VIOFO usually has a sale taking place on their company website (viofo.com) and it looks like they have one going on right now. VIOFO will also discount their prices around the annual Black Friday sales period including Cyber Monday on their website and on Amazon.
I will get complaints when I use a CPL filter to capture nighttime footage saying it makes it too dark. I use a CPL during my daytime tests. My car's windshield angle results in a lot of reflections during daytime driving. A CPL reduces the amount of light presented to the image sensor. You could adjust the image sensor EV value and increase it to compensate.
First off, if your A329 has a firmware version before v1.0_241029, make sure you update the A329 to that firmware release which is now available on the VIOFO website. www.viofo.com/pages/firmware I'm running a test firmware of v1.0_241126 which does a slightly better job with HDR enabled than the v1.0_241029 firmware. Second, make sure you have the HDR (High Dynamic Range) firmware setting enabled. You can also use the "Auto HDR" feature to enable HDR for nighttime hours only when it's best to have HDR enabled. The "Auto HDR" feature allows you to specify a time to enable HDR and a time to disable HDR. The each camera has its own HDR setting. If you want to use the "Auto HDR" feature, you must enable it for the front camera first before you will be able to define the start and end times.
@RetroCarGuy530 I only see the 1029 version on the website, and I do have hdr on, and it looks way worse than in your video. Also, mine won't connect to the app, maybe is faulty. I contacted their customer support, but they are not being very helpful
The v1.0_241029 firmware version is the latest publicly available A329 firmware version. The v1.0_241126 is a test/beta firmware that will be released or a later version will be made available as the next update for the A329. The app connectivity issue might be related to a few things, make sure your phone supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi connections [default for the A329]. You can set the A329 to 2.4 GHz and try that as well. Also make sure you don't have a VPN (Virtual Private Network) enabled on your phone when you're trying to connect to the A329 since that will block the connectivity required to the A329.
FYI, the firmware version in the A329 at the time I created the footage in this RUclips video was v1.0_240913. Firmware versions after that version are better than the version I used in this video.
@RetroCarGuy530 I do have a vpn. Didn't think about that, I will try tomorrow. Thanks a lot, you have been more helpful and faster than their customer support
When you enable high dynamic range recording (HDR), the frame rate is automatically reduced from 60fps to 30fps. There's currently no dash camera that can record at 4K 60fps with HDR enabled.
60 fps is usually better during bright/daylight hours and it results in smoother footage (less motion blur). HDR on reduces the FPS value to 30 fps (current HDR technology), but the HDR technology allows for better capture of areas with higher exposure (bright lights or areas brightly lit by headlights). Nighttime footage with HDR on gives the dash camera the best chance to capture license plates.
Great comparison thank you !
Glad you found it useful!
Nice work.
Do the viofo cameras ever go on sale? I want one but maybe I should wait till black friday

i thought having the CPL was better but you dont have it on with this video test?
any thoughts on having the CPL?

I bought the a329 but my video looks granny and can't make out any license plate or any detail

Why would you test A329 at 4K 30fps instead 4K 60fps. At 4K 30fps, it's just another A229 Pro.
When you enable high dynamic range recording (HDR), the frame rate is automatically reduced from 60fps to 30fps. There's currently no dash camera that can record at 4K 60fps with HDR enabled.
@@RetroCarGuy530could you help to understand in which situation better to keep HDR on with 30fps vs HDR is off but 60fps?
60 fps is usually better during bright/daylight hours and it results in smoother footage (less motion blur). HDR on reduces the FPS value to 30 fps (current HDR technology), but the HDR technology allows for better capture of areas with higher exposure (bright lights or areas brightly lit by headlights). Thinkware u3000 really why no hdr did u want more power to parking mode or a limit on the chip Thinkware used more likely
If they had HDR they would be top of the market
