Hi Rhoda!😊 Today was $ clothing day at a favorite thrift store every Saturday they sell clothes for one dollar, I am not able to go every week, but I try to go every other week 😊 I always look for things for my daughter ' s family and my husband and me I hardly ever find things for the guys but today I felt fortunate I found a really nice pr of Nike sweat shorts, and a pair of new Nike Sandals for teenage grandson, woowoo lol both brand new... I also was able to find a cpl of Aline skirts ,and several plain and printed Tshirts (5) for my grand daughter, A brand new pr of shoes for my husband,and a really nice pair of cargo , board shorts, and for me a couple prs of great looking drawstring cargo shorts , a bathing suit with crotch paper on but no tags 2pair of cute sweatpants , 3 cute tank tops and 3 new Sonoma tshirts from KOHL'S all were very nice clothing items 😊😊 everything together cost around $22, ran home afterwards and mowed the front yard, then went grocery shopping ,which I haven't been able to go for 4 weeks, and bought parishables , got 8 slices of each swiss , cheddar, pepper jack, provolone, and a 3 lb bag of shredded mozzarella, cheese, 2 bags of coleslaw mix, one nice head of iceberg lettuce, a bunch of celery tops on, and 3 lg cucumbers, in addition I was able to get 2 packs of Christmas napkins, 2 lunchbox food containers each holds 2 sandwiches, and and one package of tuna( to replace the tuna I used to make tuna casserole 2 days ago, and a package of 10 individually wrapped soda crackers, 2 gallons of vinegar one bag simply potato shreds for hàsh browns and one container simply mashed potatoes all wàs for $ 13. Very good good day total of da was bout $$35😊❤❤❤❤ it pays to shop carefully and take advantage of deals had to substitute potatoes for another deal but I am happy with the price I paid 😁
I have a small kitchen garden and some pots. My harvest was not good. I am thinking about what to do next year. I also had flowers fall off. Was it the heat? I watered a lot for nothing much and water is expensive too.
Trying to figure out how to grow food in grid down, no water supply. Lakes in San Diego County are run by municipal water authorities or County/State parks. Pretty sure access to water will be restricted or denied. And it takes gas to drive to the lakes, right?
One fig tree will give you so much food its unbelievable. I canned 36 pints of figs, 6 pints fig chutney and so much fig jam I lost count. In addition we ate fresh figs every day and i froze 20 lbs of figs to make more chutney or jam after we eat down some of what we have.
I'm curious if you keep a running total of your groceries for the month. I've done it for decades at this point and it shows my spending habits during the seasons.
OK, I want to chime in here if I may, we go through this every year where there is a possible grid down where there is a possible shortage where there is a possible whatever and that is true on a daily basis not a want to year basis like some people are making it sound and I’m not talking about you. I’m talking about others. The bottom line is this people should have even a small prep pantry for things like possible shortages of things that you might want, job loss, if you’re sick and you don’t want to go out or somebody in your house is sick and you need to stay home and you don’t want to have grocery delivery brought to you and or if there’s bad weather! as a prepper and I’ve been a prepper for many many years, I’m starting to think the so-called OMG ideas are right around this time on a yearly basis! I do tell people to stock up a little bit during the winter time because a lot of us have crappy weather and either don’t want to get out in it or there’s elderly people who cannot get out in it and it’s more of a safety net so you can stay home as much as possible and not tread out in the weather. At see are still having an issue transporting things back to the United States. We all know this. The crap that’s hit the United States with millions and millions and millions of illegal immigrants have caused a huge problem, not only with our food issues, but with our healthcare now with housing and all kinds of things and I could ramble all day along about that but I’ve got a little bit negative on that side because I of dollars for my husband to come here to the United States the legal way! The bottom line is this a lot of preppers will click bait and try to fear base a lot of people into thinking all these problems are going to happen and there may be an issue where something may be short like the toilet paper and the paper towels that one year but couple months later we had so much toilet paper and paper towels, and our store they were in the clearance section and they weren’t on clearance. They just had way too much! People just need to stock up a little bit smart and not be fear base into thinking the shits gonna hit the fan every time they turn because this is a prepping thing that I’m seeing a trend on that every time around the fall they start thinking all the shits gonna go down And every year it doesn’t and I’m not saying it can’t I’m just saying chances there are slimmer than what people think 6:266:296:32
Interesting we make tamales every yesr but we never put carrots or potatoes in them. I have made chicken or turkey tamales and also bean and cheese tamales. I have also made desert tamales with fruit and cream cheese. We soak red chilis (mild) in hot water or broth and blend it this is what we make the masa with we also always use lard not shortening. With the masa we soak the masa flour in the warm liquid until it is absorbed usually an hour or so then we add the warmed lard if you have a stand mixer its good to mix it up in there to get it blended well.
In my opinion living where the air is clean enough anc where there is good water. The pioneers made shelters from mud or native plants but no water no life.

Youre still living in your sons condo right? Water won't help if it's contaminated chemically or biological. No water no garden. Save the water from your canned veggies and use in soups,juice from canned fruit drink and use in cakes,pancakes,muffins. You might have to eat the mice and rat's you've been trying to get rid of. Do you realize how long it takes to establish grape vines/ fruit trees! Years

If your gardens growing like it has been,Ralphs,Smart and final and dollar trees shelves are bare were all going to eat things we never thought we would.i hope none of us will get so desperate, I'm just saying don't be so sure you'll have alot of options.

You can only go 3 days without water, 30 without food. Focus on getting some storage containers for water. You seem pretty well stocked on food.
