Good video, I tore apart my 2014 ram 1500 hemi back in 2022 for kinda the same reason yours is, how ever my cam was shot as well I would highly recommend whenever a lifter goes bad to replace your cam it’s in direct contact with your cam. My cylinder 7 lobe was gone asf
in a 8 speed automatic you can shut off the MDS by moving the shifter to manual shift. This disables the MDS. . I like the MDS on long trips on the highway, saves a lot of gas.
Just a warning for the hemi owners, if you have a worn lifter like in this video and you have metal in the oil like he does in this video , don’t bother doing the delete and new lifters,it’s too late ,you will be replacing your engine within 3-6 months ,you will spin a rod bearing and need a new engine. Just put an engine in it and save yourself the headache and wasted 2000.00 repairing the boat anchor Stripping it to the block and replacing the worn cam and worn lifters.
John DiMartino how much shavings do you think is worth enough to say you have a bad engine ? On my 07 Dodge Charger 5.7L sometimes knocks hard then goes away I'm think it's the lifters but I don't think I have that msds on my charger . Do you think I still have a chance ?
When you did this MDS delete with those plugs did it trigger the check engine light on? when the ecu commanded MDS on and there was no MDS to funtion and the wire harness plugs were not plugged into anthing
Dude seriously !!! A small screw driver to get the rest of the solenoid out. Perhaps that mechanic with 25 years, below, is right. Only one of mine came out like as shown. The other 3, I used a dry wall screw down the center, if it spins use the little screw driver in the notch to hold it from turning. Get about 3 good turns on it. Then use a Claw Hammer to pop it out. And it is not mentioned about pulling out the very bottom piece that has a magnet on the bottom. Notice all the fine metal shavings collected there. As for the Mechanic below. Dude what does the guys at the dealer use ? Cause I know those guys are not perfect either.
What about the wiring plugs from the mds system? Do you just leave them disconnected. I am used to owning old muscle car V8's. This mds system seems like a sure way to starve the engine for oil and trash it.
I’m deleting mine right now. Can I just replace the 8 mds lifters. I bought an engine tech delete kit and it was 4 plugs and 2 lifter racks which had 8 lifters. The racks are all mds and are loose when fit don’t know what to do. Guessing to have to buy more? It’s the stock cam everything was in great shape on inside it’s a 07 ram
MDS is just another thing to break. Get rid of them and it will even give better oil volume to you lifters. When I have to do mine I might try and get a bigger oil pump in there too.
It is really stupid that people have to do this. Dodge and Chevrolet need to get rid of this cylinder deactivation on automatic transmissiom crap. The majority use automatic transmissions and they get stiffed. I would have bought a scat pack but I bought a GT instead because the engine doesn't have MDS
And Ford is doing it with their 1.5 Ecoboost Inline 3 for the 2020 Escape and possibly the 2021 Bronco Sport (Baby Bronco) as well. Aftermarket companies need to offer a cylinder deactivation delete option for the 1.5 Inline 3 Ecoboost.
Just get a Superchips as there is a section where it allows you to disable the MDS. Do that and then add the 91 octane tune and your Hemi will run better than it did when it was brand new.
Nope, you need to update your 5.7 to 6.1 because Dodge knew that they fucked up on the 5.7 HEMI lifter design. Just pull everything out and cap them. Also use a tuner to turn that MDS shit off 👍 Note: replace all lifters with non MDS lifters 👌
I did the MSD delete and my engine light is on I need to know how to get it all the guy fuck my truck up can I buy a programmer and do it myself I think the kit was supposed to come with a tuner
possumpopper89 so how did you disable the mds in computer after you changed cam and lifters and glad to know that it may not be the mds system taking these lifters and cam out
Larry Nance I still have the factory MDS cam and Lifters. The flashpac tuner just turns off the MDS in the computer. It runs better and gets better mpg on the highway with the MDS turned off and sport tune. I gained almost 2 MPG. But my lifters started ticking a couple of months ago. I used sea foam in the oil and it reduced the ticking. I am about to change oil again to see if the tick is gone or not. I am researching a cam to eliminate the MDS lifters because they have gone bad on so many other hemi engines.
Thank you very much Bro for the Video & I'm doing the same thing to my 2013 5.7L Hemi engine build I'm deleting the MDS as well if you have any more tips or anything I need to know about please let me know and awesome video
You need to replace the cam and lifters to non-mds if you're going to do this. Also, you need something like a Diablo Tek tuner module to program the computer to shutoff the MDS system so you don't get the check engine light on. It's all a pain man😒. Edit: DON'T FORGET to disconnect and remove the 4 MDS silenoids, also plug em otherwise you are going to have problems.
So I'm getting a code on my 05 jeep cherokee 5.7 hemi only 128k and I can feel a jerking moment sometimes at low speeds or high esp at low speeds and after sum time check engine light pops up giving code for P3400 , I changed the oil to Mobile 1 so it's a little better but still jerks at times almost like I hit a pot hole, almost forgot when keeping constant pressure on pedal it's like it goes fast then slow feeling back and forth at times, is it the electrical solenoids or the ones under heads? And which ones do I replace
I noticed my mds is in "non-function" mode when I, manually, downshift in my 19 RAM classic express. Can anyone confirm if this is the case with their motor? Great video BTW. Thank you, guy in Northern Colorado.
I used to have 07 rt charher. Only time mds kicked in was while i was on highway really.never really cared for it but i noticed if you got the slapshift put in 5th gear while cruising it wont activate mds. I have srt now so font have to worry about it
Yep that's how you bypass the mds, and or use tow button on, also deletes the MDS, I always put my truck in drive , switch down to 6 gear while driving in town keep it that way everyaingle time I drive my truck I always manually switch to6/7/8 depending on condition , if it's a long freeway trip I will leave it in mds, their is no gas difference, it doesn't hurt your transmission, this was the option u got while they were trying to follow government rules , they left the manual option for guys like us that want power ,when we want it....not that bogging bullshit the mds ,causes
I'm with Zak and delete that cylinder shut down junk. Hopefully a bigger cam goes in for a little rumble. Comps 268 sounds good and works well with stock converters.
Do i need to change the lifters if i use the kit ....and what about the pcm is it going to throw a code if there not pluged in or do u plug the harnest to the plugs u just put in
Yep, remove the 4 solenoids and cap em off and you will need a new cam and set of non MDS lifters installed after you use a tuner to turn off the mds. Otherwise it will try to turn the MDS on and the computer will pop out engine codes. I just went with the the 6.1 cam and lifters in my charger that didn't have the MDS system then used all new head bolts and gasket. It works but it's a pain with any 5.7L HEMI. Note: if you go with 6.4 cam then you will need a tune otherwise the 6.1 is just a direct bolt on, no tune required besides turning off the MDS system before you do any work on your car.
Geovani Jakowatz I don’t think it will. MDS controls not only the valves but I’m pretty sure the injectors as well. I wouldn’t do it, I’ve never tried it, but I’m sure I’d be pissed with the end result.
If you delete the MDS system as described above, which would include installing new lifters, would the cam have to be replaced as well? I always thought that was how it was with the hydraulic lifters because of the wear pattern between the cam and the lifters. Cam and lifters were usually sold as sets. Zac didn't mention it so I am thinking maybe when replacing the roller lifters, you don't have to swap out the cam also. I hope that made sense.
If it’s a roller set then you can swap just the the lifters out and put new livers and you would not have to swap the cam. In this case one the lifters and the camshaft were completely destroyed so I had to replace them both
Nope, remove the 4 solenoids and cap em off and you will need a new cam if any of the lifters are damaged and a set of non MDS lifters installed AFTER you use a tuner to turn off the mds permanently.
Okay so your saying I need to buy a Diablo sport runner or something and have it shut off in order for it to run cause I had replace cam too cause when lifters went bad had buy cam and not mds lifter got timming set rockers and all back on it should be good so I do need a programmer for it to run ?
Has anyone heard of this happening with the ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi? I bought the truck at 64k miles and have almost 84k now. I turn the mds off manually every time. I cannot find anyone who makes the mds delete stuff for a 2500 6.4? Am I missing it or is it just not out their yet?
I think I saw there was some 6.4s on the RAM forum that had lifter and cam failure, but a lot of times it's the non MDS lifters that lockup, so I wouldn't count on MDS being the cause. maybe bad designed lifters stick, forcing the cam to open valve more than it should, putting more pressure on rollers and cam?
Mine is doing the same bad shaking and no power it’s sayin I have a bad solenoid a guy told me to unplug harness to by pass it will it work or should I just change my solenoids
Zaks Muscle Motors ok I was think I was this thinking this was a low mileage motor but even at 126k that's way to early to fail unless the oil changes were not regular... do you now the history of the motor?
@@Salvadorguia86 I turned mine off with a tuner and still have problems but I noticed that the PCM shuts the injectors off and then the coil packs to the MDS cylinders like you were driving down the road in 4-cylinder mode
Doesn't make sense, a lot of hemi's like yours will go 150,000 or more miles with no problems, while others will have lifter and cam trouble with 40 or 50 thousand miles on them.
So I have a 2010 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi had a cylinder 8 roller lock up on one of the lifters decided to go with the MDS delete ordered a programmer Flashpaq tuner programmed it and deleted 4-cylinder mode drove it down the road and 4-cylinder mode is deactivated so pulled the right side head off and decided to change the lifters out went with non MDS lifters put it back together and discovered when driving it down the road no problems but when in park or at a stoplight it would go into 4-cylinder mode at the day gumlite or in part but only on that side but I change the lifters it will literally turn the injectors off and then turn those coil packs off on that side so somehow the computer knows that I have altered it and is interfering with it despite having a tuner the only reason why I didn't do the other side because I got to order a new camshaft in and I had to use my truck in the meantime and didn't want it keep chewing through the cam putting metal all throughout the motor so now I got to find somebody that knows what they're doing so that way I can do the delete properly or if I'm just going to have to go with the MDS lifters and let the toner just have it off
Using the solenoid delete plugs and the non mds lifters, did you have to have a tuner to turn off the mds? Or did you have any issues. I have the mds lifters, and the delete plugs, but I do not want to tear it down and install them before knowing if I need a tuner or not. Thanks in advance.
helpful video....have a question Zak on my 5.7 motor I was changing the intake side pushin rods on passanger side only, so i took off the rocker shaft and by accident the engine was crank one time....Do you know is that hurts the timing or can i put it back in place the rocker shaft?
Interesting. Did u notice any difference in acceleration? My hemi feels sluggish when accelerating from around 70 to 85 mph and I was wondering if that’s the mds. Like when I cruise @75 and wanna accelerate to say 110, then the acceleration feels very sluggish at first and picks up after 90mph.
Zack I did not misunderstand the reason for the video I just think there's no reason to remove the multiple displacement system but if your car do what you want with it good luck with your channel
2 errors here, 1 Huge, and 1 annoying: Annoying error - this is a Charger Pursuit. It is *not* an R/T, which is a separate model. Don't believe me? It's in the VIN. Don't care? Try selling or trading in a Pursuit as an R/T. Huge error - you've got a frozen hydraulic roller lifter. Did you bother checking the corresponding cam lobe? These things had these issues primarily because of parts quality, or lack thereof. Not because of the MDS. Chrysler was using high valvespring pressure on lifters and cams made of relatively soft materials. Melling finally came out with hardened cams and redesigned lifters in mid-2016. Along with a slightly softer valvespring in the squads, these items have permanently solved the cam/lifter issues.
P Kranz I am well aware of why the cam and lifter are trashed, also not once did I say anything about the MDS system being the reason, I was just deleting it while I was in it so not sure where your huge issue is lol
@@ZaksMuscleMotors so did you do a OBD2 tune to also turn off the MDS after you left the wires unplugged and then plugged the MDS solenoids? I want to do this and replace all the MDS lifters and delete the silenoids before this happens to my cam in my 2006 5.7L charger.
Hi, I'm sorry but I'm an old-school mechanic too. What you did was destroy a perfectly good system that's a verbal of a valve timing and Jen the multiple displacement system that works perfectly fine I've had two dodge ram hemi's with the MDS system that of worked flawlessly what you did was break an engine part and blame it on the MDS system which was not The problem you're simply bidding on a stock engine that was not built for this type of abuse are you using synthetic oil's? Try building your engine before bidding on it I've been a mechanic for 25 years things break it doesn't mean you need to delete your MDS system The systems were put in here by engineers not backyard mechanics. Mopar guy only. Thank you 😊
General Repair the MDS system was not the reason for the failure, nor do I think I implicated it at all for being the cause. I was deleting the system as I did not want it, after the issue occurred..... so yea my issue isn’t needing to “ bid “ my engine, I think you misunderstood the reason of the video...
Hi, I'm sorry but it is definitely not a perfect system... my cylinders are fighting the mds without shutting off the fuel through those valves... so I am burning gas and it flogged both cats and I'm also getting lifter tick again... Mds is not made to go on performance motors
Lol, MDS is Shit👎 Mine will completely deleted with a comp cam,... Tuned with HP Tuners. VVT is separate system, and will have phase limiter installed and still functional. There have been a large number of failures reported due to the mds lifter itself and now my 5.7 I am certain mine failed this way. 30+ year veteran engine builder and old school mechanic talking. MDS SUCKS 🤪👎
After working on one of these engines today I have confirmed these motors are absolute trash, if you have one of these Mexican turds get rid of it ,before it breaks, or the cheap metal biodegrades, what a piece of overrated crap

Derek White can you call me 7655247362
I can call in the morning around 9 or 10. If that’s ok
Derek White I might still be up lol I’ll try to be
So i have to get non MDS lifters in order to replace the MDS with the plugs?
M Escobar No. you can do mds delete plugs with the stick lifters but you’ll need a tuner
Great video! Music has got to go! Still got the 👍!
did that jegs website just list just list a part named "Non-MDS HEMI" plug under the section for MDS Delete parts? lol
What was your total cost? I’m looking to do an MDS delete in my ‘12 on a super tight budget .
Leroy Jenkins it was in the $2,000 range but I didn’t get it completely worked out and it would have cost me more
Any advice for getting the MDS solenoid out? I have everything apart but have 2 busted off in the lifter valley
use something screwdriver like and slightly pry it up and twist it and it will come up
Has anyone heard of this happening with the ram 2500 with the 6.4 hemi? I bought the truck at 64k miles and have almost 84k now. I turn the mds off manually every time. I cannot find anyone who makes the mds delete stuff for a 2500 6.4? Am I missing it or is it just not out their yet?
I think I saw there was some 6.4s on the RAM forum that had lifter and cam failure, but a lot of times it's the non MDS lifters that lockup, so I wouldn't count on MDS being the cause. maybe bad designed lifters stick, forcing the cam to open valve more than it should, putting more pressure on rollers and cam?
Didn't need to mess with the cam at all even though that lifter shaved down like that??
A Moss yes I replaced the camshaft as well
This is the same issue im having from my 2011 R/T! was it shaking and idle really bad and had no power when driving?
steven mccrorey yup that’s how mine started then it started bangin lol
Mine is doing the same bad shaking and no power it’s sayin I have a bad solenoid a guy told me to unplug harness to by pass it will it work or should I just change my solenoids
Is the jbk 7521 front & rear
How many miles were on the engine before this happen
maldo72 126K
Zaks Muscle Motors ok I was think I was this thinking this was a low mileage motor but even at 126k that's way to early to fail unless the oil changes were not regular... do you now the history of the motor?
maldo72 it was an Ohio State Police unit. Had the shit beat out of it I’m sure.
Zaks Muscle Motors ok cool
Zaks Muscle Motors Thank you being honest instead of bashing lol
Can you not just delete the mds with a tuner?
You can shut them off but I went with the 6.1 lifters that don’t use the MDS system at all
Good videos bro, subbed.
I did the delete and have had nothing but problems. Dunno why
Gabe Niccum i wanna do mine too.
did you did it your self?.
was it a pain in the ass?
Gabe Niccum i just did an mdsdelete on a 09 ram, it does not run right at idle and gets random missfires.
Ray Karner after you do the delete your suppose to get a tuner n turn it off
@@Salvadorguia86 I turned mine off with a tuner and still have problems but I noticed that the PCM shuts the injectors off and then the coil packs to the MDS cylinders like you were driving down the road in 4-cylinder mode
But at idle and it just shows multiple cylinder misfires
If I have metal shavings in my engine I would have to pull the engine and have it vat cleaned, Just me.
What year is this truck, and what was the mileage?
It was a 2013 Charger 5.7 Hemi 125K miles
I have an 05 300c with 151k miles. Runs good and no ticking so far, but should I use a tuner to disable mds to prolong the engine? Thanks
Doesn't make sense, a lot of hemi's like yours will go 150,000 or more miles with no problems, while others will have lifter and cam trouble with 40 or 50 thousand miles on them.
My 300c 60k and its same problem.......
So I have a 2010 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi had a cylinder 8 roller lock up on one of the lifters decided to go with the MDS delete ordered a programmer Flashpaq tuner programmed it and deleted 4-cylinder mode drove it down the road and 4-cylinder mode is deactivated so pulled the right side head off and decided to change the lifters out went with non MDS lifters put it back together and discovered when driving it down the road no problems but when in park or at a stoplight it would go into 4-cylinder mode at the day gumlite or in part but only on that side but I change the lifters it will literally turn the injectors off and then turn those coil packs off on that side so somehow the computer knows that I have altered it and is interfering with it despite having a tuner the only reason why I didn't do the other side because I got to order a new camshaft in and I had to use my truck in the meantime and didn't want it keep chewing through the cam putting metal all throughout the motor so now I got to find somebody that knows what they're doing so that way I can do the delete properly or if I'm just going to have to go with the MDS lifters and let the toner just have it off
What did you do to fix the problem? I have been thinking of doing a MDS delete on my 2005 300c.
These hemis only like mopar parts. It’s expensive but it will run right.
So don’t buy mds delete cam and lifters ?
@@terrylee773 you can bro. Don’t listen to this dude
Ben Rangel no that shouldn’t affect the timing at all. The cams and crank are still in time.
Would the lifters fit a 5.7 dodge Durango?
5.7 is 5.7.... 🤔
Sounds what mine is doing
Interesting. Did u notice any difference in acceleration? My hemi feels sluggish when accelerating from around 70 to 85 mph and I was wondering if that’s the mds. Like when I cruise @75 and wanna accelerate to say 110, then the acceleration feels very sluggish at first and picks up after 90mph.
It never ran right again
@@ZaksMuscleMotors are you saying after you replaced all your cam lifters and most delete stuff the vehicle never ran right again.
@@reckemroysrc3764 yup
@@ZaksMuscleMotors so what ur sayn is to dont delete the mds if u dont need to?
@@TownnBoyysz what he saying is that, don’t go cheap on internal parts
Zack I did not misunderstand the reason for the video I just think there's no reason to remove the multiple displacement system but if your car do what you want with it good luck with your channel
Piss the music off.
Good video, what’s with the Disco Porno Music?
Distracting and hard to take what your saying seriously with porno music in the background lol
Lol I was trying something different. Needless to say I won’t be doing it again 😂
yep. lose the music. great info
How bad was the tach jumping/surging?
Buen tip
Anyone with a HEMI. get a MDS delete!
Get rid of the background music.
2 errors here, 1 Huge, and 1 annoying:
Annoying error - this is a Charger Pursuit.
The Charger Pursuit either is an SE or SXT model even though you can get the HEMI.
You need a cam dude....
Canucker yea? I did put one in it.....
Hi,
I'm sorry but I'm an old-school mechanic too.
There have been a large number of failures reported due to the mds lifter itself and now my 5.7
I am certain mine failed this way.

MDS SUCKS 🤪👎
Wtf is with this music

After working on one of these engines today I have confirmed these motors are absolute trash, if you have one of these Mexican turds get rid of it ,before it breaks, or the cheap metal biodegrades, what a piece of overrated crap
