- A live video look at the new Janome Continental M17! No script, no edit. Just over an hour of Amy's session playing with this fabulous machine. Not without a few user errors...just like we all do! Camera battery did give out before I did, so look for a part 2 in the next few days.
I’m Amy K Johnson, a Janome dealer and owner of Sew Simple of Lynchburg. That’s my brick and mortar quilt shop in Lynchburg VA, and home of AmyQuilts.com, my online shop and hub of all the tutorials, videos, and more that I share online.
I'm passionate about free motion quilting and was an early pioneer in the use of quilting rulers on a stationary sewing machine. I also do live quilting videos on my AmyQuilts Facebook page: / amyquilts and can also be found on FB at / sewsimpleoflynchburg
I love helping people master their Janome sewing machines and have a program at amyquilts.teac... that helps owners of certain Janome machines to use them with more confidence and greater creativity.
A course on getting the most out of your new Janome M17 is coming soon!
You are the ONLY person that actually runs the machine in the video!! It’s great to hear what it actually sounds like!!!
Thank you so much for this great video! I just bought my machine a couple of days ago and you are the first person I looked up for tutorials. As always you don't disappoint.
Glad I could help!
So excited . I just got my Janome M17 today !
So exciting!
I. Love. Watching. Machines. Embroider! ❤️❤️❤️ I learned from your video and I thank you so much!
Awesome! Thank you!
We need to see what buttons you pushed to back up the hoop. Also when you moved the hoop after you tacked down the white fabric. Thx.
Dreaming of that machine. I have an Brother Innovis dream machine that I love. BUT!
I love it!
I love my new m17
Que r eridiculo solo tu en el mundo tienes esta maquina ...porque a Chile jamas llegara ..que vergüenza Janome.
I want to get one so bad. I’m trying to get mines by end of July.
Hi, Amy! Quilt Club member and M7 owner, here. There are a lot of differences between the M7 and M17, looks like! I’m mainly a PC gal. Are you saying that everything will function with a PC, as opposed to the iPad?? I’m so glad to see how the M17 works without a camera. Great video, thanks!!
The apps are for ipad and they are in the process of getting them available in Android as well. A couple can be used on a phone, but a tablet is better for the apps.
The machine comes with software that can be used on a PC or mac, but in my opinion, the acusetter app is worth getting an iPad mini at least. Cheaper and more useful than what it would cost to add a camera.
@@AmyQuilts, thanks for answering! I was confused about using my PC to update my machine, but needing an iPad for the apps.
😊
I was told today that if, I can download the apps to my android tablet, then the machine will work with the android and it does. It connected to the wifi in about a-half second. I haven't gone back to it since then.
Janome secio 9500 touch screen got yellow spot covring 90% of screen. What will b the remedy . if replacement where toget thescreen. And how much itcost
I thought one of the features of embroidery on the M17 was that you can dock the leading tail to keep it out of the way.
Actually you can 'dock' it on any Janome embroidery machine. However it doesn't really stay there or it would interfere with the movement of the hoop. And often you need more friction on the tail if doing the basting feature.
If we are using 60 wt thread for embroidery do we have to adjust the bobbin case?
I wouldn't adjust the embroidery case. Instead insert the yellow dot bobbin case if you need the thread pulled to the back more. Red if it's pulling too much with the yellow. Fine tune with the top tension.
Would like to see when you use any Buttons, I just got my machine. Just learning
I'm working on a series of lessons on this machine as an online class. Stay tuned for more info.
just got my machine!!!!! did you put on the clear stickers on the machine to protect it from the hoop?
Wonderful and congratulations! I haven't yet as my machine is the shop's floor model.
@@AmyQuilts Clear stickers? I get my machine next week and would love to hear in a new video if you have any recommendations for new owners. Thanks
How much does this machine cost? Also, does the machine come with the laser or is it sold as an addition?
For embroidery, alignment lines are a thing of the past if using the Acusetter app, which gives perfect placement. (I'm not wowed by the laser either) For sewing, I think a laser to project a sewing line is the most expensive solution. I love 1/4 inch seam tape. A ton of uses for less than $5.
I got mine yesterday - I chose one that had been demoed at a show and that lowered the cost considerably. I also got a 4-yr protection plan (offered by the dealer, not Janome) and the Bonus Bundle which is a huge box of over $2,000 worth of stabilizers, thread, an amazing assortment of quilting templates, etc. and an array of Sashiko accessories! A BabyLock Sashiko machine alone is $2,500 - not a machine I would have bought but since it was included on the M17, I will definitely use it. My state tax was $1,152 (ouch) so my bottom line was $17,989. The MSRP at one dealer on Google is $24,999 so a show or floor model was a really good deal. I can’t wait to learn how to take a picture of my grandchild’s drawing and push a few buttons to have it embroidered so professionally! And when I learn free motion with the included stitch regulator and learn the digitalization, I’m going to be one happy camper!

What speed are you set at
I totally can't recall! But from looking closely on the screen of the video, I think it's at 600 stitches/minute. Speed slider is also at max. Any slow down would be in the digitizing of the design.
Per my owners manual, max sewing speed is 1,300spm. I just used that speed to bind a king-size quilt and it was amazing!
How to put 4 Emb designs into one hooping
start with one design, go to the edit window, chose the next design, always going to the edit window to add designs. I'm working on an online new owner's M17 class. Check into my teaching platform at amyquilts.teachable.com
The only thing thats bad about this machine is .....its the price of a car lol
Mmmm....have you priced cars lately? LOL
