if you keep bow-wow, and explore every part of the map that is newly accessible, Bow-wow will tell you where the Secret Seashells are and you can have 11 in no time.
You need the heart pieces and shells to get more hearts to give you more of a chance against some of the dungeons and bosses coming up. Take the shells to the seashell house and you'll get more heart container pieces.

@@nikkiwilliams4676 you have to explore the swamp with him first, you can really run through the whole map with him up until you go to see Richard to retrieve the five golden leafs because he refuses to give you the mission until you "return that beast". I went through the forrest' the swamp and explored everything I could then returned him when I was able to reach Richards house after learning the ability to pick up rocks/pots
