For people wondering why the brain fart, its not just because MaoMao was cute but because the way she greeted him was the equivalent of a wife welcoming their husband home.

You know, when they took Maomao away from the Inner Palace, I was a bit disapopointed, because I started to like the people there. But since this now means we get even more Maomao-Jinshi scenes, I have to say it was a good choice.
I feel like they won't leave it this way though. The author will probably find a way to make both happen because he (I think) is just so freaking good at giving us what we want and more.

I liked the people, liked the interactions, and wanted to see her get closer with the three high-ranking concubines... but leaving her there would basically ensure that would happen. So, at first, I wasn't too thrilled with the change. But with the greater amount of freedom came a greater array of things that could happen (tackling a high ranking noble to save them from assassination as opposed to one day Jinshi never returns to the rear palace). So... the outer palace grew on me, and I will be less disappointed by it my next watch.
