    Kind of funny, about the same year as you put up this video, I decided to build that kit. I ordered it while we were wintering in Arizona in a 35 foot Class A Motor Home, and that's where I got it. I put it together at the booth of the RV using a 5 volt USB Soldering Iron, I used the same method of laying out the resistors, and had good luck with the build, in fact I still use the little guy today.

    I started watching your video, thinking you only had the little portable oscilloscope, but then you panned upward and showed an entire WALL of test equipment. Nice setup! I repaired radios in the Air Force, so this was like old times.

    another great video Buddy. really enjoyed this one. My vote for the most useful video for DIY radio repair would be a radio with no measurable output from the transmitter. Taking the viewer through the tracing of the signals from the oscillators to the driver and final and showing what to look for from your O-scope or RF voltmeter along the way. I feel like most guys understand the concept of following the circuit trace, but don't know how to interpret what they find along the way.

    Excellent, excellent, excellent, video Buddy!!! Oh man, so sorry to hear about our brother's accident. I hope he is able to fully recover to top health soon. Thank you so very much for putting out this series. It is a great refresher course for an old Tube guy like me. Most of the principles are the same but a lack of experience with the solid state technology of today makes this series perfect for me. Looking forward to the next video in the series. Thanks for the overview of the little digital scope. Looks like a nice little scope for doing audio troubleshooting, I like the small size. I think they have a acrylic case available for it as well. The price is very reasonable.
    That little component tester that you also have on your bench is really nice, I got one of those from Banggood a while back and it has come in handy for checking capacitor ESR, etc. For the price you can't beat it.
    Hope all goes well with your brother, prayers that he recovers well. Family comes first.

    Radio Shack used to sell a 9 VDC battery powered speaker for cheap. It had a single transistor preamp (which I think used a 2N3904) and an LM386 amplifier and a volume control/switch. Anyway, attaching a cable to this makes a great audio detector. You can then "hear" the audio rather than watch a waveform. The transistor preamp would help prevent loading of the circuit under test. If you used an emitter-follower or voltage follower op-amp instead, you get even better input impedance. You can also use an old, discarded computer speaker. Audio tracing on-the-cheap.

    I will pray for your brother. Hope he recovers fine. Great series, but that's what we always get from you. On the DSO138, if you hold down SW4 for a few seconds the frequency and voltages are displayed on the screen. They are nice for quick and easy audio work. Looking forward to your next video but understand you have to get some paying work done also! ;-)

    Hi Buddy:
    Sorry to hear about that terrible head-on crash with your brother. I hope everything eventually will turn out OK for him.
    I liked the JYE Tech DSO138 so much, I just bought one with the case. I haven't heard of this unit before. Thanks!
    I get a little squeamish sometimes testing something unknown with my 1054Z or TAS465. But with this little gem, I wouldn't bang my head against the wall if something bad happened to this. A great instrument to use first to verify a safety status before bringing out the "big guns."
    Great video as always!

    Do all CB's use a 10.42 Mhz reference or just that brand and/or model? I put together a DSO 138 about a year and a half ago originally till I could find a scope for 50 - 70 bucks. I haven't given up. Seems like all the scopes I find want 50 - 70 bucks for the shipping. I am interested and could use the meter. I have asked all friends ans family for electronic devices that they are going to throw out. I am getting better at successfully better fixing them. If I can't fix it I desodder everything for parts. Thanks for the videos I have learned alot and I'll keep your brother in my prayers.

      About all phase lock loop radios that I know of uses the 10.240 reference crystal. There are however some older off brands that did not. Shipping on scopes can be expensive. Make sure you reply to the meter giveaway video when posted.

    I like your videos, and please from now on do beyond econocial repair videos. The most evil thing on youtube are people doing things for possible economic gain.

    • @TheRadioShop
      @TheRadioShop  7 лет назад

      Joseph. Thanks for this comment. Honestly, there is no economic gain in making RUclips videos or from free stuff that suppliers sends in for review. Hence why I do not do dedicated videos on items like this scope. I try and add them in a current video. Also why I do not put fancy themes, click bait, or animations in my videos. I like to keep things on a serious note. Channels on YT that do that have very high views. My total views are below 500K. Some have over that on one video. I rather keep things simple and help others to learn and provide cheaper ways of repair their equipment. Thanks for commenting.
