@@heroeus8173 I don't think it a reference to Tifa. i think it's "supposed" to be about Aerith but in retrospect, neither Tifa or Aerith fit the bill as both get him into danger, yet both call tease him in a "silly goose" sort of way. In the end, both will look out and protect him when they can, but over all, they both come up short.
Cloud looks hurt when Aerith tells him that he cannot fall in love with her. This is sad.
Aerith looks more sad. Almost defeated before anything could even begin.

Tifa's gorgeous, caring and badass, plus they've got the childhood friend romance potential going.. But then we meet aerith and goddamn I get tidus/yuna vibes, like they're meant for each other

I can't help but feel like she was using him cause he reminded her of Zack. I definitely got the impression that Tifa was a better match. But everyone interprets the game differently
You will love it. The same romance, at the start she is attracted to him because of a reason but in the end she loves Cloud for who he is more. It is a tragic love story like FFX.
I refuse to accept the death of Aerith once again. We must be able to save her. This was the real storyline.

Army 4Life that’s not what I want (I mean I m not psychopathic but still think that Aerith’s importance and charisma rely on the fact that she dies, if they remove that, they diminish the character somehow), but I’d rather not veil my face or torture myself with false hopes. Historically Aerith does, and there’s no reason for them to change that, obviously they could do it there’s a chance but to my mind the odds are really low and I don’t think that’s a good idea to save her anyway

This Aerith is from the original timeline that died and returned to the planet. She knows everything.

My theory is similar, maybe she didn’t remember the whole thing. But because she can listen to the planet, the lifestream through the flowers somehow trying to tell her what will happen.

There was probably a problem in the future and they are out to fix it, each to its own idea

I came into this game completely mutual on who I thought Cloud should be shipped with (not that it really matters that much), but the gameplay has drastically changed my personal opinion.
I have not played the original (a sin, I know), but my fiance has, so he prompted me to go on this adventure.
At first I was intending on shipping Cloud and Tifa. I kept really waiting for them to start warming up to each other, and the scene where Cloud expresses the promise he made to Tifa was a good chip off the ice block to start. Especially with Jessie's game of rivalry, I was team Tifa all the way. I liked how caring Tifa was when it came to Cloud, I jokingly started calling Tifa "mom" early on because she is so nurturing towards Cloud, kind of like a guiding figure. She even scolds him when he's mean to people! I was looking forward for them to start opening up to each other more and more, and for more romantic hinting, which slowlyyy started to peek through.
But then when Cloud met up with Aerith again in the church, their interaction seemed so natural. Partly because of the Zack thing, I'm sure. I would imagine that would make them both feel at home.
But oh my god, Cloud became a chatterbox (as much as Cloud's introverted self can be anyways), especially compared to before. She cracked that boy open like a WALNUT. He opened up so much, the difference was so evident. I felt like he was being more himself. (ironic because of the Zack thing, but I did really feel like it was Cloud shining through).
And then came the comment Cloud's mother made about an older girl (Tifa is 20, Could is 21, Aerith is 22), and how everyone was calling Aerith and Cloud a couple during the arena fight. And how he looked at her when she came out in that fancy dress and all the fireworks are in the back. The way he opened up to giving her a high five, which although it seems small, that was a huge deal for him with how rigid he was. How he wanted to hear about how she talked to the flowers-despite the fact that he almost was stuck in his own habits and didn't want to hear her explanation-thought about it, turned around, and then said: "Tell me anyways."
I saw all of Tifa's alternate cutscenes, because I wanted to see her progression with Cloud in comparison. My favorite one was the dream one, because Cloud cares so much about comforting Tifa, and he is decisive when he tells her that it's okay to cry. He hugs her so hard because he too feels her hurt, and he wishes he could take that pain from her, he wants to comfort her. But I got more of a "shared loss, and deep sadness/caring" vibe than a romantic vibe from that. And also, Tifa talks about Cloud and Aerith and how "something's up" in both of the alternate scenes.
A combination of all those things I just mentioned started to steer me.
But now. NOW. With this dream scene, when Aerith warns him not to love her, saying it isn't real. (Perhaps to lessen his attachment to her because she knows her fate, or perhaps because of Zack's influence). Cloud steps forward adamantly and says: "Don't I have a say in this?" That is one of the most sure, if not THE most sure Cloud has been about his feelings in the game so far. He's holding his ground and saying: "Don't I have a say in who I choose to love?"
I might change my mind about the ship later, but man, I know for certain I am going to be HEARTBROKEN when Aerith dies.
I'm almost hoping that there will be a way to revive her, maybe by means of it being an alternate timeline compared to the original, or even just by means of an alternate game ending, because I want Cloud and Aerith to work so bad now. 😂
I don't want him to be like a widow going to visit her church in the future all sad or something.
Ah well, both girls are perfect gems, and whoever they decide to ship Cloud with, or if it's no one at all- and whatever ending they choose, I'm sure that the creators know best, and I'll be happy with it.

I just got to the end of this game too, and I am having so much hope in my heart for the game's final ending. I'm excited to see what happens next! There's no telling what's to come at this point!
SquareEnix is making Aerith very lovable.... this whole direction they are taking, (possible alternate timelines) making us think we could save her, it was intentional, i think. They are making us to love her more so that they could rip her away from us.

During all this time they meat 1 more time where he built her flower cart and get emotinal because of death of Angel.But most funny thing she still nevel have opertunity to know during 2 year. In final letter she basicaly say she cant built this relashionship because it seems like he is not interisting (she said in originaly that he probally was ladie guy , andit was not interisting). Zack after loosing his purpose in life decide to make this relashionship his priority realised that basicaly in some way it was little his fault because how he was during 2 years that he never properly persued realshionship makin his SLODIER carer more priority. So he goes in rush with cloud to Midgar where he killed.
He was good warior but bad husband material, chasing diferent ladies and persuing his dreams to be greates SOLDIER. Aerith moved on until 4 year later she feeled he was dead.
And wanted to know how he died.
Thats why Elmira try to read of CLoud she thinks she will dump Aerith like Zack (that was only half-true though). Elmira said about SOLDIER "You boys trade normal life for power".Thats what she talked basicaly about Zack.

If anything, I’d say it’s Aerith who is in denial.
There is nothing wrong with moving on.
Sure, she loved Zack once, but it isn’t wrong to move on since she thought he was dead.
And for Cloud, it isn’t wrong to love Aerith either.
Sure, he cared for Tifa, more than he realized, but there’s nothing wrong with falling in love with someone new.
She's not in denial, so much so that she said that Zack was the first one she ever loved (implies she doesn't love him anymore). And it is known that she feels everything that happens, and she knows that Zack died, because she has been talking to the spirits since she was a child. And she asks Cloud not to fall in love with her because she knows she's going to die (see the visions she has of the future). For those who hope that she stays alive, it doesn't make sense for them to change that in the game, because the whole desire to defeat Sephroth involves this anger of him killing Aerith.
Some commented that it's wrong for her to love someone else, that if Zack were a real man he wouldn't let that happen... BUT YOU DIED, you don't have to want your love to be sad for you, you'll want her to be happy, move on.

I like all ships and I think Zerith is cute, but denying Clerith just because Aerith is Zacks “woman” is so close-minded. Aerith is not anyones. It’s okay to move on after someone passes away. Most people will fall in love with multiple people in their lifetime, and that’s perfectly fine. And like you said, if anything, Zack would be happy to see both Aerith and Cloud genuinely happy. At the end of the day, it’s not about what you, or what I think. It’s about what Aerith thinks, and what Aerith wants. Zack is a part of her past now, and that’s okay. She has a right to move on, and find interest in other people like Cloud. And turns out, Aerith and Cloud are also very compatible together! Now, I don’t wanna be biased so I’ll say this… just like when Aerith dies, its okay and she will be okay if Cloud ever decides to move on. Because if anything, Aerith would want Cloud to be happy. If Cloud is allowed to move on, then so can Aerith.

Its only 8 seconds long but I cannot stop myself from rewatching it again and again. Aerith's facial expressions are animated so goddamn beautifully crafted with detail I can't believe it's not pre-rendered. Especially how her eyes open wider during the "wow" and her face and eyes are too damn precious at the "your eyes" part. I'm already in love.
But Cloud's animations are no slouch either. Every facial expression he has makes his faces and expression appear so sincere in more intimate scenes
I am 32 years old. When I was 12 years old, 20 years ago, I have played ff7 for the first time.
For me, there was NO question at that time, that cloud was deeply in love with aerith.
There was no internet, no crisis core, no Advent children... nothing!
I did not know what would happen to aerith and my heart was Broken.
I have been, I am and I will be shipping Clerith forever.
This remake is sugar for all clerith fans.
For me, Cloud also had deep feelings for Tifa, but as a best friend.
He needs Tifa she is the prove that he has been alive and cloud for a long time before he weint to shinra.
They are perfect best friends and he cares about her.
But with Aerith, this is something so special and magical.
The hurt in his eyes... "I am coming for you".
I also think in this scene this is aerith from the future, trying to talk him out of his feelings, as she knows what will happen.
My only wish before I die would be a kiss between aerith and cloud at the gold saucer date in the next part of the remake.

"so soon", this is just part 1 and it only covers the Midgar parts of the original game, which is only like 10% of the original. If they expand the rest of the game like this first part it will take them all of 2020s to release the full game.

Aerith told Cloud not to fall in love with her to spare him the pain and agony, because she knew what will happen to her eventually.
(Now with the new timeline thingy I am pretty hopeful that she will survive till the end.)
Then there is the main song "Hollow" which is confirmed by master Uematsu himself to be representing Cloud's thoughts and feelings. And this song is almost certainly about Aerith :)

I think, who came to visit Cloud in dream was Aerith from original timeline. You know, because it is lifestream sign. Aerith from Og returned to the planet. Became one with lifestream. It is said in theory, lifestream itself holds time and space, whoever join the lifestream, can came accross past and future. So Aerith here is Aerith in Og and Sepiroth in the Ending is Sephiroth in Og. All both of them already know what happen in the next. And with power of lifestream they went to the past, Aerith here to warn Cloud to not fall in love with her since he will suffer if knowing what will happen next. And Sepiroth from Og came here to change its own fate. Tell lies to team so they beath the orbiter of fate . . . So Sepiroth will have a great chance to becoming God . . . maybe something like that . .
Maybe, since cloud didnt successfully hold aerith's arm in resolution
that doesn't track. Sephiroth is killed at the end of 7 and he failed to become a god. Aeris makes sense because she was there at the end, guiding all the souls of the lifestream. Aeris basically did what Sephiroth never could.
I understand the whole "Aerith wants to prevent suffering" line, but in retrospect it makes no sense. Emotions are necessary for people to act on, and if Aerith is trying to prevent those feelings from being real, she risks Cloud not taking the necessary actions to defeat Sephiroph. Regardless if the feelings of love are real or not, If she's willing to accept what will happen in life to her, then she should accept that Clouds attachment to her, real or not, is what directs him in his life after her death. that she'd try to prevent it is a massive risk, unless Cloud not loving Aerith is no risk at all.
So either she is stating a fact that Cloud cannot fall in love with her and she knows why, or She's trying set things up for Clouds eventual recovery and preventing him from convincing himself of feelings that would conflict with his true self.
@@tabs311 This problem is that Sephiroph is not an actual physical being, but rather "Will manifested into Physical Form through Jenova Cells". Its why the "Sephiroph" clones take the form and shape of Sephiroph as we see in FF7R when Marco turns into him and then Sephiroph leaves and Marco takes his normal form again. Sephiroph is able to manifest into anyone who has Jenova cells, and its the reason why he has a mental link over Cloud and is able to control him to a degree.
After the end of FF7, he became part of the life stream and acted like a cancer to it, causing the "Geo-Stigma" plague to be released. He was able to take a physical form through one of the "remnants" of the clone project injecting himself with Jenova Cells.
in other Words, Sephiroph never died, and so long a single Jenova cell has a chance to infect someone, he will always have a chance to come back.

But just based off playing crisis core it seemed only aerith loved zack and he really cared about her but only as a really good friend but im sure there may have been a possibility that their relationship could have developed into something more serious, eg his last memory was of her, if tseng didn't keep the 89 letters and of course if he didn't die. In the final fantasy 7 dismantled book she even says 'although called my first love that doesn't mean we were partically intimate'. So overall my point is that i think that cloud really did have feelings for aerith

Zack and Aerith were dating in Crisis Core, and in the scene from the original and remake in the playground Aerith calls Zack, "the first man I ever loved". There's also a scene in the original FF7 where you meet Zack's family and say that he had a girlfriend in Midgar and Aerith says she loved him. And they may not have been "intimate" but that's more likely due to her and Zack taking it slow and his job interfering with the relationship which was clear from what happened in Crisis Core.

Also yes that part where in the orignal where you visits zacks village his parents said that he had a girlfriend, but judging by her reaction she didn't know/didn't think that they were in a serious relationship. Homeboy DIED trying to get to Aerith. He was considered a fugitive when he broke free from Hojo's lab. He read Aerith's last letter to him, grabbed Cloud and headed straight to Midgar to see her. Even as you play through his last battle and the army starts overwhelming him his last thoughts are of meeting Aerith. Hell, his second to last thought is of Aerith. Crisis Core is far more canon than books released right after the first game. Hell, the Remake has multiple scenes that show it's part of their timeline (Aerith talking to Cloud about her first one, Zack's battle sequences, Aerith referencing that the sky scared her at the end). Why would she write to him for four years if she didn't love him?
They are making a point in the Remake that she loved him, but y'all are still bringing up Final Fantasy 7 Dismantle, one of the OLDEST books in the history of this series, to define her feelings. It's ridiculous.
I just realized when Aerith says to Cloud "lovers give this to each other when they're reunited" that was a dead giveaway that this Aerith knew of the original timeline. That's what that flower means to her and you can see on her face how glad she was to see Cloud again after all this time. Shes missed him so much since the original timeline and whatever her purpose is in this story, shes just grateful to be able to spend more time with Cloud as she can. No matter how short, no matter how fleeting, right before the inevitable end. And towards that end she wants every moment to last as long as it can. As she says in the last scene, "every moment matters". It's really heartening to see.

I think the reason why she said that not to fall in love with her is because cloud didnt move on until ff7 advent children. The last scne in the og cloud is expecting to meet aerith in the life stream. He thinks about her during advent children. The lines he said when she held a lifeless aerith to sephiroth is for someone who's inlove with that person. U cant describe ur friend's smile come on haha. And of course, the first time they met on the remake. The yellow flower symbolize a reunion between lovers coming from aerith herself. :) after 23 years i held on to this two.. Not disappointed
yeah, he had a hard time moving on from Aerith's death (and Zack's too). When Tifa questioned him if he went to the Sector 5 Church so that he could die of Geostigma, he didn't deny it. He just gave up.
He even told Zack (a little like talking to himself) that being his living legacy is harder than it seems.
Tifa even asked him if they are losing to a memory (i.e; his memory of Aerith). I'm glad he manages to forgive himself at the end of AC.

Also Nomura stated that the feelings between Zack and Aerith were just juvenile and platonic, in "Crisis Core Ultimania". Yeah but Aerith can travel the lifestream she has Cetra blood, so if Maiden isn't non official to remake but the part about Aerith is official to remake, she is doing exactly that in remake part one, Lifestream White Act III Aerith has return to the planet surface on her own free will, to appear in front of Cloud as he remembers her, in Clouds dream strengthen that idea that she is part of the lifestream.
Sephiroth even mocks her by chasing Aerith in the Lifestream in the novel On a way to a Smile written by Nojima "you can't do anything" she is well aware that Sephiroth only exist through Clouds memories, "I will never be a memory" After defeating The Harbinger of Fate both Zack snd Aerith fate change they are boh resurrected, ending the original og narrative to FFVII, giving strong indication that AC/ACC has been erased or reset.
Zack will either get a new game or be apart of remake while Aerith and Cloud play FFVII new game + Reimagined, new timeline being reforged a new by hand of destiny.
Multiple endings, all evolving around the out come Cloud choose's from the player perspective.

@chaoszieg Nope. Zack's backstory was pretty much put into the story literally ten years after the OG FFVII. Then there are novellas written by Nojima which confirm Aeirth loved Cloud. Nomura even stated in CC Ultimania that Zack and Aeriths feelings were just juvenile.

I believe Cloud is the one who suffers the most between the pair. Cloud was asked to not fall in love with Aerith when in fact it was already too late. The reason Aerith told him not to is because people die at some point and she advised that she will be next to die. It is a foreshadowing. Each time a small glimpse of the future is shown or part of his past, Cloud becomes more and more hurt. Especially when he's unstable and can't move on his own. Seriph even told Cloud the future is not yet set. And that he has 7 seconds till the end to do whatever choice he will do. Meaning Cloud still has time to move on before it happens. If I were in love with a person that told me to not to, I would also feel sad

Such a fascinating conversation in the garden, especially with hindsight. I do like the theory that this is actually the alternate timeline Aerith after she returned to the planet, somehow manifesting in this world (probably through the garden's life force). It is tremendous foreshadowing and I am torn between whether I think she should still die in this timeline. I adore her character but her death is so impactful. I would love her to stick around longer but still be killed as an inevitable conclusion to this story. Kind of a Final Destination situation would be interesting, subversive and heart wrenching all at once. You can change fate all you like, but there are certain things that are constant in every universe. VERY interested in seeing where this all goes though, one way or another!

Cloud BEHAVES like Zack, have a very confused memories, but all the behavior and attitude, especially with Aerith is all his true self. Beside, when it comes to Final Fantasy, we all know how and which type of heroin Nomura's always choose. XD. His trademark never change. I can feel Yuna/Tidus, Vincent/Lucrecia, Noct/Luna(under tabata) vibe from these two.
So, no matter which girl you choose, Aerith is always the heroin to the hero. the loves one to Cloud, the Earth for a Sky (Cloud), and Tifa Is badass, second lead as always with Barret as a second man lead. every time I saw Tifa, she remind me of Iris Amicitia from FF 15. I may not like the game very much but its alright. I still prefer Stella than Luna.
If this game was make as a "no Choices" like other FF, we definitely can predict where the story goes. its About Cloud and Aerith.

Biggs and Jessie dying (I know Biggs is alive now) and basically every scene with Aerith and Cloud which makes you want to cry. She has to make it this time I mean they've defeated destiny at the end of the game, they're no longer shackled to fate. Its an unknown Journey and he definitely does love her, it is real, it always was. He never had Zacks memories he merely stole his identity as a SOLDIER he's always been Cloud.
So aerith is clearly aware of the previous games events...
Yeah, there's a heavy implication that Sephiroth is the one from the previous games come back to the events of the original to redo them and that Aerith's spirit has followed him back. As time progresses "past" Aerith is becoming more and more aware of future events, possibly as a result of her future spirit connecting to her past self.

It's completely optional who Cloud is "with". Even in the final scene with Tifa, it's optional whether Cloud responds warmly to her or is cold/more distant. Two optional scenes play out, dependent on how you choose to interact with the ladies in the game. In my story, Cloud's feelings for Tifa are those of a platonic sense while he keeps Aerith, the woman he loves, close in his heart with the hope of one day finding/reuniting with her again in his Promised Land. Not a Tifa fan either.
