  • Katherine Anderson, (York University, Canada), The Modern Ocean: Oceans and History between the World Wars (13/03/2024)
How did scholars from different disciplines (geographers, historians, economists, oceanographers...) think about the oceans in the first half of the 20th century? What was modern and what was traditional about doing science at sea? How did literature and art reflect and contribute to these perceptions?
Katey Anderson is a historian of science and the author of many important books and articles, among them Predicting the Weather: Victorians and the Science of Meteorology (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2005) and the co-edited book (together with Helen Rozwadowski), Soundings and Crossings: Doing Science at Sea 1800-1970 (Sagamore Beach, MA: Science History Publications, 2016).
