At least in the US, I think the illusion of safety plays a role. This is especially true if they are surrounded by a bunch of larger vehicles. I work in an area with tons of truckers, and there have been a few times where I’m one of the only sedans on the road. On the producer’s end, I’d compare it our housing market. Both SUVs and larger houses have higher profit margins compared to smaller models, and the US has enough space to make both of them more viable for more buyers here. So even if most people here don’t strictly need the space for more children or an extra office, they’ll go bigger because that’s what they can access. I also think that to a lesser extent, the comfort factor some Americans cite might have to do with the obesity rates here. My father weighs a little under 400 lbs, and he can barely fit into my sedan’s passenger seat.

@nunyabusiness3786Obviously, it’s still possible to lose weight on any diet - just eat fewer calories than you burn, right? The problem with this simplistic advice is that it ignores the elephant in the room: hunger. Most people don’t like to “just eat less,” as it may result in having to go hungry forever. Sooner or later, many will likely give up and eat without restriction, hence the prevalence of “yo-yo dieting.” While it should be possible to lose weight on any diet, some appear to make it easier and some to make it much harder. The main advantage of the low-carb diet is that it may cause you to want to eat less. Even without counting calories, overweight people tend to eat fewer calories on low carb. Thus, calories count, but you don’t need to count them.
Its funny that not long ago I saw my neighbour stuck on plane wet grass with his SUV and wasnt able to get off for about half an hour without help. To me shows the contradictory nature of these cars. The average person doesn't think about the environment at all. They just do what makes THEM happy. They don't even care about their kid's future. It all means the end is closer than anyone realises...
It’s because you watch too much tv , and before you start with research , lemme tell you that the reason for diabetes is not the sugar production but the study that became the triangle of consumption. It’s climat change not environnement destructeur. The earth has and will stay moving with or without pollution as it did before , read history ,how many cities has changed in the before pollution era ? MANY . Most people absolutely do not care about the environment at all. If you asked them in a poll, most of them would even say that they do care for the environment, but their actions show that they really don`t. After talking with many people I manage to get most of them to admit that they don`t really give a shit, at least not enough to give up on anything they like. Even people who believe in climate change and that it is bad, most of them don`t really care enough to change their life style and reduce their consumtion. No, instead they expect politicians and corporations to come up with a magical solution, that will allow them to keep on consuming as usual without having a guilty conscience. It has become quite popular to tell each other that the "ecological footprint" is a lie, so they don`t feel the need to reduce their consumption, which totally plays into the hands of corporations. People blame and shit on corporations, but don`t like it when you tell them to not buy their products, because most people like to buy stuff and they don`t like to be told that their actions have bad consequences. People really don`t want to take any personal responsibility. And worst of all, many liberal and eco channels also started to say things like recycling and your ecological footprint is bullshit, which just makes people not try to do better at all. Your ecological footprint is real though and recycling when well done works and is really needed. Corporations are not Captain planet villains who pollute the environment and emit CO2 just for fun, they do it to sell us products. Products we buy. And because we buy them, because of our insane demand, the result is more environmental destruction. There is no magical technology. Everybody needs to take personal responsibility. Problem is that most people really don`t care. And even those who claim to care are not willing to do their part. And that`s why it`s getting more and more hopeless. Those who try to change their lifestyle eventually give up, simply because others won`t and therefore they feel like they are doing it in vain. Instead of discouraging each other from reducing consumption, we need to keep on encouraging people to do their part. Because that`s the only way to turn it around. But sadly, it looks like most people really want to drive the car off the cliff, hoping that by some miracle a bridge will appear right when we reach the edge.

Certainly! Here's an improved version of your text: I might be late to the party, but I can tell you the SUV craze has only grown stronger! I recently purchased an Audi SQ8, and I absolutely adore it. Its robust personality shines through with the adaptive air suspension. In comfort mode, I can cruise along highways and city streets smoothly, enjoying the massage seats. Switching to dynamic mode transforms the suspension and steering, making it feel like I have two cars in one - a comfortable cruiser and an aggressive sports car.
In the UK you can feel smug in your hatchback or saloon as they have the same drivetrain as the SUV version of it but being lighter and shorter in width and height you obviously move quicker. The crossover version of my car is 1.2 seconds slower to 60mph and the top speed is 12mph lower and fuel economy is just over 5mpg lower too.
Why does everyone dance around the answer like this? People like being audacious and throwing caution into the wind. It's the same effect people seek when they take a selfie of them standing in front of an approaching train--look mom I'm putting myself in danger...aren't you shocked? They used to call it shock value when I was a preteen, and when you accused a young woman of using shock value, they would get angry, because it was something children did. But as far as adults and SUVs it's more like the shock value of hurting the environment and telling the world you don't care, in fact you like to anger whoever you can. If you tell Americans that SUVs are exacerbating climate change, they will pat themselves on the back.
The root of everything has money involved. People just love to but SUV’s and Crossovers. You can blame obesity, the road conditions, safety, lack of sales for smaller and sportier cars, the environment, but crossovers in specific checks every box for the average American commuter. Family friendly, affordable, decent on gas, smaller engines, and for the car enthusiasts there are sportier SUV/crossover options such as the Dodge Hornet R/T and Hyundai Kona N.
Okay, I wasn't even aware that they polluted more than a normal car with the same engine. I actually started looking for an SUV because of the looks (they're getting prettier) and space that they provide in terms of carrying stuff or comfort of having more people in the SUV. I'm more of a hatchback guy but recently SUV's have taken my interest. After learning this, I might try to change my "reptilian brain" from thinking SUV's. Also there's been new of some activists groups deflating people's SUV's tyres to make people aware of the situation, which also lead me to find this video.
Space is mostly actually more in an Average Minivan or Station Wagon than an SUV, I know some of my Friends who went to the USA and ordered a Large car from the Cab company. When they went from the Airport to their holiday home. They got an SUV and still had to carry luggage in their laps even though back at home, all their stuff fit into the trunk of their Estate.
Why didn`t you think they would pollute more. It`s pretty obvious. To move a heavier object, you need to spend more energy. And they don`t use the same engines. To move those heavy things you need bigger motors that guzzle more oil. Not to mention that to build those SUVs you need to waste far more recources.
@@maythesciencebewithyou Yeah, didn't cross my mind or just naive by believing that with the knowledge of todays world conditions and technology, they would at least make an effort to make better engines that would pollute less... Guess not.
Good choice bro. I know they look nice, but they are trucks, not cars and normal cars look good too. SUVs provide even less usable space than larger estate cars. Sport Utility Vehicles were originally designed for people who needed to go off road. Some modern SUVs aren't even good for that, the ones that are, might still make sense for some off roaders. If you go to cottage on weekends, there are some normal cars that have higher chassis.
Another advantage of an SUV is more sleeping space then a car, as long as the back seat(s) fold down. That is especially important with rising rent/ house prices.
I don’t have one, but honestly it’s hard today to not buy one. There’s so many of them there’s a lot of choice so it’s easier to find one that you like compared to sedan and hatchbacks
I still didn't get the answer when looking around: why car manufacturer nor the government research on lighter, smaller and slower automatic driving vehicle ? A lightweight Velombile with the automatic driving system travel ~30km/h doesn't need much "safety features" and the vehicle will weight less than 60kg. With the person in there, a total weight of less than 200kg doesn't do much damage on the road, and it is small and hardly cause congestion with unused dead space and weight. for example, all those "micro car" that show in this video link : ruclips.net/video/f5-mxEsNY-Y/видео.html are still too heavy, too fast and not safe during a crash.
@@FireOfJagz Velomobile still can travel between 150-250 km/ 94-156 per day. If you cycle all day. Sure, velomobiles are not for trips exceeding 40 km/ 25 miles.

FASTER? Hate to break it to you, but speed isn't solely dependant on horsepower and torque. Speed can be affected by weight, aerodynamics and handling characteristics. A 200HP hatchback will outperform an SUV with double the power output simply because of the power to weight ratio. This just goes to show that car companies and their marketing teams are doing an excellent job at bamboozling the masses into thinking that SUVs are superior. They are not superior. They are good at fulfilling certain needs but not all. If you really want performance, always look for a balanced power to weight ratio. SUVs look like they have power but they also weigh a lot more than sedans, hatchbacks and estates. Essentially, if you want something with above average ground clearance, decent boot space and a high seating position, by all means, buy an SUV. If you want performance, opt for anything but an SUV.
Hybrid and turbocharged 4CYL performance SUV’s/Crossovers are going to be the new trend for car enthusiasts. There’s barely any new affordable sports cars for enthusiasts on the market except For a 2022-2023 BRZ/GR86 and Civic Type R/Si. They are beginning to phase out V8 engines, Hellcats, Kia Stingers, Veloster N, Subaru STI and they are rolling performance crossovers like the Dodge Hornet R/T which is a hybrid turbocharged 4CYL and a Hyundai Kona N with turbocharged 4CYL. However I think the Kona N is badass and makes up the loss of our beloved sports sedans/coupes being phased out.
Exactly, having a big engine but sub-par aerodynamic is literally a truck. Even a truck is better because they have excellent torque and thick tires to do its jobs. Meanwhile, modern SUV cars are just like a confused person because they have monocoque bodies and FWD that are actually worse for off-road and don't offer much torque. Then, it also has slim tires that have nothing to do with bad tarmac. And why do they say these SUVs offer speed and torque if that car from its design literally can't do that😅
I drive roadsters and sports coupe's exclusively. Agile sporty cars offering lots of driving pleasure and fantastic performance. SUV's are laughable large wobbly boxes on wheels that block the roads and most SUV owners barely have the skills to maneuver them, most need 8 cameras to get in and out of a parking slot :)

Modern SUVs have worse offroading capabilities than the normal cars they are based on. They have a heavier frame with the same engine, so less torque and power ratios, and are also less stable. They are also FWD
SUV are literally a parody of the 21th century. These cars are stupidely big and they never go offroad. A car is made to transport people, not oversized egos.

It's kind of surreal that the most polluted/polluting countries like the US, India, and China are adopting trends that would amplify the issues even faster.
I love sedans the most, but I need to pull heavy trailers and I live up on a mountain. Big SUVs and some pickups are the only ones who are allowed to pull 3.500kg in Europe, you can't do that with a sedan or coupe or estate. There are reasons for buying an SUV, like in my case. But yes, most of SUV owners don't even pull something with it or don't even go offroad.

I have a CUV not SUV. CUVs are more aerodynamic and have lighter chassis. The reason why I bought a CUV over a minivan is because the handling is better and have less bodyroll thanks to the larger wheels. I live in a place with narroe roads so having a CUV makes more sense than a station wagon because theres morr vertical space.
Well CUV's are also high, that means bigger engine, gas guzzlers and it has poor handling, while a wagon has good handlin and has good fuel economy because it's based on a sedan. No hate, just saying.
@@matotoy6652 It depends on the model. Santa Fe handles well because the roof is low and it's wide. Yes, a station wagon would be more economical with superior handling but in a tight place with many motorbikes around, it wastes a lot of horizontal space.

The question asked is what makes the facts , the west is drying but Saudi Arabia for example is becoming greener every year , the earth movement has speed up or slowed down (i don’t remember) and that 1 second change does change the climat . It’s climat change not environnement destructeur. The earth has and will stay moving with or without pollution as it did before , read history ,how many cities has changed in the before pollution era ? MANY . They do think, in my country roads are bad and SUVs are the solution.
Exactly. They don't give a tiny rat's ass about others and the environment.

Or strap better engine internals and a turbocharger to go faster with a little sacrifice on fuel economy but still be efficient.
Only SUVs I'd buy are classic Jeeps, Broncos, K-5 Blazers, and Ram Chargers.
Jeep Willys MB are actually decently-sized and reliable. Rugged looking too.

3:15 Yeah, no. The natural disaster one is completely taken out of context. None of the news channels used it to promote SUVs, that's just how you think, doesn't substantiate the statement in any way
I do think there is a commensurate between SUVs and the rate Americans are getting in size. The question is, will there ever be an SUV bearing the model name of Lardo?
Here me out. Most people get SUVs cause they dont know crossovers exist.I got a crosstrek cause i just wanted a hatchback with clearance so i could go to drive-in theaters
It basically mirrors our society.
you could completely spec out an estate like an Audi Avant with all the options and compare it to a base SUV and it still would be cheaper and just as practical. people are just wasting money.
majority of the people in the comments cant even afford an suv lol
Because they are profitable.
i prefer vans, mpv's, estate cars, and land yachts (like the lincoln continental)
i also like trucks but for offroad use
2:10 Our brain 🧠
I have never liked SUVs
I like station wagons
Unfortunately, no one sells station wagons in the US anymore.
It feels that mostly older people buy SUVs because they'll die soon anyway...
Wait, people actually think these abominations look good..?
THANK YOU
SUV is still king.
King of low efficiency and low speed/poor handling
@@divinehatred6021 Could kill you in collided, still king.
Go beta man riding Sedan lol.
Would rather ride a sport car than sedan.
@@Daraponleu 1 they represent 15% of the deaths in kids (thanks to his visibility problems)
2 in a frontal car crash if you are driving a sedan is 40% more likely that you are gonna die if its against an SUV
3 Also u are more likely to die if your SUV turn over in a car crash
4 There are far more useful vehicles for utility on a city, you need space? a station wagon is far more efficient
5 Their bed size is small for an actual work, plus its high makes it a problem to carry things which makes people who really need an "utility" vehicle opt for a van instead or a light truck who is more efficient to carry heavy loads on a difficult terrain.
6 There are more than one study that shows SUV owners tend to be the worst drivers (like you are)
7 Only reason SUV are a thing is to make car manufactures make more money
So basically they're meant for killing small children and carry fragile egos in that small bed size that doesn't work for anything else
@@Daraponleu you like people dying? you shouldn't even be allowed behind wheel.
@@Virsho Only poor driving like Sedan, because they can't properly drive a king SUV.
A lot of SUV’s are actually hatchbacks that ride higher on the road, so they’re not SUV’s at all.
It’s a lie that makes money for the car makers, but that’s just my take on it. 😉
SUV are popular because people wanna drive a real car, not a tiny matchbox on wheels. They also look cool.
your type of people are make me lose hope in humanity
They look cool to you because of advertisements. Car makers only care about profit, and they don't have to meet the same fuel efficiency standards with SUVs than with Sedans. They can also fool you into paying more.
Here's my answer: want a practical small car? Buy a hatchback. Want a sporty flowy exciting car? Buy a sedan or coupe. Want more storage space? Buy a wagon. And only if you want to go off-roading, only then should you buy an suv. That's simple logic. But people want a higher sitting position, don't wanna feel dominated by other suv drivers. People need to gain some confidence...
I'm sorry but "bigger IS NOT better." Driving small vehicles works if you're on your lonesome. For the family, estate cars should suffice but they're dying out in favour of these SUV hatchback crossover thingies like the Qashqai from Nissan?
SUV is a moving building hollow block . When traffic happens
half of the suvs shouldnt even be legal for regular license
People are mad. Some really don't deserve money, they will buy stupid shite with it. This makes you think that inflation is actually a good thing.
i love the french dude :D
Because they look tough.
But nooo. Because murican car culture.
