The 2023 Tour Concert of The Wisconsin Wind Orchestra is designed to appeal to a wide variety of the concert-going public: young and old, experienced listeners and novices, long-time classical music lovers and as well as newcomers to the genre. Entitled "Play of the Imagination," the program will encourage listeners to engage the imagination through expressive, evocative music and highly descriptive titles. For example, selected movements from Carl Orff's massive Carmina Burana is subtitled: Secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magical images." London Sketches by Francis Casadesus evokes several scenes of daily life in the British capital, from a visit to Trafalgar Square to children playing in Hyde Park. Jeux d'Enfant by the great French composer, George Bizet, is a delightful set of miniatures that describe quite effectively various energetic children's games. The concert concludes with a moving homage to the American West in the form of a set of variations on the ever-popular cowboy song, "The Streets of Laredo" written by conductor Harper.
