Joy at the beginning of this video, i felt heart sick at hearing about Jerry's weakness and no energy and seeing how upset you were about it but then you started talking about Jerry not wanting to sell your house. I could see the "joy" returning to you once you decided to go with the flow. Sometimes we think downsizing is best for us but in the end it truely is not. Especially since you have an extraordinary sewing set up at this house. We have to take pleasure were we fund it at our age. Im actually happy Jerry changed his mind about selling. Now, since this new revolution has happened, go out and find yourself an employee who can pitch in and help you with some of the things you have going on. There's no shame in getting household help should you need it. Take care and God bless you and Jerry!

Totally disagree. With Jerry’s health declining and or being unstable She seriously needs to downsize otherwise she’s going to be left with a lot on her plate. Either that or she needs to start getting rid of a lot of stuff now fortunately, they have enough finances where she would hire somebody to help her move and sell that house when that time comes.

My sentiments match just about what everyone else has said about Jerry and what a strong woman you are. I've missed you so much and I am so happy to see you in your sewing/quilting room. I love hearing about your life and I don't come here just for sewing or quilting, I come here for you. I do sew, quilt, crochet, knit, and everything about sewing garments. You are an amazing woman and I come to learn from you and if you throw in some life experiences, I will listen to you. You make me laugh and love your enthusiasm. Stay grounded and listen to your heart. I pray for Jerry and you as well.

I have lots of catching up to do. I have been MIA with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Get my PET scan results next week. Being anemic can make you feel terrible too. I sure hope Jerry gets to feeling better. I am going to have to watch lots of videos to catch up on what is going on & where you are moving to. I am sure he will miss the lake & the beautiful nature around there. Be where you are the happiest & do not think of what if. At our age we have less numbers left than more. Enjoy each day. Don't spend more time fixing up another place. We downsized & this place is so much smaller and less storage. We both feel cramped living so close to our neighbors and I sure miss my craft room. Prayers for healing.

Agreed…I was saddened that Jerry could leave what he gave his earnest strength in building a ‘forever’ home for you and him. Kinda like when you give away (not happening) a quilt you worked sEw hard on with focused dedication and lively energy. Jerry has now a home for you two as his initial life plan is and a ‘Bonus’ home to venture to when y’ll get a traveling get up and go urge. The Bonus Home will provide you and Philly a place to co verge upon and go SeW wild and Jerry will take a moment of happiness in hearing you and Philly laughing together. You are both most fortunate to have a lifestyle that affords this lifestyle plan🧵🪡🧵🛠️🧰🗝️💜

That happened to me. About 6 yrs ago, when my youngest grad high school and started college, we decided to move to a nearby town where my eldest son lived and we did most of our shopping, eating out, and church. I found my "dream" house. We started moving. My husband and son moved all of their stuff. Our plan was to move out of our house that we had lived in for over 20 years and then sell it. I started moving my stuff very slowly. (That should have been a sign). I was so homesick for the house that I raised my kids in. I would wake my husband up and say, "I am going home. I'll see you in the morning." In the middle of the night, in my pajamas, I would drive 25 minutes to sleep in my bed, in my real house. Within a few months, we had put the "new" home on the market and it sold within a week for full asking price. I just knew that it was divine intervention because we only lost out on closing costs. Now, it has been enough time and I think that I am ready to actually move. Give yourselves some time to get used to the idea of moving or keep both places for a while.

I know what you mean about the joy of finally sewing again! I was displaced from my home after a flood in 2016. I finally bought a small travel machine and was sewing on a dining room table where we were staying while my home was being rebuilt. Finally being able to sew was what I needed to feel whole again. So no matter what’s going on, God will handle it, just sew!

    Dear sweet, wonderful Joy,
You don't know me and I doubt that we will ever meet (unless you want to take your RV on an adventure to Michigan), but I just want to share with you that I felt so sad when you said you had bought a different house.
I know that Jerry's heart is here, and even though there are upsides to the new location, I just couldn't wrap my head around the thought of it being "home" for Jerry and you.
Seeing you come to life when you started sewing again in your house, and hanging your rulers back up on your wall just warmed my heart.
Yes, yes, yes I totally understand that you have to do what is right for you, and some strangers opinions mean next to nothing. I will always pray for you and Jerry and wish comfort and joy for both of you.

Hi Joy. Great to see you. I feel bad for you both -- so much work packing and moving and then packing and moving back. ... but I do understand why he loves it so much and doesn't want to sell it. Too bad you moved the longarm already. Please Don't push yourselves too hard. I know you said Jerry lost weight --- you look like you've lost weight too. Please rest and take care of yourselves. I think you both need a vacation. A real, honest to goodness - no working - just relaxing vacation!

So good to hear Jerry is doing better. I’m so sorry for what all you have been dealing with and Jerry’s health and mental status. Sending prayers for both of you. Sometimes we just need rest and time to ourselves to refuel our bodies and our minds. So I’m glad you have some time to just sew. That nightgown you’re making looks like a beautiful summer dress. (Just Saying). I had my sleep apnea done just over a week ago. I should get results back this coming week. I inherited loud snoring from my father who died at an early age of heart problems. Do you remember that I won the Palmer & Plesch book from you? Well sit down because you’re not going to believe this. I entered a contest from Janine sews up in Canada and yep you guessed it. She drew my name. I won a $100.00 gift card to Rick Rack Textiles in Canada. I was blown away! I’ve seen some pretty fabric but our credit card was hacked. So we had to cut up the old credit cards and wait 10 days for new cards. So all you out there be sure to enter those contests. I got an awesome book from Joy that helps so much with fitting and has great tips and I got $100.00 to spend on fabric.

I have been following your videos and moves for some time, and I am your age and over the past 7 years have down-sized steadily about 3 times. No one can really tell you what to do, but you need help with this move, and please get Jerry a good doctor. He has a pacemaker and BP problems, so needs to be near a good facility and good doctors. Moves are hard, but don’t give up on it-down-sizing is painful but necessary, but take it slower. Keep an embroidery machine, sewing machine and your longarm and possibly a lightweight one, and don’t keep all your patterns, duplicates, fabric, etc. You will be happier, I guarantee, but don’t try to do this move quickly. You both are stressed, and Jerry’s health is paramount as is yours-my 2 cents worth! Wish I was with you two and could help out! God Bless and keep you both!

Joy, my mom cut out each pattern piece, stacked them in order, then checked the view she was sewing to organize her needed pieces. Consequently, that’s what I did for 40 years. Now, I just cut out what’s needed when I do buy a big 4 pattern, which is seldom. I really prefer Indie patterns. Oh, and then we would carefully iron each piece and fold it just right, put in order and slip back into envelope!

I am so happy to see you ,and your not moving 😮,and that is okay 😊 just think about all that cleaning out you have done plus you can actually see what you really need to keep and what you can’t live with out. I think that’s called a simple, and relaxing life as we get older, and in the long run it’s easier to let it go by getting rid of it ,or giving it to your children and see them enjoy it before we are gone, and if they don’t want it that’s ok ,as much as it may hurt the feelings we have to remember they have made their home the way they want it and we have to respect that. I personally would want them to say no if it’s something they didn’t want so that it can be loved by someone that will enjoy it. I am a huge believer in passing down from generation to generation but I can’t make my kids like something that they really don’t want ,but what I do thou is make sure they hear the stories of how I received it and from whom. Joy I love your story telling ,I like it when you go off track 😂you crack me up with your replacement of names. Enjoy that nice cleaned out sewing room. ❤❤❤❤❤ soooooo happy to see you are back .

Oh Joy, as a retired occupational therapist I understand why you feel so happy when you are sewing. I wish I was still practicing, I'd love to have met you and written a paper with you on the emotional and physical health benefits that are brought to you through sewing and how having it taken from you while you moved affected your mood and wellbeing. It's how people feel when they suffer illness or disability and can no longer express themselves and their identity, the therapist has to find a way of showing the client how to find that happiness again and I think it would have been incredibly useful to have written a paper with you. Maybe there's an OT out there who would like to do it. God bless.

I’ve got the Joy Joy Joy Joy down-in my heart! It is soooo good to see you! I have missed you so much! I’m so sorry that you and Jerry have been sick. Thrilled to hear that he stopped the meds that were causing him to be confused. I have to tell you I’m not sad that he doesn’t want to sell your home, what a wonderful place you have. You all worked hard for what you have and if he wants to keep it because it is home, then I agree with you, if he wants to keep it, so be it. Joy please keep sewing and taking care of your sweet Jerry. I miss you all on shine too. Have a wonderful weekend!

Oh Joy. I feel for you and Jerry. First of all I pray for his health- nothing is more important. As for the house- so stressful. I downsized 9 months ago. It was SO hard. We had to sell our bigger home to be able to buy a smaller one but we grieved dreadfully for our old home. I think if I was in your position I would have changed my mind too. As it is we have made our new house a lovely home and we are settled and glad we did it. Things will work out in the end I am sure. In the meantime take care of yourself. 😊 Lynne

I love hearing your life stories, not just sewing. I can understand Jerry not wanting to move. My mother was a seamstress too and my father was an engineer. And my mom always knew how to fit a garment. I love the stripes. Funny too she taught me the basics, but I took tailoring in high school to really learn the craft.

I am so pleased to hear you have decided to keep your beautiful property and house. Good to hear Jerry is getting better. With the medication and maybe subconsciously questioning the sale behind him, hopefully he has turned the corner and can enjoy many more years of fishing and bulldozing at your house. With the other house near family, you seem to have settled on the perfect compromise. ❤

Hi, Joy! Glad you got Jerry off those pills! What a terrible thing to go through - and from a cardiologist who didn't chart the meds no less. Thankfully, you still have some things you can sew. That nightgown might make a cool summer dress since you don't have enough fabric for the sleeves. Praying for you guys as you decide to move/don't move.

Hello Joy, I’m so glad to hear from you. I’ve missed your videos. I’m glad you are over the flu. My husband and I are recovering from Covid and it was a lot worst the second time around, this time we actually got anti virals “Paxlovid” because we are seniors. In Australia you can’t even mention “Ivermectin “. Anyway the anti virals worked but like all flu they linger. I got sick on the 2 nd of January and today is the 14th we have been quarantined since my husband was tested positive two days after me. (we don’t know how we caught it as we don’t go anywhere, and over Christmas we only saw our family and none of them are sick) the only thing I can think of is the delivery guy made me sign an electronic screen and it was really sticky, and I thought I should wash my hands, but can’t remember if I did or not? Anyway too late now but it’s something to be aware of. Don’t let your guards down. I’m sorry Jerry hasn’t been well, but hopefully he is on the road to recovery. I’m sorry that you have to put everything back but maybe it will force you to downsize a little bit. (I know it’s hard to do) my husband is constantly on my back to get rid of my stuff, you do accumulate a lot of stuff over 47 years of marriage. You and Jerry were very brave when you made the decision to move, it’s a lot of work especially when you are sick.I pray 🙏 that you are both getting stronger and better each day. I look forward to seeing you more often.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💖💖💖💖💖🌹🌹🌹

Oh Joy so good to see you. Glad your feeling better. Glad Jerry is doing better. Glad your getting to sew a little something, good for our emotions. Your right God will lead you both in right directions pertaining to the 2 homes. I need to get back to a little project sewing Jelly bean shape hand warmers after chemo treatments. Made some for daughter and friend that just had lung caner surgery and an older friend that's just cold in the winter. Want to get a packet together for the cancer house in our town they sew things in their gifts bags for cancer patients and they have never heard of them.

God bless you, Patricia. I just attended the Visitation for the wonderful lady I babysat for as a teen who was more like an older sister to me back then. She was ever the classic, classy lady and didn't publicize that her cancer battle wasn't going well. How I wish I'd sewn a little quilt that she could have used during treatment. I do hope that some kind sewist like you made those hand warmers. Now that I know about them I'll see about getting some made in her memory, plus her family requested support for a local crisis-care nursery she supported. I'm all about sewing some baby quilts and layette items for them in her name. One thing I've done for a family member in a nursery home (oops, Nursing Home...the nursery home thing is an old family chuckle from when my son was a little guy and angry at me---he retorted 'I don't wuv you, when you are old I going to make you go to a bad nursery home!' lol!) You might want to also look into the 'Quilted Hug Project', they have a free pdf that is a neat project to make. It might be lovely for your lung cancer person and older friend too.
