    Build type #5: The Budget Build
    This one should definitely be on the list. From the broke teenager to the successful adult who wants more but cant justify the spending 1000s on parts. We've all been there at one point.

      Wheres the 'do it once do it right' people at because honestly reliability and consistency means you drive the car all the time and it performs well and maybe doesnt look half bad either. it takes a long time overall but the impact each mod is more and more noticeable and you can drive it the whole time so people at car shows see your progression too. i admit there is a bit of spending involved for some aspects, dropping $1500 on wilwoods seems like a big investment but its really not in the grand scheme of things.

      The secret to tracking is having gages/ independent ECM monitoring important things like oil pressure. And supporting mods. Most of your engine modifications should be supporting mods

    • @ricky-sanchez

      The secret to tracking is blowing up your engine multiple times and rebuilding. No engine was ever designed to race. Not even race engines. Engines are only designed to move.

      @raghibfarrash2183 3 года назад +2

      I feel like "performance cars" would be a more broad term, cuz there are many categories under that and "track cars" is one of them, there's drag cars and there's rally cars and so on.
      But yes totally agree with your point I think it's a huge category to be mentioned and could probably replace the "never finished category" 😅

    • @raghibfarrash2183
      @raghibfarrash2183 3 года назад

      @@ricky-sanchez I mean true but I think what he meant by "function" in the video is talking about daily driving.
      For example someone who would like to track their car would get the widest wheels because they want more traction and that's going to cause some firment challenges but these people don't really care 🤷‍♂️

    I am definitely a function guy. I can't afford a daily and a toy. So the daily has to be the toy. That means it has to start every time and it has to not leave me stranded on the side of the road. That means I can't go nuts. (My budget won't allow that anyway). So I stick with stuff that won't impact the car's day to day driveability. I won't ever have the fastest or the coolest car on the road, but all the car has to do is make me happy, and it does that well enough.

    • @guzu334
      @guzu334 5 лет назад +37

      Exactly. Sometimes budget kind of pushes you into being a function guy. I bet most of the function guys would like a toy on the side that they can take to the track and go at it all day.
      But also being a function guy can be about actually caring about your car, and maintaning for example a classic e30 look rather than slamming it to the ground with some extreme camber. The function guy in my opinion is
      the more responsible and mature side of the car scene 😂

    The ricer - Tries to be show guy but doesn't have enough money and/or expertise or taste to do so. The ricer pretends not to notice when they crash and ignore any damage.
    The stock builder - Spends ridiculous amounts of money to get their car exactly as it came from factory in the hopes that one day it will be worth a fortune. The stock builder will never crash and in fact rarely drives their car.
    Track bro - Track is life. Their car is actually fast as fuck and is somewhat cool but you don't tell them that. Track bro cries when he crashes as it's usually at high speed and will cost them a lot of money.
    Drift bro - Their car is a shitheap with just about every single panel misshapen or hanging off. You almost feel like their old '90s Nissan or Toyota has wasted potential and could've been really nice. Drift bro laughs when he crashes. He probably does it on purpose the psychopath.

    One big type of build is the full restoration build. Typically done with 70's, 80's and 90's cars these are probably the most extensive and longest to do. They literally torn the car apart to rebuild it, buy new or restore everything on it.Most of them try to keep the car looking like it came stock back when new with basic outside mods like oem spoilers or bodykits and nice wheels, but other stuff like suspension, brakes, engine, interiors and audio equipment they may go wild to improve what was provided by oem. I remember those builds being very common in forums and I literally spent hours reading threads dozens pages long looking at all the process of restoring it. For me these are the builds that get the most respect because they take time, patience, lots of planification and people from all levels of car knowledge can do it since the online communities are big and help a lot.

    I'm in the first category of the function build and I agree with all parts except for the suspension. 2 way or 3 way adjustable coils will allow you to dial in the ride exactly how you want it. The 1 way adjustable coils are for people who want somewhat better handling but don't care one bit about ride quality and don't mind bouncing around all over the place everywhere they go.

And yea i drive them daily and ocassionally do autocross or w/e. Prolly going to go a bit more into the 3000gt with 90mm TB intake manifold, 272in/ex cams, port and polished heads. And when the bottom end starts to go 11:1 pistons and forged con-rods. Dont think im going for another car after the 3000gt. Gotta start investing and that sort of thing lol.

I have a folder of 36k of parts and not including the base price of the car or man hours. Paid 10k and I love it. It’s done. Only thing now if I want is to put a smaller pulley on. Making 245hp as of now. It’s a blast! I learned my lesson. I built a 87 5.0 up that cost 13k for engine and transmission alone. Also built up a GTI VR6. Spent way too much money to end up with “ok” cars. Never again. Buying built from now on.

    I think the biggest problem with bought not built folks is that the majority of them don't appreciate the amount of work the built not bought community put into their cars (let alone know about their own car).
    It's offensive when you worked for months or years to build your dream car, and some know nothing shows up and steals the show and has absolutely no idea about their own vehicle and modifications 9 times out of 10.
    They're usually money flashers, the type that buy expensive things for the sake of it, not the appreciation of them. That's why people get behind built not bought. They know the work it took to get there, they educated themselves and ground to get the work done. They have more functional knowledge and more value than someone who just pays someone else to do it for them.
    Let me be clear, know your limits and strong points, you don't have to go around engineering your own shocks and chassis dynamics. But at the very least understand your own car and why the builder made those decisions... or at least own up to it when you have no fucking clue what you're talking about. "I just bought it cause it looked dope" will save you a lot of hate.

    When I got my mustang, it already had a few basic mods on it, bullitt wheels, long tube headers and full exaust, cold air intake, plenum & throttle body, different pulleys, different taillights & headlights, a tune, stage 3 clutch & alluminum flywheel. So it was nice getting a car that already had some things done to it. I do all my own work and I don't claim to have "built" the car myself but, I definitely saved a lot of money by buying a car with some things already done to it.
