Idc what anyone says. Lose or win, to be 42 yrs old and still playing is amazing. Doesn't have anything to prove. Her career speaks for itself so if she wants to play, let her.
It's not amazing to take wildcards, prize money, and ranking points away from players who deserve (and need) them more. Especially given how poor her form has been over the past several seasons. Beating a young ITF player here is fine and all, but if she's not a slam contender and the chances of her getting back into the top 5/10/20 are quite low, why still do this? Ego?
@@Shilo1987 The wildcard system in tennis is definitely not perfect. There are pros and cons. Tennis is about making money. It's a sport but it's a business. Look at some of those ATP style FH where Venus shortens her takeback and just snaps through the ball. Have to admire these technical changes Venus always trying to improve technically. Look at her game in her early years vs. today, still keeping elements of attacking style, but phenomenal work over the years.
Wow, Venus becomes one of the oldest WTA players to win a MD match with this result. It's a very different Venus than one who lost to Van Uytvanck at US Open!
She said she went immediately to practice after her loss to AVU at the US open and hasnt missed a day of practice. Phenomenal. I am so very proud of her for not giving into the critics and naysayers. She has a goal and she’s going after it.
