Love the sound of those Allison turboprops. They also power the Lockheed L-188 Electra, which I used to see and hear going into Burbank Airport during the 1960s and the early 1970s when I was a boy.

Yes, the Lockheed L-188 is my favourite plane, the Convair 580 is a close second. (Have a look at my channel banner).

Spent lots of time on 580's, one of my favorite aircraft. Very dependable and very comfortable. Thanks for posting. Good to see one still around.

@@Ykaspotter yep they’re lovely looking aircraft. I believe air Chatham in New Zealand still fly some, although I think they’re in the process of modernising

@@malcolmwhite6588 unfortunately they retired the last of their Convair 580s just under two years ago. They were the last passenger operator worldwide.

@@Ykaspotter wow quite sad. I knew they would’ve been amongst the last operating them worldwide. I hadn’t seen them around for awhile but I haven’t done much flying for several years so it would be a number of years ago that I would’ve seen them at a couple of airports around the country here, are you in New Zealand too?

We had two CV-580'S where I worked in the 80's. Both were former General Motors executive planes. They were super comfortable to ride in. They both have experimental ratings now because we installed radomes on them.

Beautiful! I Watched the passenger Convair 340, 440, and 580's come and go in the 60's and 70's at Grand Rapids Michigan. Lake Central Airlines, and North Central Airlines. Of course we were looking for big jets. These prop jobs were still in demand. Thanks for posting

It does my heart good to know that a few of these aircraft are still flying. I got to have many trips between Bemidji and Minneapolis Minnesota in the 70's and 80's with North Central, Republic and Northwest on their CV-580s. A very favorite aircraft of mine. Thanks for posting

Thanks for the comment! Yes, it was a very smooth landing. I would have loved to fly the Convair, but unfortunately there aren't any passenger variants flying anymore.
