    Got an absolute GEM from this, thank you!
    Keep this order in mind during study:
    1. What does it say?
    2. What does it mean?
    3. What did the original audience understand it to mean?
    4. What does this mean for us today?
    Thank you Sensei

    Thank you for your great review! I was able to secure a copy of this bible from eBay about a month or so ago! I paid around $77. It was in great condition. Some verses were underlined in pencil so I was able to erase them completely! I was shocked at some of the prices that other sellers wanted for this bible! I was blessed to get it!

    After several videos and research I decided to get this study Bible, only to discover I already had a nice, leather bound copy in my collection that my brother read when he was in jail for marijuana possession. I think it’s going to be excellent for preparing for a trip to Egypt.

I almost settled for the NIV Cultural Backgrounds one...but was able to find this one in (leatherbound) at the last minute for a song. I couldn't find the CSB Baker Illustrated at all. *happy dance* :D ...next one's on the list are the NLT Life Application Study Bible and the Full Notes NET edition. Eventually I hope to have a good sized collection. Thank you so much for these reviews you do. I found them quite valuable.

    Hello! I just watched your video on the Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible and you gave it high marks for accomplishing the project's main objectives. You mentioned that there was some crossover with this edition in particular, the Archeological Study Bible.
    Question: If I were to get one over the other, which one would you recommend?
    I am a lay person. Love to dig deep into God's Word, and am aware that there is so much more to it than the eye can see. So, I am interested in a resource that can help me put things in their more correct perspective. I'd like to understand what the original audience got when they heard God's Word/read God's Word. I'd like to have access to resources that help with the reading and understanding of the Bible: archeology, history, linguistics, cultural, traditions, etc.
    If there are some other resources that I can check out as well, I'd also appreciate it! :)
    Thank you!!!!

    • @DiscipleDojo
      @DiscipleDojo  2 года назад +4

      I had a local bookbinder do it for me. She doesn't have a website or any social media, and the ribbon she used wasn't good quality, so I had to replace it myself (with some youtube video help!). You might want to ask someone like Tim Wildsmith about something like this as he's more into the binding and bespoke/premium Bible stuff than I am.

    Greetings! You may be the man who knows, or who knows the man who knows! As we all are aware, archaeology is a moving field (so to speak!); and it’s difficult to keep up with developments. Published books tend to go out of date; and the latest round of the now-Zondervan Thompson’s Chain Reference Bible (NIV not long published) omits the archaeological section. Is there an ongoing or periodic archaeology news service of some kind? This sort of thing can be done online, of course; but I would like a loose leaf printed book, the outdated pages simply replaced by new ones and additional ones easily added.

    Question:
    When I have been researching this NIV Archaeological study bible I've been reading some very good reviews as this one but then I usually go to the 1☆ and see what people complain enough about it to give it a 1☆. Someone actually reviewed it to be a demonic book that actually has a prayer to satan (Moloch?) in psalm 37 I believe. I believe it was an Amazon review and the guy posted 2x the rant with 1 other man also saying basically the same thing but they were the only 2 so I don't hold their review with much faith. Could you maybe explain what they were referring too because they also said that this bible doesn't hold that God's word as the inerrant word of God but these 2 are the only ones out of all my research. Sorry for the long post, if I had your number I would of just called you lol. God bless brother

    • @DiscipleDojo
      @DiscipleDojo  2 года назад +3

      That's a dishonest critique by those "reviewers." This Bible gives quotes from other ancient Near East writings from other cultures ***in order to show how Scripture is different*** in many ways, even while using some the same concepts that all peoples in the ancient world were familiar with. Just like Paul and John citing pagan writings in order to bridge the rhetorical divide with their pagan audiences. The reviewer who gave the 1-star review is bearing falsw witness and can safely be dismissed.
      Also, I never answer my phone so this is the best way for me to have fielded this question. ;-)

      Not sure. This is a compact version. The also make a larger version. I don't know font sizes, so I just try to show pics of the pages when I can so people can get an idea. Some of the other Bible reviewers on youtube really do deep dives into font/typography/page weight/margin measurements/etc. I focus on the content since they all do the other better than me.

    Around the nine minute mark you say that this Bible is broadly evangelical without being fundamentalist. Could you expand what you mean by that?
    I’m looking to buy a study Bible for Christmas, and find myself frustrated as I find myself more conservative than many bibles on the “left” like the Harper Collins but as a mainline Lutheran I feel very far away from evangelicalism and the reformed tradition like the biblical theology study Bible video I just watched.
    Thank you for your excellent videos.

    • @DiscipleDojo
      @DiscipleDojo  Год назад +2

      What I mean is the scholars come from the broad evangelical spectrum, but you won't find things like young earth creationism, dogmatic stances on the Exodus details, or a lack of engagement with the ancient Near East background literature that characterizes more fundamentalist study Bibles. You will find critiques of things like Documentary redaction theories, late-dating of the Gospels, etc. But they interact with the literature more than most other study Bibles I'm aware of.

    I bought my hardback from eBay. I like it but… my main complaints are with the use of cross reference letters on the side and then another set of cross reference letters with a slightly different font at the near bottom of the page, just above the footnotes. Very confusing design choice!
    And I have to use my magnifying glass to read them comfortably. My suggestion is to not buy this Bible if you have bad eyesight. Even with good eyesight, you might find this Bible annoying. I do. Most of my life I’ve enjoyed the Amplified Version and the News American Standard. Then I discovered study Bibles! Now as a woman in my 70s, I favor my NLT Illustrated Study Bible. I also read the Archaeological Study Bible but favor the NLT.
