums
That was actually my favorite.
It's the first time I dig an aluminium snare this much! Hats up! Thanks for this great demo!
I love the Head 2 Head comparison. Very valuable.
Glad to hear it!

Aluminum is a beast!
It sure is!
You really couldn't go wrong with any of these snares...Tama is in a class of its own.
Aluminum was my favorite but they all sounded great. Thanks!
My personal favorite is definitely brass
Aluminium all over!
The right sustain, not too short and not too long. Also the overtones. Just perfect

Not related but you have a fascinating personality
Absolutely love all 3. All these snares are EXTREMELY INSANE!! Such a difficult decision. Gna have to go with the aluminum, copper then brass.
No wrong answers!
The aluminium one has a fuller sound, I'd love to buy one ONCE I LEARN TO PLAY DRUMS PROPERLY 😄
Yeah my talents do not warrant such a purchase but I’d still love to have one.
Yup, lol.
@@VBHenry use it as inspiration to get better lol
Totally identified 😂
I like the sounds from the copper shell .
I didn't watch the video yet but I know I'm gonna like it.
I think you are correct!
@@drumcenternh i was right! I'll take any of these but I think there's something special about Tamas copper.

Aluminum is simply beautiful snare wow 🤩 amazing
It's definitely a head-turner!
Aluminium snare, the last in test, the mos killer sound, to my ears. Punchy, and on stage would sound very loud, as well.
love the copper shell
Super unique sound, it's awesome!
I'm suprised DCP didn't go for an 8x14 brass. I would still be more than happy with any of them. Great comparison video again.
Hmmmm an 8x14 would be lovely....

@Tony Interlande , do you have a video for how you get your kick sound? You make the kick drums sound amazing in every clip!
My favorite was the Aluminum, 2nd Brass, 3rd Copper.
They all sound great! Maybe, Maybe I like the brass one best

1) al
2) copper
3) brass
All are excellent though!
Really liked the aluminum drum, though I normally prefer brass.
Great choice Peter!
They all sound terrific but they sounded VERY similar
my favorite is the copper.

What are the Tune bot Hz settings?🤗
For me the copper takes it. But all sound gorgeous!

Excellent snare l like his sound specially on higher tunning
Hammered brass..👍🏿

ONE QUESTION AMIGO I TRY TO BUY MY ACOUSTIC DRUMS TAMA IMPERIALSTAR OR PDP CONCEPT MAPLE??
I bought both the aluminium and the brass (5.5) but not that happy with them unfortunately
Aluminum
The aluminum is so different it requires playing with a different shirt too.
🤣
Copper, Aluminum then the Brass...
Aluminium
They took the Mapex sonic saver hoop design.
Yes and no. That hoop style dates all the way back to the old slingerlands.
Aluminum...but Judas Priest couldn't they use a decent color for hoops ? Black? Chrome?
Surprise surprise, the copper shelled snare has more overtones than the brass one
My ears are not evolved enough to be able to tell the nuances between the brass and copper, but not the aluminum. Those sound awesome!
Differences are subtle but if you listen with good headphones or speakers you should be able to tell them apart.
Brass
Such beautiful drums on every level. Unfortunately having just become further out reach for the common drummer. Damn! Inflation still prevails. 😒
I'm really shocked at the low tuning on the hammered copper it sounds insane
Me too. Sounds like a Ludwig low tune with just the faintest hint of wood.
They were surprisingly similar. I'd get the cheapest one.
They sound similar. I think this because all of the shells are thin. Aluminum is the better one.
Aluminum is 3mm thick. I wouldn't consider that a thin shell.
@@rickeaton3085 yeah, didn’t realize that. I guess that’s why I thought it sounded the best.
Well, that makes the choice easier... NOT! One of each then, I guess? :)
That's fair!
Brass.
